I liked his faints, and change of positions. George was better than what most people give him credit for. But needed to work on his defense, conditioning, also throwing punches when off balance, wasn't a good thing as well.
Foremans power was devastating, Kenny was backing up to counter him and George knocked him good and once George hurt a man he went to destroy them back in them days. His comeback he wasnt so brutal.
I think if they fought after Ali beat Foreman it would've been a different fight. Not saying KN would've won, but it might have been a closer or better fight.
@hbnet309 -Joe had no choice but to go inside against George, he was shorter and so was his reach, not only that but it was the only way he knew how to fight was to blaze away inside, Joes fearlessness is what got him crushed in the 1st fight. Ken on the other hand had no reason to go inside and trade with George, his height and reach were virtually the same as George, plus i think Ken was a bit faster, but Nortons fight was to counter George's punches which he was doing to some degree till he left his head lingering and open and George caught him with a solid shot. Then we know what happens when george connects he keeps connecting unless you can clinch and hold him like Ali did, Norton couldnt keep him off him and Joe didnt bother as he lost his temper and started firing and missing with his timing way off from the effects of Georges bombs.
Young Foreman was so mean and scary looking, and the 40 plus Foreman was so lovable, cracking jokes and selling grills...what happened? Did he quit drinking whiskey at the age 40? lol

Norton was a good defender and could take a punch, but his great weakness was that, once he had his bell rung, he was helpless, defense totally gone. Gold medal in the ‘clueless commentator’ Olympics. “The first round is very even”, as Foreman comes forward like a relentless bulldozer, throwing bombs, while Norton desperately tries to avoid them.
Ken Norton is another fighter Mike Tyson would have avoided... I also think if Tyson had of came out in that 70s era with all those fighters he might not have been the dominant personality we all know of him... There was a hell of a lot more fighters in the 70s than the 80s and 90s !!!
Poor refereeing yet again. Foreman hit Norton on 2 occasions after the ref got in-between them to give Norton a count. On the second occasion he didn't give Norton any count and so he was still in no fit state to defend himself. I don't for one minute think it altered the ultimate outcome of this fight but it's still sloppy standards!!!
Right, Norton was clearly knocked down but the ropes prevented him from hitting the canvas. No excuse for the ref not giving him a count. You would think that the ref in a world championship fight would be at least somewhat competent.
@@phoebus Obviously Norton couldn't win, but he might have cleared his head a little bit. It's accessory to murder for the ref to send a semi-conscious man back out to Foreman.
In hindsight it seems strange that there was never a Foreman-Holmes fight even though they were exactly the same age. It would have been a classic, George trying to walk though a tsunami of nasty jabs to get to his guy, Larry trying to wear him down before he could.
This fight was scheduled once...in 1999. Foreman retired just before Holmes truly hit his stride, and the stars never quite lined up. Sadly, we'll never know who would have won...in the '70's or the '90's.
@@atheistleopard7671 One of the reasons that Ali beat Foreman was the constant left jab. Plus Ali was equal to Foreman in height and reach and far superior to Foreman in speed and boxing skill. If Sugar Ray Leonard had been a heavyweight (a natural heavyweight) with height and reach equal to Foreman, he too would have KO'd Foreman with speed, boxing skill, and smarts.
Unfortunately Larry turned pro to late (mid 1973). Larry started to be a serious contender by 1977 when George was retired, Joe too & Ali starting to slow down a lot. However, based on troubles Shavers gave to Larry, I don't see Larry winning. In his prime years, I don't recall a fight where an opponent got knockdown by Foreman and survived more than 5 rounds after this knockdown. If Foreman managed to knockdown Larry early, he would have capitalized exactly as he did in this fight with Norton. For me Larry was too conventional to beat this version of Foreman who was cutting the ring too well.

One of the biggest mysteries in sport. Foreman brutally beat both the men who gave Ali his toughest fights and yet Ali knock Foreman out. What was also surprising to me was why there was no Ali v Foreman 2.
It's not a mystery at all, just watch the fights and you can see why. Ali gave Foreman a total lesson in boxing. Foreman beat people by overpowering them and knocking them out and no one could do that to Ali. Foreman was very lucky he never fought an Ali of the 60's, the same guy who made Liston look like a clown, and Liston would back Foreman up during their sparing. Norton and Frazier were Ali's counters in more ways than one so it was different with them.
@jacerivera7907 What I’m saying is that Foreman would’ve ko’ed Liston, they both had incredible power in their punches, but Foreman had a granite chin Liston wouldn’t have been able to hurt Foreman.

@@gaa_sonofgod a big difference is Liston was a good boxer and had the best jab in heavyweight history. If he wanted to neutralize George power, he could have done it easily by keeping out of range. Then winning in the late rounds. If Sonny goes with that strategy I think he can win. But if he goes toe to toe, I'd give the advantage to George not because of his punching power (in my opinion Sonny hits harder) but because of his chin. Not meaning Liston chin was weaker but Foreman did prove in many occasions that he had one of the best chin in HW history. This would be the key of the fight in my opinion.

Foreman, una bestia del ring. Uno de los más grandes pegadores (y noqueadores) de todos los tiempos en peso pesado. Junto a Marciano y Tyson. Dicho y hecho. Aprendí mucho en esa inolvidable pelea.

Foreman arguably the best HW of all time. Maybe not the slickest but could still box and had an olympic gold medal and his his strenth power were somethhing of awe and for me it was his heart and ridiculous granite chin which was most remarkable about the guy.
It's crazy to think just how Foreman dealt with Frazier and Norton just before facing Ali. No wonder no one gave Ali a chance lol. Made Ali's win the greatest period!
Foreman had to be the hardest puncher of his time even above Earnie Shavers. it was fortunate that he did not kill anyone of his opponents in the ring.
You can see why Ali never gave Big George a second chance. Ali's strategy was beautiful in the jungle bout, but no way was George going to fall for anything like that again. You can see in this Norton fight how George normally was much headier than he would be seven months later in Kinshasa. He simply let Ali get under his skin. Had he fought Ali in October the way he fought Norton the previous March, that fight might have gone a lot differently. Big George was a much smarter fighter than he is given credit for being by many.
Foreman didn't lose to Ali because he (Foreman) was not smart. He lost because Ali is fast and accurate with his punches and because he (Foreman) absolutely hated getting punched in the face, a problem against Ali because Ali would hit you a lot in the face. Foreman had never been hit in the face as many times as he was versus Ali. It took the heart out of him, getting his face tattooed so repeatedly.
You're daydreaming if you think Ali won't get the same result in the rematch. All you need to do is go watch Foreman / Young fight. At worse that was how Ali rematch would have gone. I think Ali would have taken Foreman out sooner. His ring IQ is on another level.
@@kevtn8with no holding behind the neck and no loose ropes I can tell it would have gone differently. Plus if we talk realistically, Foreman would have fought Ali late 1977. Three months later Ali lost against an unknown LHW... Let's be honest this would have been a beating

@@gotch09 Ali hit Foreman many times before Foreman "got tired." And Foreman "got tired" pretty quickly because he wasn't used to fighting more than 2 or 3 rounds, because that's how little time it took for him to knock opponents out. In other words, his strength (punching power) became his Achilles heel. Ali hit Foreman in every round of the fight, dancing or not dancing.
This was such a great time for boxing expecially the heavy weight division. I think in any other time Norton would've been champ for some time. He matched up will with Ali and had some great fights but was no match for Foreman. Nothing to be ashamed of though.
There was nothing he could do for Norton if Norton wasn't OK. Foreman was not the ring doctor. He walked over to Norton, glared at him, and then raised his arms in victory. Not the appearance of a fighter who is concerned that he hurt the other fighter. Foreman was just upset because Norton hit him in the face a few times. Foreman hated getting hit in the face. That's why he lost to Ali.
Announcer says Foreman's best punch was the left hook.. but really, any punch by George Foreman is a good punch! Right hook, right uppercut, left jab you name it
In my own opinion I think Norton is scared of Foreman's power in this fight, he is constantly retreating backwards like when he fought with heavy punchers like Shavers. Whereas with light but accumulating punchers like Ali, Norton is aggressive in attacking and always moves forward.
Ken Norton was a heck of a fighter. Scoring a win over Muhammad Ali is pretty good. Once Forman got the fists going he was almost unstoppable. That right hand is unbelievable.
Lead right hands is what won it for Ali for sure. Foreman ate them all night and especially at heavyweight where ali was not considered a power puncher it doesn't matter who you are, you'll go down.
It's still comfortable there. What power there is in there. Foreman is said to have hit the punching bag for 12 rounds or punched wood for hours. What a champion. Still approachable today in old age, which is crazy after a career.
The announcer kept saying foreman likes to push...that was against Frasier, because Joe liked to get inside so George would push him away...it was a tactic for Frasier. Norton didn't fight that way.
Both Frazier and Norton were trained by Eddie Futch. The cross guard was ideal for countering boxers like Ali but power hitters like Foreman just blasted through it. It’s instructive that Jimmy Ellis (a lesser boxer than Norton or Frazier) beat Foreman by frustrating and wearing him down.
Norton could effectively complete with boxers( Ali, Holmes and Young for example) but essentially no match with sluggers( Forman, Shavers and Cooney). Nevertheless, l was and still a Norton fan, may he rest in peace, a class act and a true sports gentleman.
I think your analysis is highly biased. You have to consider the context over Norton loss against Shavers and Cooney. After his loss to Larry, Ken admitted himself that he had nothing left for boxing. In other words, his motivation was gone. This is the most dangerous thing for a boxer. He was also starting to age. Let's recall he was 36 in his fight against Holmes back in June 1978. He was 37 against Shavers who was probably in the best year of his career. A 1976 or before Norton would have won easily against Shavers however. Next against Cooney, he was almost 40. Absolutely no conclusion can be taken from this fight. It's like saying 'Marciano knocked out Joe Louis so Joe Louis has problems against swarmers'. This just makes no sense. Not to mention Norton did beat some sluggers back in the days. That night in Venezuela he was just facing one of the heaviest puncher in boxing history.
George is a different human being. As a kid, I remember boxing experts saying if you can’t take a punch, you never learn how to. Foreman was KO’d by Ali, dropped 2-3 times against Lyle, yet in his comeback no one could knock him out or down. Not prime, Holyfield, Morrison. Nobody.
He was KO'd due to fatigue and not because of his durability. He fought conservatively in his later career that's why no one has ever floored him. As for Lyle, he literally is the hardest puncher Foreman faces.
My dad always used to say that Foreman had a "telephone pole jab", because getting hit by it was like getting hit in the face by a telephone pole. He'd actually stun people with his "jab", snap their head back, and then wade on in for the kill.
Its very possible that Tyson could beat Foreman. Tyson with the advantage of speed and superior footwork. Both men could throw devastatingly hard punches.

George had the real killer instinct. The more hurt his opponent got, the meaner George got.
The great Ken Norton struggled with the power punchers because of his lack of distance management. He inevitably would absorb some of the hardest punches from the hardest punchers in history. The amount of uppercuts he would take is something I blame on his training and his trainers.
Cooney almost took his head off.
he couldn’t fight Moving backwards either
No obstante, de 3 peleas, ganó una a Ali y perdió por decisión en las otras dos.

Only guy to fight the three hardest punchers of the era--Foreman, Shavers and Cooney--and they all almost took his head off.
Foreman's def was so good, he used feints, grabs, trying up, shifting his position, just really good. Plus we share the same birthday, lol
I liked his faints, and change of positions. George was better than what most people give him credit for. But needed to work on his defense, conditioning, also throwing punches when off balance, wasn't a good thing as well.
I thought Norton froze that night he is a much more talented fighter than we saw.
He is very talented, but I never thought he had great fight IQ and didn’t respond to damage well.
Getting pummeled tends to do that
Foreman appeared to be more than 7 lbs. heavier than Norton.
He was 12 lb heavier. 212¾ to 224¾.
He also looked like the taller fighter, even accounting for Norton having a more crouched stance.
More like 27lbs
There's no maximum in the Heavyweight class.
The announcer said they were both 6'3" but Foreman looks taller than Norton to me. But Kenny was so muscular.
Young Foreman was so mean and scary looking, and the 40 plus Foreman was so lovable, cracking jokes and selling grills...what happened? Did he quit drinking whiskey at the age 40? lol
He became a new man the night he fought Young and lost. It happened right after this fight. Foreman said it changed him forever. In fact he retired for 10 years before coming back.
Foreman had a near death experience after one fight and became a Christian and his life totally changed.
Kinda the same thing with Iron Mike Tyson too, he's a lovable teddy in his 40s and 50s
Foreman knocked the soul out of Norton. he didn't even know where he was .😂😮.
I don't think he'd have been happy to learn he was in Queersville
Norton was a good defender and could take a punch, but his great weakness was that, once he had his bell rung, he was helpless, defense totally gone. This was the only time that happened in his prime, but he had several fights toward the end of his career (Shavers, LeDoux, possibly Cooney) where the same thing happened
No obstante, de 3 peleas, ganó una a Ali y perdió por decisión muy dividida en las otras dos.

Gold medal in the ‘clueless commentator’ Olympics. “The first round is very even”, as Foreman comes forward like a relentless bulldozer, throwing bombs, while Norton desperately tries to avoid them.
After kayoing Norton, Foreman for some reason thought... Hey, i like that cross gaurd technique. Think ill use it.
He sure did! Not to mention Archie Moore, his old time trainer, also had that cross guard technique
Big George had a very underrated jab
1:14 that first jab from Foreman did it. Ken never recovered. Fierce!
Big George Foreman in his Prime🥊🥊
I regard Big George as Greatest heavyweight of all time
Foreman saw this guy was scared from the beginning of the first bell. He sensed a knockout how he followed him around ring
Yeah. And what was the ref waiting for at the end? It's like he didn't know it was over.
It was dangerous for sure.
Right, Norton was clearly knocked down but the ropes prevented him from hitting the canvas. No excuse for the ref not giving him a count. You would think that the ref in a world championship fight would be at least somewhat competent.
@@brock2k1 If the ref gave him a eight count do you think Norton would have won or would it just have prolonged the fight another 8 seconds?
@@phoebus Obviously Norton couldn't win, but he might have cleared his head a little bit. It's accessory to murder for the ref to send a semi-conscious man back out to Foreman.
Shiii I didn’t know there was such a tank as Foreman. Real Champion for sure.
Sadly, we'll never know who would have won...in the '70's or the '90's.
he retired knowing that quick jab from larry would get him, IMO.
@@nsr60ster85not really the fight in 1999 did not take place because of money. In the contract signed back then, both fighters were guarenteed to receive a check by a date and they never received it
One of the biggest mysteries in sport. Foreman brutally beat both the men who gave Ali his toughest fights and yet Ali knock Foreman out. What was also surprising to me was why there was no Ali v Foreman 2.
Because Ali kicked his ass
rope a dope
It's not a mystery at all, just watch the fights and you can see why. Ali gave Foreman a total lesson in boxing. Foreman beat people by overpowering them and knocking them out and no one could do that to Ali. Foreman was very lucky he never fought an Ali of the 60's, the same guy who made Liston look like a clown, and Liston would back Foreman up during their sparing.
Norton and Frazier were Ali's counters in more ways than one so it was different with them.
ali was way too old to keep fighting for a second fight with foreman; he was already past his prime when he fought foreman
Ali was more clever his technique was better and had great stamina which makes him superior than foreman
As great as Norton was, he didn’t have great fight IQ and was susceptible to being overwhelmed.
Forman is monster legend🔵
Both Foreman and Norton were 6'3" with Foreman 7lbs heavier but when you look at them standing side by side Foreman looked 30 lbs heavier than Norton
@ 5:24 "Norton is in queersville, he doesn't know where he is" lol
Nortons son was a heckuva good linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys.
he won the title again at 45 ,surely that will never be equalled
Foreman just kept moving forward. The guy was a freight train with gloves on.
foreman was always on the offensive, imagine that Liston was the only one to make him back off
He would’ve ko’ed Liston too
@jacerivera7907 What I’m saying is that Foreman would’ve ko’ed Liston, they both had incredible power in their punches, but Foreman had a granite chin Liston wouldn’t have been able to hurt Foreman.
@@gaa_sonofgod I think Foreman was probably a bit stronger than Liston too. But Liston in his prime would've made Foreman work.
@@funkster007 idk bro, I just can’t see Liston taking punches from Foreman, I mean foreman was probably a harder puncher than Mike Tyson look what he did to Joe Frazier. I just can’t see it.
Ali was there that night saying Foreman was a Bad fighter😂.End of the day He made him look like a normal slugger but He was saying that Norton was gonna knock him out.Three legends at one place.Nortons style was a real trouble to Ali but hard hitters were the biggest weakness of Norton.Shavers knocked him out could in 1, Foreman knocked out him cold at 2.Love your videos man!

George goes over to Norton's corner and taunts him as the fight is being stopped. Foreman in beast mode, no mercy.
No, he was waiting to see if the ref had stopped the fight.
The right uppercut from foreman is one devastating punch
All right, it's been said that Joe Louis was a great jabber...Rocky Marciano said this. If you watch George Foreman he is a great jabber, but not only that he threw a terrific right uppercut that he learned from Rocky Marciano. Foreman described Marciano as being relentless!

@@jaymike3302 you're too caught up in what every ref didn't do or suppose to do. If I tell you the fight is over like he told Foreman. I don't need to wave my arms. @@richardmccormick859 Yeah it's not a big deal. Nothing happened.
Foreman, una bestia del ring. Uno de los más grandes pegadores (y noqueadores) de todos los tiempos en peso pesado. Junto a Marciano y Tyson. Dicho y hecho. Aprendí mucho en esa inolvidable pelea.
5:28 "Norton is in Queersville..." Wow, that wouldn't fly now, lol. Foreman was a monster. Ken was a monster himself, former world champion with good boxing skills. He broke Ali's jaw.
Foreman arguably the best HW of all time. Maybe not the slickest but could still box and had an olympic gold medal and his his strenth power were somethhing of awe and for me it was his heart and ridiculous granite chin which was most remarkable about the guy.
George Foreman was (and is) a beast. All those great heavyweights - gone.
@@57highland Ali was just a wonderful dancer. He tap danced around the ring till Foreman got tired. That's all. I don't think he wanted to give Foreman a rematch because he knew Big George had his number.
Foremans jab like a hydraulic ram🥊🥊
i dont think foreman was taunting him i think he was trying to see if he was ok after
There was nothing he could do for Norton if Norton wasn't OK.

The backwash of a Foreman punch would've knocked me out!
Kudos to 2 great warriors but Foreman was just too good for a brave Norton that night.
Taking a body blow from Foreman had to feel absolutely horrible

Big George’s punching power was devastating, he could get an opponent outta there with one shot. Norton really had no chance against Foreman.

Gladiators true Warriors
Good thing Norton had Ali in his corner with all that brilliant Coaching
In my own opinion I think Norton is scared of Foreman's power in this fight, he is constantly retreating backwards like when he fought with heavy punchers like Shavers. Whereas with light but accumulating punchers like Ali, Norton is aggressive in attacking and always moves forward.
George is one of heaviest punchers to ever step in ring! Wow! Nukes!
Ken Norton was a heck of a fighter. Scoring a win over Muhammad Ali is pretty good. Once Forman got the fists going he was almost unstoppable. That right hand is unbelievable.

Ali was telling him to throw the right hand more which could have altered the outcome of this fight for Kenny as each time he threw it landed

Yes, it was
Its exactly what Ali did in Zaire he landed the right-hand lead multiple times and frustrated George.
Lead right hands is what won it for Ali for sure. Foreman ate them all night and especially at heavyweight where ali was not considered a power puncher it doesn't matter who you are, you'll go down.
@@e-musickvance3581it’s what Ali did in Zaire.
It's still comfortable there. What power there is in there. Foreman is said to have hit the punching bag for 12 rounds or punched wood for hours. What a champion. Still approachable today in old age, which is crazy after a career.
The referee needed to stop the fight, Norton was in LaLa land, at least Norton's corner threw in the towel.
In a battle between two power punchers, the most powerful puncher won handily
Norton was afraid of Forman (and most fighters were)....you can see it in his eyes. No confidence he was going to win the Heavyweight title.
The announcer kept saying foreman likes to push...that was against Frasier, because Joe liked to get inside so George would push him away...it was a tactic for Frasier. Norton didn't fight that way.
3:35 So much for the Power of Positive Thinking
Napoleon Hill never had to fight George Foreman.
Great upload thank you. Unfortunately for Norton he had some glass in his jaw which is fatal against big punchers like Foreman and and Clooney
Foreman was a beast, and perhaps the most dangerous hitter to have lived.
Foreman like a male African lion and Norton like a male Bengal tiger...😂😂😅
I am pretty sure a male Bengal Tiger would beat an African Lion....they are quite a bit larger and more agile.
Foreman é força bruta, incrível!
Norton had amazing physique
And we know this.
Jimmy Ellis never fought Foreman. You mean Jimmy Young?
Simply Awesome
Foreman was throwing shots with BAD intentions back then
George is a different human being. As a kid, I remember boxing experts saying if you can’t take a punch, you never learn how to. Foreman was KO’d by Ali, dropped 2-3 times against Lyle, yet in his comeback no one could knock him out or down. Not prime, Holyfield, Morrison. Nobody.
He was as big as a whale during his comeback. That's why no one could knock him out at that point.
He was KO'd due to fatigue and not because of his durability. He fought conservatively in his later career that's why no one has ever floored him. As for Lyle, he literally is the hardest puncher Foreman faces.
@@brendanfrost2475 That’s all true. It also didn’t help that every time Ali did come off the ropes he boxed George’s ears off.
" Ken - ny Nor-Ton " .... Boxing's "greatest paper champion ". Was so happy that George knocked him out.
A destructive and brutal knockout of Norton by George Foreman
My dad always used to say that Foreman had a "telephone pole jab", because getting hit by it was like getting hit in the face by a telephone pole. He'd actually stun people with his "jab", snap their head back, and then wade on in for the kill.
Foreman and Holyfield be my two favourite boxers of all time. Old truck legend!
What was the music the video before pleaseeeee
The announcer's a funny guy. He got excited at the few punches Norton landed in the first round and didn't notice that Foremen was hammering him.
Foreman fights like he learned boxing on UA-cam 😁
I’m only 30 and I just don’t understand how people think Tyson could beat Foreman. I’d bet my life on George over any heavyweight alltime besides Ali.
Its very possible that Tyson could beat Foreman. Tyson with the advantage of speed and superior footwork. Both men could throw devastatingly hard punches.
