Yes if you do this wrong, you get bad results. Usually people only do this on longer hair and you have to comb/brush all of the hair up to make sure it’s even once you cut it; you’re not supposed to tie your hair into a big floppy mushroom. You’re also supposed to dampen the hair so it is as straight as possible.

I have stopped going to hairdressers because I always get someone like him and have NEVER came out of a salon with what I asked for, layers. I just thought that they were taught differently from when I was younger and just didn’t know or didn’t understand. Cut my own hair now, have done for years and saved a fortune.

How is the unicorn cut different? I may want to try it that way even though I love the result I get by following what the Salon Guy did in this video except I do not have to slide cut after for some reason, the layers naturally just blend. I do have to use thinning shears on back of my hair because it's so thick.

@@annabanana377 unicorn means the ponytail is all the way to the front, right by your forehead. It makes the front layers the shortest, instead of the top of the head.

Almost every stylist I've been to screwed my hair up in one way or another. And it wasn't even a matter of taste, just basic things like poor technique, lack of knowledge or understanding of design principles.
Been to one recently, my dad recommended her. She was in a hurry for some reason and made a careless movement with a clipper, shaving off a pretty big chunk of long hair from my undercut, right on the forehead where it's most visible. Screwing up a hairline I carefully shaved myself and put a lot of effort to make it perfect. I was so frustrated. Every time I put trust in people they break it. Now I have to grow it out for ages and it looks ridiculous.
I've already moved several countries and still can't find myself a good stylist. I don't understand why this keeps happening. At least I have no idea how in the world I manage to get it right even without any education or experience, and they can't. If this repeats once more, I might as well come to believe that luck exists, god forbid. I'm not doing it again, I better keep those money, free time and nerves.

I always end up blending it myself at home so I just decided to start cutting myself and taking an hour or so to even it all out to the best of my ability. Only works because I have wavy hair, though.

You cut too much off the ponytail and you never brush the hair evenly flat and then tie the hair tie.........use a 2nd hair tie.

If you want it shorter in the front instead of back, the ponytail should be in the front like a unicorn. If you want short in the front and back, have 2 ponytails, one in front and one at the top of your head. This does work and this guy did a tutorial on it a year after this one but Brad Mondo's are better. He shows both ways- you can look for "butterfly cut tutorial" and "wolf cut tutorial". Once you get a feel for how the lengths will distribute, you can modify it really easily to get the results you want. Doing it with damp hair is easiest and of course brush it well and make the ponytail as clean and tight as you can. You get all these random long bits if you are sloppy like he was in this video 😅 he didn't want this to work

  • @amg1286
    @amg1286 Рік тому +6

You have to comb the hair really well and have it tight in the ponytail, smoothed out. Half of it was so loose and falling out , more on one side, so of course it comes out uneven or "hideous" , in his words. Works better if wet too. If you use better technique you don't have to do much additional cutting and clean up, just some blending/thinning out of the edges.

Every time I get a cut it looks ok and even nice at one point and I say so and the “artist” keeps snipping away and tweaking and pulling out gadgets and having a blast till I’m fighting back tears and calculating in my head either how I can find someone to salvage this (if they left enough to work with) or how long it will take to look okay again. I’m an agreeable, pleasant person and want them to be happy with their work. So Though I make clear that’s good let’s leave it, short of getting aggressive and “no. Please stop. Really stop! “ I’m going to get a crappy haircut. And I’ve had this experience when I pay $40 and when I pay $400 and everything in between. So being able to do anything at home that is okay is a much better option.
Another fun experience is when I bring a picture of what I want. And that picture is me! Not sone celebrity - it’s a cute cut had and liked. I have nice hair- it’s soft and very full and super healthy and Not at all damaged and not processed at all and shouldn’t be hard to work with. They ALWAYS say they can do it (it’s not complex either, it’s a fairly common haircut) and never ever ever get it right - often not even close and its 100% different from both the picture and the clear instructions I gave. Ah the joy of doing your best to be a clear communicator and trusting they can do what they say and paying well only to be made miserable from incompetent people…
And “it’s just hair” is all well and good but people have jobs and a life and something that zaps your confidence and makes you self conscious and unhappy with your appearance or enslaves you to a daily nightmare of trying to arrange it with products and clips or whatever you must do to feel presentable - that’s a real harm that’s been done. And in fact the shape of the face and head matter in overall attractiveness and can make a significant difference. Looks shouldn’t matter so much but they do - in the world and to us personally. If anyone can find a way to take back control of this they absolutely should. So thanks for this video

What happens if you only cut the tips off of the ponytail? Further out not right up on the hair tie?

He didn't choose a mannequin with long hair. And he didn't even brush the hair smooth. Brad Mondo did it with longer hair and is unbiased.

Not exactly the way you're supposed to do it. Must be pulled tight and then trim off the ends, not that close to the hair tie.

I'm a broke and I have long curly hair. I'm starting to look like a girl, and I think I need to start looking like a guy who can't afford a haircut. 🐴
🤔 I'll probably straighten my hair first so I can get a cleaner cut.
😂 I hope this works because I could save a lot of money

Isnt this similar to the one emo cut tutorial you did ? Where you bring all the hair up to a ponytail and chop ?
