      @@cheshire_skatkat9093 the thing is that there's no right or wrong here. You can throw a kick both ways and make it work. That's why I hate clips as this one. They claim to be absolute while not even telling you half the info you'd need to know. The entire format is just about showing off rather than about teaching a lesson.

  • @shawnvaughn91
    @shawnvaughn91 7 місяців тому

    You turn your hip through your opponent so that when you snap you're making contact. For me this is the easiest way to explain it. Like here you can see that his hips are lined up with the center of the bag before he snaps. This helps with spatial awareness and physical awareness as far as the positioning of your body in relation to your opponent. It's not exactly the same, but that is kind of the policy that I'm used to when it comes to hooks. You bend right before you make contact and then you aim through your opponent. The positioning of your shoulder is very important in regards to how much power you can put through and how you can avoid hurting yourself. Much like the hip and the round house.

    Thank you so much for the vid, I come from karate, and I've switched to kickboxing not too long ago. the coach at my gym doesn't explain a lot, and in karate we snap kick all the time, like the 2nd example you've shown. deploy the leg first, and then snap to make contact. Ive been doing that for so long i never questioned it, and I kept seeing that my opponents wouldn't be too hurt by my kicks and I always had my foot so swollen and rly hurt, to the point I had to take breaks because I couldnt kick or move around anymore. Such simple advice but lifesaving for someone who always had a bad habit and never second guessed it😊

    In kickboxing i was taught to fully pivot my heel almost 180 the way you're doing it, but when I was training in thailand recently they told me to focus on developing hip flexibility and get the hip over without completing pivoting the heel, and that i would generate more power that way. It does seem that's how a lot of thais traditionally throw roundhouse kicks. What do you think of this?

    • @MMAShredded
      @MMAShredded  7 місяців тому

      I agree, it helps to not commit so much on the kick while still generating a lot of power. This tutorial is exaggerated a bit, to teach beginners how to fully turn their hips over. Its just like the hook, we are taught to fully pivot, but rarely do we see guys pivot their lead foot on the hook (watch mike Tyson or canelo on the heavy bag for example)

      You might not be finding the correct balance point. You could try leaning back more and practicing just getting yourself up to the point just before you snap the kick and see if you can't balance there, which is good practice for when your kicks get caught and you're standing on one leg.
      The correct way is to pivot on the foot but it's not the only way to roundhouse. There's a few pros who just angle their foot out, or step out, before rotating.

    i mean, yea youre totally right thats perfect technique for max power, but that doesn't mean that the other 2 'worse' kicks arent still highly effective weapons, the lowest of low effort flop it up roundhouse ends up acting like a a jab - a less invested less telegraphed short to chip away/distract/rangefind, and the more karate style snapping kick have a whole bunch of applications - faintint, speed off the lead leg, harder to catch n sweep, and works better as a counter as your dont need momentum on your side

      Yeah I've been in Jeet kune do in karate all my life and you have to condition the foot otherwise you will break it but if you've been doing all your life and you condition on trees you'll be okay

      But you don't want to start off kicking trees but you can hurt yourself you want to start off kicking the bag and then gradually work your way up to trees

    By snap, do you mean then fully extending the leg and making contact with the foot as well, or retracting the leg after contact?

    In the gym a guy told me to hold up my guard while kicking, because normally i lower my right arm like you.

    Definitely depends on the style, karatecas, kung fu, and taekwondo all snap kicks, but don’t use shin like in Muay Thai, I believe speed is prioritized, one is like a power ful hit one is like a targeted snake bite quick but can be just as devastating

      Nope tkd is snap kick in the roundhouse but karateca is a mix of muay thai and snap

    Wait so doing on tippy toe is correct? I've been trying to stop doing that thinking it was wrong and I'd get leg swiped.
