      Got a Marlin Trapper S/S .44 mag June 29th. online, found a few, most were out of stock, the one I got was out the door priced lower priced than some and about the same as other's listed prices were. Gritr Sports in Texas.
      Saw the SBL version for less at a few places, a little more at others. It was easier to find as well. (it's been available longer).
      Saw the 1895 45-70 Trapper at the same place I got mine last year, grabagun, for 500 bucks less! In stock. (less than I paid for the 1894 .44 mag too!) The SBL in stock as well, both are available at a lot of places.

      But the manual says not to use +P or +P+. That's a non starter if I'm using for deer. Also it as issues cycling 44spl if you want to use inside as a home defense rifle. Why they made the action so weak as to not handle +P has me scratching my head. Big fail.

    Comparing 2 totally different guns. A 45-70 vs a 44mag.? Throwing a large rifle caliber usually requires a heavier, longer frame. Should have been compared the the Marlin 1894 SBL.

    • @clutchcargo1239
      @clutchcargo1239 4 місяці тому +2

      I agree. I compared the two and bought the 1894 SBL. The 1854 isn't as attractive to me. I also bought 1894 C in 44 and 357. I already had the RM 1895 SBL. To me, the Rugers are all really nice guns. The 1854 with plain polymer stocks just doesn't turn my crank, but I imagine it's an OK shooter.

    Hard to find a "gun review" where anyone has anything critical to say about a big gun company. Everything is apparently just great about this rifle.

    I bought both guns and the marlin is the better gun hands down. I didn't even get to shoot my s&w and it already had issues so i sent it back to them and it was returned with the same issues,the gun had rust on it and was filthy from when they shot it plus the burr marks on the tube end. My marlin on the other hand has been nothing but great and they will continue to get my business

    S&w got a tall order to throw henery and marlin off the top 2 spots in the lever action relm. Very tall order. Personally id buy the Marlin dark 336 30/30 or 1895 45/70 and not look bak.

    The new Ruger made Marlins are made to unload through the loading gate. Just push it down it come right out. No more wiggling or trying to finagle them out. It’s super easy. I can’t take credit for it. I’ll post the video link to were I saw the new feature. I have one and it works.

    I handled both the new Ruger Marlins 1894, 1895, and the S&W 1854. I like the Marlins over the S&W. I like the quality finish, smooth feel, and the looks of the Marlins better. If you really want a Marlin, they aren't that hard to find. In my experience, they are also relatively comparable in price. Choosing between the two manufacturers was easy for me. The all weather 44 1854, or the 44 1894 SBL. I held the 1854 first, the 1894 second. I bought the 1894 for $100 more... Worth it!. Love the gray laminate stocks/SS combination. Classy all weather look. Super smooth action and a decent all-around trigger... Thanks, Ruger.

      Any suggestion where to find Marlin at or under MSRP (30-30 19" model). Anybody has it in stock is asking around $1400 or above.

    • @clutchcargo1239
      @clutchcargo1239 7 днів тому +1

      @arsalanuljamil6840 Interestingly enough, the 30-30 is one I haven't seen yet. I'm not sure why. That and the 1894 SBL in 357. My only suggestion is if you see the one you want, don't hesitate to buy it. That might be why they are rare. They don't make it to the rack. I suppose that drives the price up. I guess also I may have been lucky earl on. I'd buy the 30-30 for nostalgic reasons. My first lever gun was my second rifle ever, which was a 1949 Marlin chambered in .32 Special. It was stolen by my ex back in 83 along with my first rifle and shotgun... A Marlin 60 and Remington 870... that's what I get for serving overseas... Oh, well. Anyway, my Dad used once fired 30-30 brass to make loads for that gun. I've never seen another like it. I think I never got over losing those guns... Lol! Good luck!!

      @@clutchcargo1239 Thank you for the reply. I'm trying to decide between this or the new S&W (in 44 mag) as my first lever action. In general reviews for both are quite positive. I prefer the 30-30 caliber of Marlin but the walnut finish of S&W...... choices 😊

    • @clutchcargo1239
      @clutchcargo1239 7 днів тому +1

      @arsalanuljamil6840 I think you will be happy with whatever you choose. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. The S&W 1854 with walnut stocks would be an amazing choice. The one I handled was polymer. I prefer the pretty wood. The metal finish was also cericoated flat black. I like the shiny blue finish or Stainless steel better, but I think they will all shoot about the same.

    A friend told me that Smith is using Henry’s design with small mods.
    Supposedly this has to do with Henry designing his lever action while working for Smith before starting his own company.
    Anyone know the particulars ?

  • @richardkev3077
    @richardkev3077 4 місяці тому +1

    I’ve had two Marlins. Both were fine guns, but I never did get consistent accuracy from either when shooting cast bullets. My Winchester had no problems. At the time I was told to blame the “micro-groove” rifling. I don’t know if it was true or not. Sold both.
    Fast forward a few decades. My .44 Winchester broke. I haven’t yet found a replacement part. So I bought a Henry. I’d have considered a Marlin since it’s now being made by Ruger, and apparently made without the “micro-groove” rifling, but it wasn’t available in .44.
    So far, the Henry works fine. It handles 300-grain bullets-my Winchester never did-and it as been stone reliable.
    Marlin? It’s at least 30% more $$, so I won’t be trading in my Henry.

      Check the twist rate.
      Many lever guns had the wrong twist rates. A 44mag throwing 250gr needs around a 20. I remember years ago the only twist that was correct was Winchester. Henery's were using a twist for a 45/70.
      Way to slow, 38 or something. Not good.
      FYI, use a balitic app to check.

      Better than all the rest, frankly. Japan knows how to craft firearms. People confuse features with quality, if they don't like a top eject they will say it's inferior when that's got nothing to do with design, form, fit, and function.
      No idea why the host of this video gushed all over this S&W. Other reviews haven't been as over the top. S&W seemed to have rushed it to the game and there's final assembly issues leading to loose screws and other things that lack attention to detail. The usual S&W stuff that's been going on for YEARS now, which Ruger (producing new Marlins) would not accept. And let's not mention S&W customer service problems.

      I personally prefer a traditional blued/wood lever gun, but I also like S/S levers with laminated stocks. And I also like many, but not all, of the tactical levers. But I definitely wouldn't want my only lever gun(s) to be tactical style.
