No, this CANNOT POSSIBLY be a case of dumbness. The woman KNEW that the girl would die during the time of her absence. And she didn't even ask neighbours or family to take care of the little girl.
This was intentional. Seems she combined the murder with a vacay. Maybe she simply found this the easiest way to get rid of the child and possibly get away with it.

They did not charge him with assault with a deadly weapon as he never assaulted anyone. He is being charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon which under SC legal code and copy and pasted "is when a person uses a deadly weapon during a robbery -or- when they pretend to use a deadly weapon to commit a robbery.
For example, if a person presents a toy gun to rob a convenience store, or any other object that the store clerk believed to be a deadly weapon, that would qualify as an armed robbery.
Armed robbery in South Carolina state courts is punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to 30 years in prison. Parole cannot be granted until at least 7 years have been served.

@@26th_Primarch Yeah, Nintendo apparently wanted the NES Zapper to be some sort of futuristic ray gun as opposed to the Colt Single-Action Army revolver that the Japanese Famicom players got due to them not wanting to promote gun violence through their products.
Speaking of which, you can actually get an offbrand version of the Famicom’s Zapper that’s made using the original molds through some Canadian retailer as the person who owned said retailer back in the 80s and 90s got permission from Nintendo to resell the original design as a third-party accessory and due to it being made before the law that requires toy firearms to have a large plastic orange cap on the end of the barrel got passed by Congress, it got grandfathered in to only require a thin orange painted ring on the end of the barrel.
Unfortunately the build quality of the plastic used in these third-party versions isn’t too great compared to the original and it doesn’t have the weights inside unlike the official Zappers (though it does have the slots for them), but you can easily take apart an NES Zapper and transfer the weights over to it since Nintendo used the same weights for both Zapper designs.

It's still one of the worst/infamous crimes here in Brownsville, Texas. The parents' names are John Allen Rubio and Angela Camacho. There is a book titled The Long Shadow of Small Ghosts that elaborates on all the details.
John believed the oldest, Julissa Quesada, 3 years old, was possessed by the ghost of his grandma, and allegedly saw her rip tape off the wall to try to get the middle child to stick his finger in an outlet. She would also speak in her voice. It is an extremely sad story. The disconnect it took to leave her 16 month old child home alone is not human. How could you go on a vacation, enjoy yourself, relax, all the while knowing your baby was hungry, thirsty, crying and all alone. All day. And all night. The only way they can be done is a total disconnect from your own humanity. That person has left the building.

No it isn't that's just a dare. It's called chicken because whoever gives up is "the chicken" lol. The game is that you get as close to doing something predetermined as possible with the intent of being the last one to stop. If neither party stops then the thing is done but the object of the game is just to get as close to doing the thing as possible. I do agree with you that a child Could Never understand the danger of this and, therefore, could not be a consenting party in a game of chicken though
