The Model 1854 is launching with two versions, both chambered in the mighty 44 Magnum. First is a utilitarian stainless-steel bead-finish rifle with M-LOK®-capable polymer furniture. The second is an extremely limited-edition rifle with a gloss PVD black finish and high-grade satin walnut stocks.

Smith & Wesson has arisen from their slumber here in the new year, 2024.
They have issued their official challenge to Marlin/Ruger and Henry Rifles for their share of the lever action industry.
First thing I did was call my Father and say, _"Dad! Smith & Wesson now has a lever-action rifle!"_ His reply, _"No they don't."_ In your typical fatherly demeanor. That is to say calm, cool, collected and thoroughly unimpressed. You know, the type of Dad that will only believe it when they see it.
Nevertheless, I am looking forward to another reputable manufacturer of lever-action rifles. They have always been my favorite since I saw my first episode of *"The Rifleman"* starring Chuck Connors.

Lol my pops just got one of these. Sent him some info on it awhile back. Went to the range/store the other day and they just got one in and he got it on the spot.
And remember, always carry a revolver chambered in the same caliber as your lever action!

I've patiently been waiting for one to show up at my local shop. Grabbed it yesterday the moment I saw it and shot it today for the first time. 100 yards from a bench, and I was 91/100 at an 8" steel target with open sights. I'm a novice rifleman, so I was pretty pleased with those results.
Now I gotta git a horse !! Or mount a scabbard on my KTM !!

I heard a S&W rep call the 1854 44 mag a “throw back to our heritage”. I’m a 10mm guy since about 1990. Super excited with the S&W M&P 10… bought two. Both jammed regularly, (failure to feed), The magazine fell out the bottom while shooting in both, and on one the supplied plastic optics plate cracked, the screws sheered, and my RMR flew backwards over my head. I sent them back to S&W twice. Failure to feeds continued after receiving them back each time. Called a third time and was transferred to a girl who sounded quite young. She interrupted me, talked over me, and told me that my request that S&W exchange my pistols wasn’t going to happen since the issues were fixable. And she said that I “should shoot better quality ammo”. I guess higher quality than the Federal, Fiocci, Mag Tech, Sig, and Hornady that I had written them about failing, and that I spent a fortune on testing their guns. I filed a BBB complaint but through mediation had no confidence in S&W’s offer to “service my guns”, (for the third time). I wonder if engineering a defective product and then having an arrogant and entitled sounding young lady dismiss your victims is also a throwback to S&W’s heritage; or perhaps rather, they are turning over in their graves.

I have owned S&W's for years and have always respected the brand. Have never owned a bad S&W. Being a wheel gun guy, I must say that my S&W 500 Performance Center is probably the most exciting revolver I've ever had the pleasure of shooting. I'm also a huge lever rifle fan, have owned several over the years and I'm very interested in the 1854. However, I'm also very interested in the new Bond Arms lever, yet to hit the market, which also looks really awesome. I'm going to wait for a minute or two, read reviews and hopefully have the opportunity to shoot both before I make a decision. Can't wait too long though. I'm damned near 80 years old!

This rifle looks great - I love everything about it: forged stainless steel barrel and receiver instead of nickel plated alloy steel; polymer stock instead of wood; ghost ring receiver sight instead of notched barrel sight; threaded barrel; good mag capacity; subtle M-LOK slots in a good location; classic style instead of some zombie-slaying abomination. Smith and Wesson really hit the nail on the head with this rifle! I hope that .44 Magnum is the first chambering for the 1854- not the only chambering. I want to buy a matching pair of them in .44 Magnum and .357 Magnum. This rifle is a perfect companion for the 629. Let's see one to compliment the 686 too!

There should be a "Try before you Buy" option.. I own several S&W firearms, never owned a Lever Action Rifle before tho.

I think Dutch from RDR2 might want a limited edition version of this level action rifle has walnut finishing feel even if costs $3499USD in 2024AD compared to regular one in black polymer with silver stainless steel that costs $1279.

I'm sure they're planning on it but .44 mag is a good starting point. .44 mag rifles will probably help them sell more .44 mag revolvers. Hopefully they get rid of the Hillary hole.

With Henry and Ruger both pumping out exceptionally high quality lever actions, S&W is going to really need to step up its quality control game. The past 5 years have been completely unacceptable, and something as finicky as a lever gun needs to be made with love and care.

Ever see a Marlin 336 30/30?
To be fair, a pistol grip stock was usually the "deluxe" version of a Winchester lever gun. Cowboys didn't have the need for anything thar fancy.

Why does it feel like they did this just because Ruger bought Marlin? Like, it's almost as if they're doing this just to compete with Ruger, who's always been one of their biggest competitors. They didn't care about the lever action market before, but Ruger gets in on it? S&W's gotta jump on it too. Funny.

Looks like S&W is intruding on Henry's territory. I guess Henry started it when they came out with revolvers. It looks pretty nice but I already have two Henrys in .44 plus no-one matches Henry's customer service.

If they made it look like a Winchester or what not, people would bitch about not being able to use optics and such, so I think they went in the right direction.
I hope this rifle is built better than the 629. I have seen 3 of the 629's that went kaboom. Factory ammo not hand loads. Hope this rifle is better than that. I love Smith and Wesson, but 44 magnum doesn't seem to play well with yall.

9mm, 10mm, 45 acp, 45 colt, 454 Casull and especially 357m/38 special please in a good lever, not a Tombstone 9mm style, more traditional.
I love the cheaper pistol rounds in carbines but extremely limited/non existent in availability bolt action, lever or straight pull action carbines that can take 9mm, 10mm and 45acp.
Semi Automatic are banned here in Australia(not fully banned, just have to be a professional shooter)

It's just a Marlin 1895G with a smaller tubular magazine and a shorter non-octagon barrel. If it's a 45-70 I'll bet it kicks like a mule!

Well, what do you expect? People like mounting optics and such, can't do that without gunsmithing on a top eject and such and Marlins/Henry's look alike anyways. Want something different, then buy an old lever action Winchester 🤷.

Instead of retooling a bunch of machinery and designing a firearm in a completely different category imagine if you guys put that into QC for firearms you already make. Really glad to see a 15th manufacturer making lever guns when they can't even handle sending out their own $1000+ revolvers with the sights properly installed
It's not their fault, Smith finally realized they can't compete with Glock or SIG. So they resort to emulating Kel Tec and Heritage now. No demand outside the USA and the entire M&P line does not have one since first-world military contract.
@great_deception as someone in the industry they compete just fine. Sig keeps having p320 issues. The m&p line sells decent and the m&p10 is one of the more popular 10mm handguns on the market. But hard to tell customers Smith wheel guns are solid when we've had multiple come in the last year with crooked front sights, missing extractors etc.
@@TheMikeshannonFFL here, we actually have good luck with S&W revolvers, with good QC and minimal complaints. It's everything else they make that comes into the store NIB with awful QC/finish/assy issues and stupid parts breakages. The M&P rifle line is subpar at best. Many examples of rust especially on Shield products. Our best sellers are Glock and SIG by far.
