New Main St RR Crossing, Haverstraw NY (2/25/23)

This video was at the New Main St RR Crossing in Haverstraw NY along the CSX River line. On Thursday February 23rd, 2023 (two days before this video was filmed) a truck got stuck on this crossing. The crossing platform lifts too high causing the trucks trailer to flat out. This is a common problem were crossing platforms lift too high and should be made more gradual. The driver of the truck was lucky enough to get out before CSX I157 plowed through the truck and completely destroyed it. In the process the Conrail signal on the right was knocked down. CSX brought the signal mast and gate mech from Columbia Ave and was put up here. Some of the lights may have been put back together, or they brought some from Columbia Ave. It is really nice seeing Safetran 8-inch lights here still! The other signal is also newer and probably replaced another Conrail/NYC signal. This crossing also has no bells! New York does not require bells and many crossings in NY are like that. It sounded weird compared to NJ crossings. There is also an old train station to the left of the crossing that is now used as a lawyer's office. it is nice to see that it has not been knocked down. There is also a caboose on display! I showed that at the crossing tour here. I am glad there are still 8-inch lights on the right! Here are some videos showing the truck getting hit by the train:

Yes it is, I like it. I’m glad to see a signal from Dumont put up here with safetran 8-inch lights.

There isn’t a bell on either signal. Several crossings around this one don’t have bells either because the state of New York doesn’t require them.

Yeah, it is a shame when stuff like that happens. I am really surprised, but happy to see that the 8 inch lights survived!
