I think it's more that the federation was playing catch up, remember that zeon had years to develop a mobile suit pilot training program whereas the federation had a few months. That's primarily why the V-Project suits had core fighters, they were needed to safely get combat data that could be transplanted into the new GM'S. Had the attack on side 7 never happened, I suspect that the white base and its crew would have either been tasked with raiding missions to gather data or they would have been sent to the front lines in Europe to prepare for Odessa.

In my school vr game goalius had been found enraged with a heat hawk in his head and missing a arm and he saw the black dancing death and goalius had a conversation before shit happened lydo wondered what happened goalius replied with facing off a zeon ace pilot in a very dangerous mobile suit ( he's referring to the zaku amazing sense it teamed up with the federation turned zeon pilot and had a ball with him and piloted the kampfer amazing and those 2 did that much damage and fyi Goalius arm was slammed in the zaku amazing cockpit so badly that it's now embedded) and lydo offered to take goalius to hq and goalius replied with this ( goalius: ok there dancing death)

That is true. Wonder why did they stop with just Armor GM in terms of making a mass produced MS that can hover on land? It seemed like hovering was the best advantage an earth model MS could have right next to atmospheric flight. Strafing shots, hit-and-run tactics, bypassing certain unruly terrain, less compromise to mobility when carrying heavier weapons, and simply staying on the move at all times. Zeon’s Dom and other later models based on it had all of that and it remains consistently a big threat on land; even holding its own against certain models from 0087 and ahead.

Aldnoah Zero, despite the short 2 seasons, showcased a versatile amount of custom units and made more clear that ace pilots can Excel even inside grunt MS if skilled enough; Valvrave the Liberator goes a bit super mecha, but it does feels worth a research.... Maybe look at Patlabor mechs? Or the Ghost in the shell series machines?

What I mean is mobile suit’s that have appeared in animation but or more often than not kind of forgotten. For me some examples would be the Gallus from ZZ Gundam, the Aheads from 00, and the Targos from Gundam Wing. Because for as long as I’ve been a fan of Gundam I noticed that some mobile suits aren’t as talked about as much as others.
