His ability to spot good, decent people is what makes him special. You get the feeling very quickly this is an everyday family man, this is not even close to a danger to society, who on earth has not driven 35 in a 25... So he creates a teaching moment, impacts people, shows mercy and life goes on. I wish this judge an extremely long and healthy life.

Ya, 35 in a 25 is pretty common, and unless it’s in a close residential neighborhood, it’s not much of a danger. It’s more dangerous to impede traffic than to just go with the flow as the man did.

I would give my parents a C- or a D+. It took me years to overcome my negative upbringing. My parents were good people, but they were injured people. Thank God, they were not criminals or alcoholics. My youngest sister worked as a counselor on our state's prison. Those guys have some true horror stories of bad parenting.

It's a cute and intuitive concept, but there's actually a ton of research out there that shows how unreliable child testimony can be for a variety of reasons. Interviewing them is a complicated process that takes a lot of technique and experience. You need to ensure that they understand the question and can contextualize it in the situation of the crime. Capacity is a very real concerns in younger kids. Other things like interviewer demeanor, the words used, and the phrasing and type of language can be very nuanced in order to elicit useful (and accurate) information. This judge was clearly going to dismiss the case regardless of what the kid said.

      It's literally a 40% increase. That's the same as going 84 in a 60 mph zone.
35 might not seem fast, but it's about the RELATIVE speed increase over what the road is designed for. If you're barreling down the road at nearly one and half times as fast as you're supposed to for that area then you're driving unsafe, no matter the speed.

I got a ticket for speed then a week later I got laid off from work. I went to court not to fight the ticket (I was in fact speeding) but to ask the court to reduce the fine or allow me to perform community service.
I explained to the court that I didn't realize I was going that fast but I was speeding, I was the one responsible for going to fast and I had actually borrowed money to pay the fine.
The judge asked the cop how I behaved after being stopped and the cop said I had a good attitude. He then asked the cop if he felt there was any reason not to excuse the ticket. The cop agreed the judge excused the ticket. No fine, no community service and the ticket was removed from my driving record.
I was really surprised and I asked the cop later why he agreed to excuse the ticket. He said he was on the fence about writing it and only issued the ticket because I was so young (I was 20 at the time).
I think so long as you admit to doing something wrong and you are polite with the cop the cop will usually let you off the hook.

Wisdom like this comes from years and years of witnessing and experiencing the best and worst of humanity and developing a sincere appreciation for the basic intimate human moment...that judge is truly a village elder as much as he is a civil authority. The mark he leaves on families and children as well leaves an impression on them that fosters an idea of community.....and the young folks who have positive interactions will be left with an impression that goodness...love and the ability to teach as opposed to dictate can come from those in high places and that they too can someday be a wise, noble and kind human being.

The world needs more of this kindness, compassion and integrity. Honesty and love, bless everyone. This judge looks at everyone and sees them, not just like a number. I pray him many more years, to be with those he loves, he has definitely lead a humble, loving and kind life. He keeps paying it forward even in retirement, through his cancer treatment.

This is one of my favorite videos from this channel. I just love how Judge Caprio puts parents who come into court with their kids at ease by allowing the kid(s) to come up and play the role of the judge.
