Juan Croucier plays fingerstyle both live and in the studio. That’s not a small detail, that’s fundamental to playing Ratt correctly. More thump thump thump, less “click click click”. You do keep very solid time, though. Keep rockin’ \m/.

LOL, that might be a *BIT* of hyperbole. It IS frustrating that the “sound” for most 80s metal albums was to keep the bass very compressed (and too polite) and mixed in too low. But remember that these are mostly excellent musicians playing pro-level gear in really good recording studios. Juan had great tone right from the start (I saw RATT three times on the ‘Out of the Cellar’ tour) so *LIVE* his tone was much better than the thin-sounding recordings. But even on record, if you isolate his bass tracks his tone is solid. Their producer, Beau Hill, was just following the herd by keeping the bass mixed low and letting the guitars and vocals stand out.

The low E string is tuned down to D.
