The most helpful thing I found when trying to get my ID-5100a working with my new Pi-Star. DUP with a zero offset is needed unlike what the video says but everything else worked smooth as butter. Thanks for posting this.

I found that when I programmed my hotspot in like you said, my ID 51a plus 2 would skip my repeater. So instead of selecting no duplex i just made it a +, also works with -, and set the offset to 0. It works perfectly! Thanks for the video! Awesome as usual!
I found the same thing on my ID-4100A; turned the offset on, set the offset frequency to 0.
@@JKTrail Same thing with my 5100.....Also when using a Vhf Frequency shouldn't the Character in the 8th spot be a "C" not a B (for Uhf)

Thanks for the video. I see others asking the same question I had and after 4 days for trial an error, I finally figured it out.
When programming an ID-51a plus 2 (and likely all ID-51) you cannot follow this video verbatim. In the video you show programming the as a DV-Repeater with DUP set as none. Well if you do this with the ID-51a plus 2, the memory is set as SKIP and no matter what I tried I could not get it to work or even be a selectable entry from memory.
So, I changed the DUP to DUP- (or you can use DUP+) and set the OFFSET FREQ to 0.000.00 and it will finally work. Other than that, you can follow all other steps.
Oh Holy crap I wish I read your comments here! As I am posting my comments above I basically just went through the same thing for the last 3 weeks loosing my mind! Oh well live and learn, should have read the manual first.

Even though my radio is ID51A plus 2, I followed your video to understand the fundamentals of D-STAR and how to setup my radio with ZumSPOT Pi... Just wanted you to know that your video helped me to overcome a setup process labeled by many as "very complicated" and got me on the air. Appreciated!
One important item --> You CANNOT select "off" for the offset (~5:49 in the video). You need to select + or - then set the offset frequency to 0.0000... If you select OFF a "skip" will appear and it will not be available. Took me a while and reading through many posts to find this out for my ID-5100A

I watched the video a dozen times I tried to enter the info into my ID-52 a Dogen times and could not get it to work, then I went to the comments to ask for help and it was there already. 😀😀. Glad I saw a link to this video. I just got the ID-5100 and so far have just 2 local repeaters programed. Finally yesterday after many days of trial and error I got my THD-74 to do Dstar with my Jumbospot. With the help from this excellent video I will start the process with my ID-5100.
I have DMR and Fusion radios also and by far for me anyway the Fusion has been the simplest to set up and use.
the callsign thing got me too! when you put in your callsign, the module indicator needs to be in position 8. I needed two spaces between my callsign (K4HRL) and the B... i was able to hear conversations, but wasn't able to transmit and hit my HS until i fixed that.
What about the G?
I changed my callsign when my vanity was granted and it quit working. Even reprogramming did not fix it, not until I found your message. Saved me even more wasted time - thanks!
If you make one setting up the IC-705 for Pi-Star, you will make my day. I followed this for my ID-5100 and it was perfect. I cannot get my 705 working through my Nano Spot. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for not getting back to me even though I emailed you multiple times. Your video is incorrect, to have the DV repeater show now on the 5100 in the "FROM" box you must have the "DUP" turned on and select an offset as shown on page 7-21 of the manual in the first column. I followed this video and was loosing my mind because I could not get my setup for the Zumspot to show from Repeater Group slot 50 to show, after reading the manual I finally fixed it myself. Dont know if it is a firmware update since you did this video or not but I just bought my radio at Dayton this year. Cheers....
You saved my sanity with this post. I followed the same steps in the video repeatedly and continued to fail to find it on the repeater group plus it always showed Skip. Once i put in dup with 0 offset it worked. Thank you!!!
Thanks for this. Same issue. Added Repeater group and Hotspot info but it did not show up in the DV Mode "From" field. Edited the entry with "-Dup" with "0" offset and the Hotspot showed up in the DV Mode "From" field.
Thank you for the post! Playing around with the Skip/Skip All On/Off did nothing to fix it not being able to use my repeater. The duplex of zero in the settings was the trick - many thanks!

After may hours of set up of my pi-star hotspot and linking it to dv memory, I finally goti it to work by 1. Importing a repeater cvs, editing it and added the correct information to make a new group and putting it the Pi-star linkup to the id-5100, adding that list to id5100 sd card. installing sd card back to id-5100. Got the group to stay and be able to find it all the time. Next step completly install a new pi-star image file to the micro=-sd card and reconfiguered my dvmega hotspot. I put in a little used reflector ID and could link to it and then put in a different little used reflector and was able to link to that. And I could hear the response back audibly. HOOOORAAAy nearly two weeks of many hours work.and it works.
That was the simplest explanation that works. Thanks!

Thanks! I bought the IC-7100 yesterday over the FT-891 because of price difference of $190 it gives me a 2m/70cm radio. Since it has D-Star and I don't have a repeater in my area now I have a use for one of my three hotspots. Do you have a D-star demo on HF bands? I am also wondering if the IC-7100 does SSB, AM and CW on 2m/70cm?

Can you please tell me how to do this with an openSPOT 2 and ID51A? The hotspot memory channel shows in the- menu-DV memory -repeater list, but does not show for selection in DR Mode.
This is very helpful. However, when I set up the channel for my openSPOT with all the necessary details, the saved channel always shows the 'Skip' designator, so it does not show up on my repeater list. The various skip options don't seem to change this status. 73.

I cant for the life of me to get this to work on my ID51a plus. yes i set it to 0 offset. nwo If i change reflectors on pi star sometime the radio says its linked but does not thing mostly it says not linked. I never see dstar activity on the dashboard either . dmr seems to work perfect
Trying to do this with an ID-51. How do I get to the "From" section? When I hold the "DR" button I get "No repeater found".

What is the 'button' you're pressing off screen? I'm not connecting to the reflector although I am following all the instructions.
I am having trouble following this procedure. My GW call sign reads AC2VE BG. I see other comments about this but no solution. How should my call sign be entered. Also, by entering in location 50 I do not have a repeater list group "local". I may have solved my skip problem by using duplex with zero offset.
I found that I had to put a -DUP otherwise it did not work. But otherwise it worked just fine. Thanks for the info.
Did you have to program the reflectors into the radio?
Yea it would have helped if you had mentioned that buy switching the DUP OFF then the SKIP function is forced on permanently so that this memory channel cannot be used !!! The DUP has to be left on but the offset frequency set to zero (0.000.00) then the SKIP function can be toggled on or off. Hope this helps as its taken me hours to figure this bug out, i've even lost my radio memories so had to start all over again !! :(
Erick , thx for the detailed video . Followed your instructions and programmed easily . But , newly added Repeater List & Pi-Star HotSpot are not visible at DR/FROM /Repeater List because they have visible option "Skip" .Tried everything to remove "Skip" without success .

I followed this exactly as done in the video however when i write it puts a skip on the group and it wont let me remove the skip off that group .. or the reapeater in it. how do you take that off i tried the long press but it wont do it
I have a D51 2 plus and following your steps, I cannot figure if my life depended on it why it keeps on saying "callsign duplicate" and does not let me save. I do not have any other jumbospot memory at all. Help! KN4TYX

When I configure my hostpot with a ID-5100 do I still need a data cable from the radio to USB port on the hotspot?

With my Icom Radios and Pi-Star if I use "Simplex" nothing happens. I MUST choose "Duplex" with zero offset. "Your mileage may vary", as they say, but I've never been able to use Simplex with an Icom radio. ~ND1L
Followed your steps and I can hear and maybe talk with my ID4100 BUT when I go to "Reflector" in the radio to do the link or unlink that doesnt do anything, I hear the beep when press the button but doesnt move forward so I can't link or unlink a reflector, is ONLY working on the default REF001 C and thats it, i cant change it. Interesting, if I go to one of the imported repeaters then I have the link and unlink options available in the radio, so mean that is something with the Jumbospot, any idea? I am running the PI-Star version 3.4.17 that came with the device, but if I upgrade to the latest version I cant get it to connect to my wifi when upgrade it so I being using the one from factory.

My Pi-Star wont link to any reflector at all. I have exact same settings as you do. My echo tests are working fine. What am I missing ?
I have an IC 7100, I've been pulling my hair out to get it talking to my radio plus connect. I'm registered for both of my calls with va7rag here in Vancouver, BC. I did go into DV memories> Both the RT programming of the hotspot in Dstar Calculation is not allowing my radio to link
I have followed your video at least 7 times and I don't get any sign of linking or audio. I have check all your steps which seem correct. I am going next to get a new image for the pi-star maybe issue with d-star pw. I so far have been at this issue for 2 weeks and at least 60 hours and I don't get the linking but just from the hotspot I have gotten audio out and conversations, just not responding to dr mode. When programming the group number to the repeater list of the ID-5100A, you will probably see SKIP appended to the hotspot just defined. To solve this, enable DUP+ but set the offset to 0.000.00. This bug appears in both firmware versions E7 and E8. Apparently, Icom has no interest in correcting this.
On an Icom 7100 this only works up to the point of saving .The Skip function will not deactivate on an added group . Have you heard of this ? The result being the added group of individual repeater not available in DR mode....
Hi, could you make a video on how to add reflectors and setup a hotspot for an Icom IC-7100? I can manually add reflectors into "My Call List", but I can't figure out a way to import reflectors into "My Call List" via Icom CS-7100 and RT Systems Programming software. Thanks for the great videos!
I’ve followed all the way and can’t get ride of a SKIP tag which doesn’t the created memory to be available to run.
Well this solved the issue I was having. Somehow the repeater callsign in my memory got messed up
I am not being heard by anyone, but I am hearing everything even my vehicle transmitting through the local d Star repeater is coming through. nothing showing up on the local RF when I key up. I am hearing a courtesy beep after I inky, any thoughts. followed your video 2 to 3 times..
Will this setup work on a MMDVM hotspot for the 4100?
I used this video to program my IC-9700 and, while I can add my ZUMSpot as a DR Memory, it shows up with SKIP next to it and nothing I do will remove SKIP and allow me to use it. Any suggestions?
Select an offset and set it to 0. This will get rid of the skip. It was driving me crazy too.
I'm posting on September 19, 2020 and there are some minor differences in the radio firmware and obviously also the pi-star (TGIF). I've got the radio figured out, but there's just a problem in the pi-star that I can't figure out.
And it's the callsign and two spaces and the B ( AA5AZ B)
When I do this it says skip on it then when I look for it don't see it , can't get skip off
two separate hotspots, seperate frequencies. i get "duplicate call sign" error when i try to write/save the entry. how can i save the new hostpot and not have it conflict with my old hotspot? i only have one HAM call sign ID.

NOTE: The "G" at 5:10 has to be in the 8th character position. So, if your callsign is only 4 or 5 characters, you will have to add an additional space or two from what this video illustrates. This also applies to the "B" character added at the end of a callsign, too.
You ever see when programming this on a IC-705 the channel comes up "SKIP" ?

5 yrs ago....ive had radio 3 plus yrs....newest vidio i seen about this radio always over 3-4 yrs. gateway DIDNT catch on well so......
Ok I tried it again and it’s still showing “skip” after programming it into the list. I cannot figure out how to unskip it. And yes, I pushed all the skip buttons it gave me including “skip all off”

Correct, but you also have to have the offset as + or - Duplexing even though it is also set at 0.000. A real pain the butt. I spent way too much time getting rid of that dumb skip button.

HI, and thanx for your excellent videos. Really lots of times they saved my life LOL. Could you make a video of exactly this, but with the ic-7100? It seems it's not just like that in the 7100. I only could TX using the freq of the hotspot in the vfo, adding dup and offset and dv mode. No way to make it work in dr mode. Pi - star config, exaclty as yours, but the radio part...no way with dr mode.

5100. Tried to put in 50 but when I look for it... Not there. Says skip
it shows in my to list but no local in my from list.. update it seems every time i put the B after call sign it turns on skip and you cant turn it off..
Me too. Unable to remove the "skip" from the repeater list once I create the hotspot. Any ideas?

Thanks so much, man. The user interface for this stuff is terrible. It should prompt you for the callsign and the letter like it does on pi-star.
Mine sets the gateway sign as BG and when I manually change it to G it shows an “xgw” when I back out, right next to “skip”. It also won’t let me select it when I’m DR mode.
For anyone reading this: I’m an idiot. I have a 1x3 call and completely forgot about the 8 character rule from your first video.
For ID51 HT Dup had to be on with offset set to zero. Dup off would not work.

i can not get this to work , it always says skip on the end.
I had to use DV repeater, and put a zero duplex offset, and make sure the B and G are in the eight position or it will never key up.
On the 9700 you have to do DV simplex or it will skip.

All too damn complicated!! Too many "terms". Ham radio manufactor's are like computer makers in the 1990's where you had Coleco Adam, Commodore Amiga, DOS, RS, ,Apple, CPM, etc.
This is the most Rube Goldburg way to boil water in relation to communication.

WA9RYO - I had to use DUP+ with zero offset otherwise it did not display on the radio. I use RT Systems software Ver 5.00.48 and the entry does not show up under DR memories and if you try to read and then write to the radio, you lose the entry. Icom's CS-5100 software is ok. I notified Karin at RT Systems and they are working on it. I expect the same issue for the ID-51 and ID-31 RT Systems software too.
We found that the WCS-D5100 software from RT Systems only accommodates 1200 DR Memory slots whereas the ID-5100 with the latest firmware has 1500 slots of DR memory. You must read from the radio first, this will now show up as 1500 slots. However, your backup, if it has more than 1200 slots, will not show up the 1201st slot if you freshly open the RT software.
