Norsca is the one bastion of freedom standing strong against the imperialist ambitions of the Ordertide. Only the true sons of the North know that leading Norsca to it's rightful place as the leader of the free world is the real purpose of the game! ;) Seriously, playing Norsca felt like my first game as the Empire in Warhammer 1, everybody wants a piece of your territory!

As a chaos player, I was a little sad at the small amount of love shown to Chaos. Then Khorne showed up in Total War 3 and I realized they were just saving the best till last.
I mean you mock the high elves but give credit to Imirk, the only cool High Elf because he said “the donut is gay, I’m out” and went to go wrestle dragons instead which is just a way fucking cooler thing to do.
On the downside, he's the most pompous of them all. He probably left the donut because he thought he was that much better than everybody else. Which is kinda true, to be fair.
I actually enjoy Bretonnia conceptually as it's effectively zealous crusader knights in a completely bizarre grimdark fantasy realm. I also like the Empire as just random dudes fighting against the massive tides of chaos & vampires. Think it adds flavor to have sort of blander human factions to contrast the world around them.

The empire is actually the brief window in the german HRE when pike and shot was coming in and the old sorta jank medievil warfare was dying, bretonia represents france during the medevil era.

Wood Elves are underrated, considering they have the best archer unit in the game, incredibly strong infantry (Wildwood Ranger and the Wardancers, specially) and insane monsters. :)
They used to be complete trash, now they're... decent to play. The scatter settlement idea is lorefriendly, but it's also kinda tricky to keep all the areas protected with the meager income.

Their campaign used to be one of the worst, but now it's very unique and super fun if you like building tall (not a lot of that going on in WHTW). Keeping their distant strongholds secure with limited funds is kind of what makes them fun in the first place; way more fun than just painting the map one color IMO.
You forgot about the biggest meme of the vampire counts. Free skeleton upkeep. Just wander the map with about 10 armies each lead by a legendary lord and made of nothing but heroes and skeletons.

Bretonnia is based upon the early medieval period (10th-11th century) while the empire is not even medieval anymore, but proper renaissance (15th-16th century). There is about as much time between those two periods as there is between the Renaissance and the now.
Not necessarily. I wouldn’t say the empire is “proper renaissance”, more like early renaissance as they still use more high medievalish units. I also wouldn’t necessarily put Bretonnia THAT early, they’re more like high medieval tbh.
All of these races are lucky the bloons tower defense don't exist in the same universe as them. Why you may ask? Cyber Quincy would wipe them all out because nothing gets past his bow.

Funny thing about Empire, if you get lucky in your run and have the Warhammer version of Italy and Venice still alive, you can be secure on the southern boarders until the mass spawning of Chaos horde burns them down to the ground, thus making your expansion south almost as mandatory as keeping the north intact. But you can still burn the Wood Elves if they piss you off long enough with little problem to your diplomatic influence.

Cannons, organ guns, flamethrowers, torpedoes, blasting charges, helicopter bombers and an unbreakable shield wall of beard people. What more can a man ask for.
Love the vid, but Empire is based on post European renaissance (hence the guns and colorful uniforms), not Medieval Europe. The Empire and Brettonnia are literally based in 2 totally different time periods, which is why I love the dynamic

It's based on the HRE and received a german flavored color of paint, which makes it only surface-level similar to Germany (language) and much closer to the HRE in everything else. edit: also there are other countries in Europe speaking german, so technically having german as the language doesn't really limit it to portraying on country. The HRE meanwhile covered all these countries to some extend.

Norsca’s campaign is actually pretty decent on lower difficulties but they are very poorly scaled for the higher difficulties.
