Brilliant stuff!!! MORE of this. Track tours on the race broadcast each weekend from this view?? Love watching how quick the hands are making the steering corrections.
Boa noite !!!!!! Abraço do Brasil.....
If I could only build a time machine and go back to when I was a kid and tell my younger self to persuade my parents to get me into racing... C'mon Doritos! Make it happen! Make that time machine a reality!
SP : "You're on cam, guys !!!" Crew Member : "You really gonna see something with that thing ?" SP : "I don't know..." SB : " 'Cuz if it falls, it'll be a pain in the *ss !!!" This is why i love racedrivers...
From this angle the indycar looks like a giant go-kart. and I don't mean that in a bad way. Power delivery is quick, it accelerates like a rat up a drainpipe and you're always working the wheel. This is the sort of stuff F1 should be aiming for, not some dumbed down eco-friendly nonsense. And I'm saying that as an F1 fan.
Karun Chanduk, Indian racing driver, have stated that F1 should look back to the simplicity of the 90s F1 era after taking some of the iconic F1 cars from that era for a spin. With the introduction of the new power units, it doesn't help to make F1 even more complex. Being complex machines, this gives an advantage to teams who can throw the most money at it, leaving lower tier F1 teams in the dust. But not Indycar. It is much simpler, much cheaper, and still pretty fast. For this reason, we saw 11 different winners around 18 races in the 2014 season.
TheOz91 Yeah but you see, nothing can really be done about this. F1 has always been about utilizing the latest and greatest in automotive engineering; a process which furthers the advancement of our everyday drivers. Indycar doesnt operate under the same philosophy.
yeagemk So true, the problem in F1 isn't the engines, it's elsewhere. WEC has never been more interesting ever since the hybrid engines regulations. The whole difference is how these are written.
LatIngenium I think the thing with WEC is there's a lot more freedom for development and innovation, especially in the engine department. Manufacturers aren't locked to a certain engine size, power output or drivetrain like F1 is. The Audi R18 sounds incredible as a hybrid V6, and the Toyota is epic as well. F1's regulations are poorly written in terms of the engine and the result we get is the flatulent note that today's engines make.
240 mph on the front straight of the Indy 500 before turning into turn one. Now just imagine they add more HP, or didn't limit what these engines can actually produce. 240 mph is with quite a bit of downforce as well on the car.
Not sure what that dial is ... differential settings? Either way, bad place for the dial, it would be far easier to manage using a finger dial on the back side with a LED value on the front side. If he had any type of tire failure (puncture, suspension) while he was one handing the wheel it could be the difference between a "save" and a "serious crash".
Throttle as in fuel map or as in actual pedal mapping (Drive-by-wire)? But either way, why would he adjust throttle map from corner to corner? Are you sure it's not differential as that would make sense on a corner by corner basis?
I don't think so, that's lower left (I saw him adjust that a couple times, not too often). I think any "electronic" brake bias would violate class rules/regulations -- they're typically mechanical.
Rob Ainscough its a mix control...controls how much fuel goes to the engine www.thestar.com/sports/2013/07/12/honda_indy_toronto_inside_an_indycar_cockpit.html
eric w It's actually the throttle mapping control. Adjusts the sensitivity of how hard/soft the drive-by-wire throttle reacts when he hits the throttle. The more the car oversteers, the more he dials it towards a less aggressive response.
Did anyone else notice that his gloves changed from red to white? When he put them on they were red and then when he started his first lap they were white. Strange.
Did you watch the whole vid? theres a difference between "coasting through corners" and modulating throttle in the center. All you have to do is watch his hands, understeer oversteer really dont happen much if your'e not pushing it. Not sure there is not a rule about cameras mounted on helmets, many sanctioning bodies have rules against it at a formal event. Doesnt apply during testing. Although, Tommy Milner posted his from during the Rolex24. Easier for a tin top car to get away with and keep it on the DL especially at night like his was. Awesome vid though.!
***** yes is a Lotus Camel with Twin Turbo Honda engine .... V6 1.5cc 15000 RPM ...... is a beutiful car .... beutiful sound .... the DW12 sound like a Lotus .... the different are engine cubic centimeter .... DW12 are 2.3cc , Lotus are 15cc.... the cars has a twin turbo engine
+Themayseffect no, they are not, completely normal racing on normal track. Ovals are too fast and unsuitable for open wheel cars like this one, not road courses.
Reminds me of the glorious sound of the 80s F1 cars
Which is pathetic
Boa noite.
É realmente fantástico.
Só saudades né.
Abraço do Brasil.....
Would you prefer the f1 v6 hybrid one?@@fargeeks
Raced karts at Sears Point. But this sure beats that experience. Simon was smoking!
To think this footage was from 10 years ago.
One of the greatest ONBOARDS I have ever seen! Thanks for this upload and I love reading your magazine
Is he adjusting the fuel mix ith the right hand and the break balance with the left one?
Amazing!!! these engines are starting to come back!!!
Thank you RACER! Simon really manhandles this beast. So fast and brilliant.
i love the sound, the traction control located in your right foot. LOL!
wish F1 had a sound like this.
Thank you RACER! Wonderful stuff from Pagenaud... really enjoyable.
This, more of this!
Awesome mate...
See what it looks and feels like to be an modern IndyCar driver.
Oh Hell yes!
Best onboard I've ever seen by a long shot. It's fantastic !!!
Wow!! 2:31 nice sound and quick hands :)
That was the best helmet cam video quality I've seen. Please get somemore, race weekend stuff would be great!!!!
Brilliant stuff!!! MORE of this. Track tours on the race broadcast each weekend from this view?? Love watching how quick the hands are making the steering corrections.
Fantastic Video !!! more videos like this !!! bay from Argentina
He is now Champion ! 2016 !
Now THAT'S how I like to wake up in the morning!
Brilliant video!
Great camera setting. You can feel how the driver tries better and better every lap.
Guy's a pro, handling that much oversteer.
Epic video. This is why i subscribed. Please do some more onboards from other series. But this just sublime.
same v6 turbo sound in 80's no doubt about it
More of this please
Boa noite !!!!!!

Abraço do Brasil.....
Very nice footage. I would watch a full gp of that :)
F1 2020 Codemasters graphic ....
Loved it. If the speed could be imposed on the screen, truly spectacular!
Great footage, and some nice driving, one of my fav track (unfortunately only from video games ;). Driver need to tweak TC, fuel map or break bias?
Most likely brake bias.
No traction control to tweak.
Yeah, I am fortunate to live next to both Sonoma and Mazda raceway, very big tracks!
Certified Intergalactic.
pretty exciting
Jesus!! you got yourselfs a new suscriber. I hope you post more videos just like this one. Just make them longer.
Incredible.
I like this point of view. thanks
And he’s now an Indy 500 champion.
Just noticed the little "cheat sheet" map of the track to the right of the steering wheel.
These Indy cars look so much cleaner and nicer bodywork than the new F1 cars, i like both and can't wait for the new seasons to start.
So much old tech in those indie cars...
The bravery is real.
That's sound ... that's sound !!!
Are these cars running with the rumored increase in horsepower?
Great View
Just wooow!
If I could only build a time machine and go back to when I was a kid and tell my younger self to persuade my parents to get me into racing...
C'mon Doritos! Make it happen! Make that time machine a reality!
This is the way racing games need to be made, camera shake and the head movement.
Wow that is amazing.. I even was getting some adrenaline from watching that. I wish I could become a racer one day
What a Sound
Amazing! Just look at that acceleration! Now just imagine how fast it would be like in a F1 car.
Love this track
3:54 and 5:44 Simon presses a red button on the top left side of the steering wheel with his left thumb. Is that the push to pass button?
My guess is traction control.
memberHD We don't have traction control!
gahloot thats clears that up then. He must be dialing in his transfibulator
Brake balance perhaps.
*****
Thanks!
great video! thx for the upload!
This is the real in car camera!
Gloves changed color magically.
Started with red gloves when putting them on in the pitlane, turned in to white gloves in the car......
Amazing!
Good to see Sonoma in green :)

Some of the coolest people on earth with the best job W47CH3R
They should put cams like this in the transmition, it will be great :D
It´s a really nice video in first person.
F1 should look like this !
Sears point when the grass is green looks so much better than when the grass is dead in the summer.
Any idea what that red dial on the bottom right of his wheel is changing?
+BollocksUtwat Probably fuel mix. The higher the number, the more fuel is consumed for more power.
Very good
GREAT!

Exactly. F1 is too sophisticated IMHO.

now i cant wait this weekend!
Im not proud to say this. But this year i think this is Indy Car they look better and sound so much better then F1
Super cool!
What's that car's top speed aproximately? Just wondering.
218-220 mph? not entirely sure....i know they hit at least 218 tho
At indy they get up to 233 on the strait away
240 mph on the front straight of the Indy 500 before turning into turn one. Now just imagine they add more HP, or didn't limit what these engines can actually produce. 240 mph is with quite a bit of downforce as well on the car.
gahloot And 240 mph is with oval boost pressure, only 550-600 horsepower. Think what the speed would be with road course boost (750 horsepower).
AWESOME!
That must be fun to drive
Espetacular, The Frog!

A green Sonoma! Gooooooooood!
how many power? hp?
750hp
that was awesome
Nice!
a little tip burping helps with get more power :) you are really good!
It's so weird to see green grass at Sonoma. I'm probably just too used to playing it on Forza 4.
Did anyone else notice that his gloves changed from red to white? When he put them on they were red and then when he started his first lap they were white. Strange.
Probably for comfort
Sounds like the v12 F1 cars!
these cars sound good but have you ever heard a v12 f1 car in person? because it sounds way better than this.
This is what they mean when say say, sense of speed!
circuit???
Sonoma Raceway, Sonoma, California
;)
MMmmmmm Yes more of this.
My Dream...
This the engine they should have put in the New Honda NSX!!!
Am I the only one who noticed red gloves when he got into the car.
White gloves driving it?
Ultra violent
And imagine that in an F1 car, each corner would be taken anywhere from 10-30mph faster
DW12-2014 = 750 hp
F1-2014 = 650 hp
Rafael Marinho Formula 1 downforce settings allow for faster cornering. Also:
DW12 = 714kg
F14 T = 691kg
Rafael Marinho
Noob.
Comparing F1 to Indy is comparing Apples to Oranges ya dingus.
Dane Gibson It's not though. They're both formula cars; open wheel, open cockpit single seaters.
Pffft, coasting through the corners! - Great video but hardly an 'attack' of the circuit.
It's obviously low grip, that's why he's not so aggressive, the car is sliding around.
Exactly. This is setup testing. If one wants to see "circuits attacked," then show us this camera during final qualifying.
Did you watch the whole vid? theres a difference between "coasting through corners" and modulating throttle in the center. All you have to do is watch his hands, understeer oversteer really dont happen much if your'e not pushing it.

definitely the indycar this year is better, compared to the 2014 f1 season
Sounds better than the new F1 cars and manged more laps than they do in an 8 hour day
yeah but thats right up close in the car. chances are the f1 car sounds a bit softer but i kinda like it
='0)…im so baked….this is AWESOME!!!! AAAWWEEESOOMEEE!!
Wow!,
Waou !!!
er ah - footage looks accelerated - fast as hell but is that necessary ?
er ah - yeah no they didn't speed it up this cars just faster than you think
sound like honda turbo V6 1.5cc of 1986 .... yellow car ...camel sponsor ....
Danilo Sanfilippo camel lotus? 1987-1988 were the only 2 turbo camel lotus honda
*****
yes is a Lotus Camel with Twin Turbo Honda engine .... V6 1.5cc 15000 RPM ...... is a beutiful car .... beutiful sound .... the DW12 sound like a Lotus .... the different are engine cubic centimeter .... DW12 are 2.3cc , Lotus are 15cc.... the cars has a twin turbo engine
They need to tear Sonoma up and start over again. To many elevation changes and to many corners. Cars, bikes, none of them ever get up to top speed.
тряска-то на самом деле жуткая. Почему-то в сим-рейсингах ее нет
sounds better than f1 and it's faster
Its not faster, its a few seconds slower OK
they say:p
more noise than f1 this year
These cars are way too fast for that track! I see why there are so many crashes.
+Themayseffect lol...too fast? It is not lawn mower race.
urmo345 can you read? I said too fast for the track.
+Themayseffect no, they are not, completely normal racing on normal track. Ovals are too fast and unsuitable for open wheel cars like this one, not road courses.
