That's a nice trick which I'm also using from time to time. We have access to the VW design data management system but most of the time the inner parts of the lights are protected from downloading because they were developed by other companies , e.g. HELLA, and you have to find and ask the right people to unlock it. And this can take days or weeks. So I just put a texture on it, like you. But UV projecting in ortographic view is something new for me. Looks way better from specific angles. I'm gonna use it in the future, thank you :)
Days or weeks? I work in advertising in Russia and VW is our client. I asked manager to ask VW manager to get models and it was a year ago, so a few weeks ago they sent couples of shity models that are used in built-in web 3d-viewer
I'm working for CAOA Chery on a car model for their website, a 360 video, and they didn't even send me a blueprint or anything, they just hired a photographer to take perspective shots and they sent me, yeah a little tricky to do the headlights but everything went well
That is very unusual, I assume you are connected to the wrong people. Or, I guess, if you can't work in their office and don't have an security approved office either, they will not leak the data. But believe me, if I say the modeling costs 50k or give me the data and it costs 10k, I will get the data xD Maybe you are so cheap they don't even mind you re-modeling all. About the blueprint, I bet they don't have any. This blueprint thing is very uncommon on real cars.
@@DamianMathew I believe they can't give me the files because it's CAOA Cherry Brasil and not global, sad, and what I said about blueprint, it's not necessarily a blueprint, but some photos of the car from the side, front and back, the photos that they send it is very bad and most of the time the car hasn't even been released yet to find images on the internet (maybe this is one of the reasons they don't send me the data)
I wonder what car companies you've been working with as a 3rd party freelancer that they provided you with their accurate car models? I worked on multiple projects for Tesla and they was never able to give me any accurate car models due to obvious reason...
You can check on MOUVAL. You’ll need an approved office or work in their offices. Still it is sometimes possible to receive models even as a normal freelancer, but it depends on your trust factor I guess.
@@DamianMathew wow really creative website man! True it is mostly about trust, but Tesla is a bit different since they dont like marketing themselves at all xD
@@maybenutt4y Yes, it is also interesting you mention Tesla, because i was in close contact with them years ago but we never were able to agree on a project together.
@@DamianMathew It totally makes sense bcoz they dont really do marketing around the world except in China. Believe it or not, but I just wrote VW an email. That’s how all started. I had a good portfolio at the time, since I had an Internship in a big agency where I already worked on projects for VW. So my recommendation, get into an agency with automotive clients. Better to have a bad render for a real project in your portfolio, than a good render of a hobby project you know? It’s all about name dropping and what you have worked on. Hobby portfolio only works if it is really really good i’d say. And in the agency, I’d just start with an internship to get your foot in the door. For that you still will need a good portfolio tho. About education: Atleast for what I do, you can’t really learn these things, I usually just come up with them or see how it is done by professionals in the industry. I doubt any teacher will know how to render a marketing shot of a car 😅 And if, it’s unlikely you’ll find that teacher. So better to just get your self into that group of people doing it daily.
Damian I got a non-textured car model(FBX format) from my client, and it is extremely detail and the file is huge, but even with the perfect model (like you said the glass had the exact thickness and it even got led chips modeled) I still can‘t get the glass and emitsion shader in blender to work...
i Just want to creat realistic ice cream Scopp... 😑😑😑 I Try Too much But i don't get Result... I Tried sculpting I tried Texturing Shading, I done research but don't get any result..
Yes yea, then youll have to stick with what I started out with - just classic shaders. Or you got very detailed. Also you could use snippets of textures, not a full headlight. Fir example LED textures maybe.
If I'm gonna head that way I might just import the car with "image as plane"
Loooooool truuue!!!
I actually like it. A 256x256 texture is better than putting a lot of work to model 5k vertices into my car to make it less optimized
Kind of an Ian Hubert approach ;-) But I like seeing it being put to the test in other fields than Ian's world building techniques. 👌

Exactly! haha, for turning on, you could create an emission map the same way. At least for the daytime-lights that would work well.
