this helped so much im a two handed lefty with a purple hammer pearl urethane and my best game was 215. after iwacthed the video, i went bowling and bowled a 267. thank you
I just went to the bowling alley to practice because of this video. I saw that you start the pushaway on the 3rd step and that couldn't have helped me more dude. It sped my ball up by over a mile an hour and I avg. 221 for 5. Fantastic video big dawg!
I actually start with my same foot as ball hand but take a larger second step. I think the target and your line is the biggest thing to stay focused on once I had my form down. I found when I count steps or think of anything other than hitting my target at the angle I want, that I end up "blacking out" at that exact moment and realize I don't remember seeing my target when I threw the ball bc I was thinking about other things. It's crazy how much goes through your mind on the approach...when I only need to let my body do what I taught it and keep my mind on that one spot.
great video sliding at your target is a big factor that determines if you miss in and you can tell by looking at your foot to see if it is pointing at the right direction I also like doing first 2 steps slower helps with the tempo of the push away to backswing creating that delay
this video is huge. Just changed my form a little bit, looks like a mix between you and jesper, just not as flush as the two of yours. gonna keep these in mind when i bowl, and ill see how i do, because id love to go pro at some point, so i gotta make sure im doin it right. thank you big man for the W upload
Thanks for the tips, you mentioned you do something different with your push away when your standing even further left, could you describe what that is or is it covered in another video? Thanks
Hi Ryan, Outstanding video ! especially like the slomo angles at the end. It's clear of your footwork, ball push away ( 3rd step ) , skip 4th step and slide. Now, I've got to practice ! I was pushing the ball out on the 2nd step and didn't feel comfortable.
Any tips on the arm swing? How do you keep your arm so straight during the backswing? Also any tips on the ball placement (keeping wrist locked/cupped) thanks a bunch
Hey Ryan! I'm sure you want to have your own identity in the bowling community, which I don't begrudge you and expect is no easy task given the success of both your parents in the sport, however, I really think you should incorporate your family more heavily, notably your parents. It's great watching you bowl against your dad, but it's even better watching you bowl as a team. You should also feature your mom more in videos, whether she's bowling, coaching, or supporting. She's a legend in her own right and I feel as though the fact that your dad is who he is has a tendency to distract from that fact. Behind the scenes would also be much appreciated, such as more vlog-like content away from the lanes. I was a serious bowler up until about a decade ago, when I decided to give it up. I was obsessed with the sport and looked up to people like your parents. Watching you bowl with your dad reminds me of the time I spent bowling with mine, which in many ways I miss. I wish you good luck and much continued success both on and off the lanes! Best, Aaron
#RyanBarnes, hope that you make it to the PBA tour with your Dad, #ChrisBarnes! And hope I can go bowling again! About to have a TEE procedure done which I am not looking forward to and then will have surgery on my shoulder because I had 3 minor strokes and trying to recover! It’s been 3 months and can’t wait for all of this to finally be over but thanks again for the tips and hope that I can go bowling 🎳 again soon!
I like how you have a lot of your dads fundamentals mixed into your 2 hand style. Same cupped ball and pointer finger straight ahead etc. Also the Simo off hand shift 🤣🤣. Picked up a couple small things in your vid that should help me out. Old guy that switched a year ago, it's been a grind but been slowly getting better and more consistent! I got to figure out how you get that speed thou 😲😲
@@BarnzyBowlingHey Ryan, could you please share about your inserts? Do you put your finger till 1st joint only or like 1 and a half joint? And how do you grip the ball because i see like your middle finger kinda 1 and a half joint but your ring only till 1st joint? Thanks Ryan.
Any tips on getting used to sliding vs planting while using a hop step, it just feels super unnatural to me to drive my foot forward instead of coming down and planting.
Other than a quicker approach to the foul line, you also accelerate your hand at the bottom of your release and practice getting your hand out the ball quicker, so that you don’t tug on it which will reduce speed or make you miss your target
any tips you can give on the folk that can't get that low to the floor? i've been releasing "late" because my ball tends to over hook when i release at the front of the lane. Thanks in advance
im not sure what I'm doing wrong, I drift step and slide, left foot to the last board left, target is center arrow, IF I hit the center arrow ball makes its turn at the break markers and goes right into the 7 pin, more speed doesn't help as I lose control of the ball. I believe my elbow position is inconsistent. I try to concentrate on my wrist position after the release, I think im somehow going around the ball. as its top spins , which gives almost no pin action. main ball is a storm journey spare ball is a sidewinder, which follow my line better , but again no pin action. not sure what to work on first
Can you create a video around where your non dominant hand is suppose to be placed on the ball… I feel like I’m losing the ball when I’m throwing my shots
One thing I noted you missed in discussion about the two-handed form is your third and fourth step. Your style seems somewhat similar there to the way Anthony Simonsen and Spencer Robarge do theirs, but seems a lot different than the way Chris Via and Jason Belmonte do theirs. Does that just speak to evolution of two handed form, or is that just individual again?
Do you ever have issues with knee pain on your plant knee? (inside of the left knee for me). If you have, is there anything you'd recommend? I have knee sleeves and a small patella knee strap that eases the pain but does not prevent it. Curious on your perspective if you have the time. Thanks in advance.
i am far from Barnes but i am a 2h that had a similar issue, occasional pain on the inside of my sliding knee. i found the source of it being my foot being pointed too far inwards while my knee/upper leg was driving straight on my slide. hopefully that makes sense - essentially a mismatch between where my knee was pointing vs where my toes were pointing. being more conscious of keeping them aligned through my slide has helped alot.
I have a question Ryan. So idk if my home centers ball speed reader is correct but were just gonna go off that. It says I bowl only about 16.3 to maybe 17 sometimes. How do I increase ball speed? I see you and belmo dont have super fast footwork but great ball speed. I need your help. Thanks!🔥
Hey Ryan so question. When you first started 2 handed bowling did you have a problem with your fingers being swollen. My ring finger has been swollen for literally a month and a half minimum nonstop. I don’t think it’s broken honestly because I wouldn’t be able to bowl haha. But do you have any solutions to finger pain and even wrist pain?
what is the reason you have your left hand on the side of the ball at first and then move it to the front after push away? Why not just keep it in front from the beginning?
Thanks! Do you use mostly your left hand for backswing? Like, do you push your ball with your left hand? I am having issues with my left hand going off the ball during backswing :/@@BarnzyBowling

Phenomenal video. Keep making ones like this. Extremely informative.

awesome to hear man!
thank you for the video... very informative. Looking foward to more videos seeing what you are working on in your form

Very nice explanation of two handed bowling. I like those repeating slow motion views from different angles. Thanks Ryan!!!

Yay! Learning from the goat! Great Vid!
Thank you ryan!! Been waiting for this one!
Yessss glad to get this video I’ve been waiting on something like this!!!! I don’t throw just like you but I throw a similar straight elbow style.
Thanks for the tips, you mentioned you do something different with your push away when your standing even further left, could you describe what that is or is it covered in another video? Thanks
Finally….. tq for the vid

FINALLY!!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!
Ryan Barnes.....future Hall of Famer.....Watch!!!!!
Thanks for the great video! Any pointers on how to release and rotate the ball effectively?
What pitches do you use. Trying to get my track off the middle finger, thank you.
7/16 left and right
3/8 reverse in middle
1/2 half in ring
@@BarnzyBowlingyou should do a Vid on how you came to figure out those were the pitches you needed!

Ryan do you rest your forearm on the ball even through the downswing as you throw the ball?
I was wondering the same thing
To play the inside of the ball do you just keep your elbow tucked into your side?
Any tips on getting used to sliding vs planting while using a hop step, it just feels super unnatural to me to drive my foot forward instead of coming down and planting.
Just repetition, going to feel weird for awhile but will benefit you greatly!
at 60 I cant generate the speed to match up to this, lol you make it look easy, continued good luck to you

Can you create a video around where your non dominant hand is suppose to be placed on the ball… I feel like I’m losing the ball when I’m throwing my shots
kinda curios tho... do you think pushing away on the 3rd step like you do works for everyone?
It’s different for everyone
Do you have any tips on keeping your opposite hand on top of the ball and not letting go for a second?

I think it’s more individual than evolution
That’s unique because you do the push away at the third step than most players
do you use fingertip or semi fingertip grip and what would you recommend? thank you!

How are you able to get so much ball speed?
How to keep arm that straight at push away ?
Do u have any drills or tools to help u keep ur right arm straight? It's like perfectly straight lol

You should get your dad to get Bakes to do a collab video with you about him breaking down your game
Haha! Don’t get paid enough to come on here!
What ball speed should i be aiming for?
Whatever matches up with your rev rate
Ryan what are you pitches
Hey Ryan so question. When you first started 2 handed bowling did you have a problem with your fingers being swollen. My ring finger has been swollen for literally a month and a half minimum nonstop. I don’t think it’s broken honestly because I wouldn’t be able to bowl haha. But do you have any solutions to finger pain and even wrist pain?
As I bowled my finger size got bigger and bigger so probably have to go up in grip sizes
Who turned out the lights?! 🤔 Hopefully better lighting next video.
Need lighting bro
video quality is foggy
What is "perfect" timing for you? Some ppl say its when the ball is perpendicular to the floor at 3rd step. Is that true for you as well?
what is the reason you have your left hand on the side of the ball at first and then move it to the front after push away? Why not just keep it in front from the beginning?
Just feels comfortable, hand naturally shifts to that spot and if I start with it there it looks weird and feels weird lol
Thanks! Do you use mostly your left hand for backswing? Like, do you push your ball with your left hand? I am having issues with my left hand going off the ball during backswing :/@@BarnzyBowling
