SEO Mistakes to Avoid | 3 Black Hat Techniques That WILL Get You Banned from Google

These are the top SEO mistakes to avoid, and if you don't, you're going to get banned.
Tip #1: Avoid building links through WordPress themes.
Some people are still doing them, and they think it works.
Back in the day, I had a web hosting website. I never provided web hosting, but, I ranked number one on Google for the term web hosting.
That's one of the most competitive terms.
Everyone's going after it because they want affiliate commissions for HostGator, Bluehost, GoDaddy.
You name it.
Instead of creating my own themes I bought domains that had hosting in it or the term web hosting and then bought a ton of WordPress themes.
I bought all the popular WordPress themes that were already out there and got them for little to no money.
Within six months I shot off to the page of Google for the term web hosting.
Within another three months, I shot up to the first spot.
And you know what happened?
Google eventually banned the website.
When I was ranking number one, I was generating over a $100,000 a month in affiliate income.
That was great.
I didn't even spend more than $50,000 buying a ton of these sites, and I did that over a period of six months.
So the income that I was generating was massive compared to my investment.
But I got banned.
I learned, don't do shady link affiliate tactics.
Tip #2: Avoid expired domain names.
There was a domain named after a park, and I bought it because it was about the civil war in America and it had a bunch of EDU links.
All I did was to a take ancient domain name that had a ton of authority and change it to casino-related stuff, and, boom, I popped up in the top three spots for the key term "online casino" and "casino."
That's crazy, right?
Eventually, Google figured it out, got banned, lost all my money.
I stopped using those tactics because it's not good in the long run.
If you're not sure if you're SEO strategy that you're using is going to get you banned or not, leave a comment, and I'll tell you if you should be doing more of it or less of it.
The last thing you want to do is put all this time and energy like I did and then get banned.
Think long term.
Tip #3: Avoid writing the same content over and over again.
After a while, you run out of topics to produce. So you just regurgitate the same stuff over and over again.
Instead, what you should be doing is updating your old content and changing it to 2017 to 2018 and making the tools more thorough.
Delete the old ones that no one uses anymore.
In your blog, you probably already have regurgitated content, so go into your Google Analytics, look at the one that gets the least amount of search topic, and redirect to more popular topics.
Combine the content, make it more thorough, you have less duplicate content and take all your old material that's bad and no one's reading anymore, and delete it.
When you do that, you're going to get way more traffic, you're not going to get penalized, and it's going to grow quarter over quarter continually.
Avoid these three SEO mistakes and in the long run when you measure your growth, year over year, you should be going up.
Think long-term, and stay away from short-term tricks and tactics like I was doing.

I am working on my website and was ranking #1 in some major keywords but suddenly i notice my rankings fell down for no reason. Then i checked my webmaster and saw some sudden backlings from a website (around 80-85 backlinks) when i checked, those backlings were broken.
Is that the cheap method that competitors use to down our rankings? Disvow them is the only option? Please make a separate video on this.

Made a mistake similar to this the other day actually but completely unintentionally. I posted a UA-cam video for my business' product video (I even declared it contained an 'endorsement') and it got flagged and I got a strike already on my brand's UA-cam account. I'm glad I've learned from this mistake early and thanks for the great videos, Neil!

Hey man! Question? im getting ready to start messing with/letting someone else social market a friends roofing company. I have been top ranked in door to door sales for this state's roofing market all year. Im moving out of state to travel with my girls, and pursue my own Automation biz, yet i want to continue generating helly leads for him and to continue getting paid from online leads. I had heard of software's that manage/operate a lot of it for you and ive found 1 or 2, one of which is with Tai Lopez, should be good right?
Anyway, my buddy mentioned one thing to me when he agreed to let me start trying out some online marketing for him. He mentioned that with Google I guess before they had issues with getting their original website banned by using backlinks or by creating a separate Link in general. As long as you have permission from the other sites to put their content onto an RSS feed on your site, then you're fine.
I'm not totally sure! I would think as long as your have permission from the sites you're using, you'd be fine.

Just to be on the safe side I think I will just write my own content as I want to rank properly so that hopefully I get picked by Google ads sense. Also because I am using Amazon Affiliate Links I do not want to get banned from anywhere.
I know it's more hard work, but like you said in your video on how not to get banned better to do the hard work and think long-term.
Plus don't want to end up losing the domain name that I have found. One other quick question I have a business idea if I send it across on the email address on your website will this do or do I need to send it to a certain email address?

It would be better to 301 redirect to other relevant articles on your site instead of your homepage.

Hi Neal, if one runs across an amazing expired domain but contains 2 or 3 spam considered casino backlinks, does the whole site lose it's value or it can that site being that its now in new hands be cleaned up to benefit for the backlink value and profile it does contain? thank you!

#3 Question: we have a local media company. In our blog section, we promote the top items happening in our area each week. So it's calendar based and comes out each week. Think it's ok to leave these older posts? Or what would be an appropriate strategy there?

Hi Neil, I have a question that I hope you can help me with. I have a blog post that is moderately successful from 10 years ago. It is 900 words long. I want to expand on this topic. I am debating if I should add another 600-700 words to this blog post OR if I should make it a new blog post. Thank you for your insight.
If the post is doing well then I would add to it :) You don't want two posts targeting the same keyword.

Thanks for the warning. What if you legitimately make a WordPress plugin, is it ok to have a link to your site from the wp store and should it be nofollow or can it be do follow? Also if you build websites for people, is it ok to have a powered by link in the footer as long as it’s nofollow? I'm not Neil Patel but we just did a case study for this one it doesn't work anymore - quality referring domains overpowers tons of backlinks even if the backlinks are coming from related websites.
thats our result, want also to know what are others peoples opinion. coz, to be honest, based on personal experience last 2 months, the web 2.0 links you can buy are completely useless

Micro niche is more based on the small, segmented audience you're targeting. Longtail keywords are longer queries that people type into Google.

I don't think you'll get banned from Google but it probably won't help you that much, especially if the links and old site aren't relevant to what you are doing.

Google LOVES to make examples out of people. I got disabled for a creative little trick I found in AdWords, was making few thousand conversions per month, then was "disabled for enabling dishonest behavior", even though now, everyone in my niche uses that same strategy and probably killing it..
Hopefully they'll find out sooner or later that if they heavily depend on AdWords, they are jeopardizing their business. Fortunately for me, I was already messing with SEO, and as soon as I was disabled once, I decided not to use AdWords anymore, and have been working on my links and rankings, I must say, it takes time and effort, but is DEFINITELY worth it.
The traffic from SEO is not "free", there is a lot of up-front investing both in time and money, and the results are not instant like with AdWords, but it's definitely been great to see the increase in first time customers over time.
For scale, I was getting around 100-120 first time orders each week, then when AdWords dropped, I literally had about 6 first time orders the first week, which were ALL visitors who had been converted through AdWords, just purchased later.
However, as I started building links, improving my SEO, etc, I've gone up to 15 first time orders this week.
One final note: AdWords really makes you turn a blind eye to a lot of key factors in the success of your business, like my on-site SEO was absolutely trash, my CTR was under 1% when I started, and I hadn't even thought of things like my basket size, and repeat orders (not totally SEO related or AdWords fault, you kinda disregard important things), even my product descriptions were very poor and I didn't even care because I was still getting orders.
Once I realized all these things, fixing descriptions, tags, images, and some email marketing, over the last month and a half, my average order size has increased by 28%, and my repeat orders have gone up by... 58%... even though I get about 20-30% of the traffic I used to get from AdWords!
Keep going my friends, you can ALL get there!

Tamal Plays if you want to use those apps first you need to be an expert on seo then yes worth using automatic link buildings app with knowledge. Dont try them without proxy on any of your main domains.

Hey Neil, my personal facebook account was banned/deactivated after a while i promoted my products. I still have other ad accounts to advertise in the future but in the moment i first wanna try to learn other methods i can leverage the business that was banned by now...
My final question is what things i have to avoid on my future salespages, to get banned by facebook again and especially what i can do that nothing like this happens to this page with google ads...
I would also love if you would give me some tips on how i could get facebook to unban my personal facebook account again. (From the beginning on, i received just one message... That i my business doesn´t comply to facebooks ads polices, that they don´t support my business model and they immediately told me that there is no action they could take to reactivate my account) Part of the reason might be that i actally used my "personal account" to advertise and that i didn´t really read the FB ads policy at this time and i was not aware about the face that facebook actually bans accounts.
After reading their policies, i became aware of that one of my (unpaid posts) really offended really multiple of their sensitive policy terms but i have the feeling they won´t take much effort to change their mind unless the fact that i actually spend quite some money there...
I actually just don´t wanna mess up at any point for being that short sighted, not reading the policy of any ad company and i would appreciate some tips that should be avoided on my landing page (shopify store, clickfunnel blog etc.) that this won´t happen again.

Hey Julian, I'm sorry to hear about your Facebook banning. That's rough. My advice is to start over with a new page, then create a business page. Use organic methods at first. Don't advertise or promote your products at all -- just focus on providing value. Then test a small ad budget. I wish you the best of luck!

Could you imagine that facebook watches my account in the moment, so your suggestion is basically wo make weed grow over the situation?? ^^ :-O... I will keep the site... i have wrote to some good pages for traffic and asked them for promotion in return for some special work from me ;-P... I also started out with google ads now...
- Actually the most important answer i was searching for was, if there are "no gos" i have to avoid on my website or shop as google & FB advertiser...
Something like specific apps or excessive upsells... Just reading their policy didn´t give me absolute clarity what is prohibited on a landing page... (Im not talking about illegal and fraudulent methods... Rather something that might be perceived negatively by their system...)
Please explain point no 1 with example. Show which kind of back links not to build.

Hello, I did backlink exchange because of which there was a big boost in my organic traffic from google for nearly 1 month after which my traffic fell down drastically ........can you suggest some way to recover that lost traffic
