It really baffles me that theres barely anything about naval warefare in UC. It's like the largest surface in earth and it means a huge advantage to whoever controls the oceans.
This is why I love side story mangas that fill the gaps.
If I'm not remembering wrong, given the Zeon's navy lack any surface vessel, most of the naval battles in the OYW basically devolved down to submarine/anti-submarine or amphibious operation.
The only explanation I can find in regards to EF neglect on the control of the ocean, Zeon fail to achieve air superiority, the earth federation would mostly just rely on their aircraft to transport thing. A bit of a hand wave, but it is what it is.
Logically, the important things to win the war are on the land or in space. Water and airforce then just becomes a medium by which you can transport your attacking force to beseige the target for your cause.
So rather than developing custom naval vessels fitted with lots of ammo to bombard enemy fortifications from the water, what you actually need to do is take the beach and push closer to the targets in the land.
You don't have to agree, but jt makes sense to me why naval and air force fall out of importance in a situation like this.
Earth federation already trying to match zeon amphibious MS but they knew zeon MS much advance. Rather than trying to catch up, EF high brass decided to focus warfare on land and later space. Because of that zeon naval forces largely ignored, cut off from supply, and some of them later operated as pirate in order to survive. in UC 0092 some of remaining zeon operated submarine still exist
Zeon main income is colonies and Fed is Earth but also some colonies. The problem is unlike our wars Zeon comes from Space which would be the main theater in that sense. Most supplies would be fed in Space cause the vast distances while hinder Zeon they also give it time and safety net to develop stuff without interruptions. It's USA and Soviet in ww2 did. Much of both countries were left untouched cause the latter two hence they were able to produce so fast and so much.

Anyone notice "Oliver May" (forgot his Zeon Lieutenant Engineering Corps. rank or whatever) is the REAL "Death Angel" (Igloo II Refrence). He always survives his OYW encounters as an observent, engineer, and technological overseer overall. Also someone needs to make a flex seal meme with him doing that to the underwater laser/Aegir. Also I agree when Kakarot197 kinda mentioned how powerful the "Fisheye Balls" were because thoose claws seem powerful enough to rip apart a mobile suit.

Beam weapons have always been difficult to use in high moisture environments . They actually use this in a episode of 00 , landing hard to spray water into the air to defuse beam weapons on a ship in the area.
Zeon submarine forces while impressive, are in my opinion too small to have any major impact on the war itself. From what I can find, Zeon had capture a total of 32 submarines, now imagine you have to patrol the entire world's ocean with little to no support with this number of subs.
While you could argue that they are a head of the EF in term of marine mobile suits, but those would only be effective if its sub able to get where they are needed.
When I hear he said "will be tested by the 603". I was jumping in joy.
603 is what I call "second family" for me, and MS igLoo overall is the very first Gundam series that resonates with me to the point of crying and I cries every episode, I mean, who can't? To see the 603 manga being exposed like this is like a dream. Okay, I'm just going to sit back on my couch and reminiscing how the man of 603 had lived, and died
Aegir is pretty much what you would expect from Spacenoids developing weapons to work planetside despite never having been there with their current gear BEFORE going to war and then finding out the bulky stuff they made that works well in space, doesn't work so well when operating in a higher gravity zone and then on top of that trying to develop weaponry that works underwater and literally applying big and bulky tech to try and solve that problem...
Personally I think the Aegir would have been just fine with the kinks worked out and if used within a large squad of suits which can act as defenders while Aegir unit is prepped and ready to fire, or as a submarine weapon built into a dedicated vessel to operate a modified aegir or two...
Captain: Aegir is damaged, if you fire it will explode!

This reminds me a lot of that large mega particle beam cannon used in the Battle of Loum from IGLOO. Although I think that was one of the earlier anti-ship experimental weapons that took on MS for competition.

Reminds me of the Mega Beam Launcher for the GO4 from the Space, to the End of a Flash side story, well in my case i remember it from the Throughbred missions in the Encounters in Space game. they took out a whole fleet with that thing.
The Jormungandr is way larger than this iirc, also, you can actually experience the Igloo scenarios in the PSP game Gundam Assault Survive, yes, you can personally pilot the immobile laser cannon and the other Igloo test units
The Jormungandr isn't actually a Megaparticle cannon. It's a Plasma Cannon. Protons and electrons in an agitated electromagnetic state vs megaparticles which are somehow magnetically neutral. (All beam weapons in Wing though are either Laser or Plasma, there's no megaparticle equivalent in that AU, I can't speak for any of the others.)

As cool as seeing the Fish-Eye was, it frustrates me that we see the common Gundam flaw of 'main character survives because their MS just doesn't take damage.' I love tanky builds, but Gundam seems very plot armour based on whether your MS is a stone wall, or a pinto.
I honestly wonder how they expected what is effectively a wave of plasma traveling at going towards light speed to be slower than a very obvious ballistic shell that most likely didn't even break the sound barrier under water.
That just made the engineer in me scream bloody murder. I know that they were trying to get beams to work underwater... But come on lads!! Thats not how you do it! And they could have tested it in a more controlled environment.
Pretty sure they didn't. I think there's a mistranslation going on here. It's not that the beam is supposed to be slowed down, it's supposed to be _delayed_ until the projectile has gone far enough ahead.

Well yes but still. How far is far enough ahead? The maximum range of the beam shot? How long will the bubbles last?
And how long is the target gonna wait between detecting the ballistic shell and the actual beam attack? The shell would be countered and explode in some cases, leaving the Aegir with an explosive beam cannon bomb.
I use the same head canon for all of these such things, the engineer wanted the pilot to die.

Gotta love a completely obsolete Marine Zaku just ridiculously no-selling a two-on-one fight against Fisheyes. They upgrade the armor when the Feds weren't looking or something?
Okay, like who else has no sympathy for Gunther and the captain? They let their guards down in a war and got slapped for it. It was completely their fault their ship and crew died. His whole revenge thing is really really hard to get behind.
IIRC, civilian ship interception was not a 'shoot on sight' thing, at least not for surface ships. Given that the OYW is pretty much WWII IN SPACE edition, it doesn't surprise me that they started by requesting the tanker to go away.
This is more or less standard auxiliary cruiser tactics. Check up the Kormoran and what it managed to do.

That was absolute madness. The way Kakarot said "unguarded" implies it was definitely a Federation ship. Who the hell stares at their watch for 10 min right after capturing enemy resources?
I guess Zeon watches must be hella interesting.
It would have been more believable if the ship was boobytrapped and the trap going off was the Fisheyes' cue to finish the target.
And I still have no idea how the Fisheyes' weapons apparently can't do any more than scuff up a Zaku...
@@Agonysis If the manga is about Zeon, expect even an obsolete rear-echelon unit like a Marine Zaku to shrug off spears and hydraulic claws like they're just scuffing the paint. Zeon gets hyperarmor whenever they're the focus and their MS turn tougher than Shiro Amada in a Ball.

Sieg Zeon! Also, Oliver must have some form of PTSD with the amount of death he's witnessed (and caused). He's not a solider, just an engineer.

Honeslty, Im surprised most groups in underwater combat in Gundam don't make Fisheye style weapons. A ball shape is naturally resistant against the depths allowing a deeper descent and thus sneakier assaults.
Plus, Underwater MS just need a scratch underwater and they would drown until implosion depth.

In my school vr game the agier was not good at all it had a big flaw it was making echo noises and like in the story "catched" the attention of the fish eyes or goalius liked to call the pair Dori and Nemo a unknown creature was coming in fast and it hit them a strike class claxasaur had showed up and due to its exposed and very sharp spine and claws it's a slash strike it is a claxasaur version of the sword strike and it's the only striker class claxasaur that is amphibious and it was revealed to have been in the test site with old damaged gms and it was helping out a tide ripper a robotic plesiosaur turning the GMs into hybrids for the federation to fight against zeon new map ( mobile armour program )

Oh man, good video. And hearing "Advance" start up when you got to the battle was hype. The IGLOO soundtrack was amazing and it's still one of my favorite series to this day.

Tequila Gundam is a better amphibious mobile suit than the marine zaku.
Also, the art style of this manga is kind of bad. Not gonna lie.
G Gundam is also a super robot series so they weren't limited by the laws of science as much as other Gundam series. Which sounds incredibly stupid when you know that most of the big UC plots star psychics from space. Regardless, Amphibious mobile suits don't get a lot of spotlight since writers want space battles and thus decide that the factions in universe would neglect the waters like them.
And the art style is...okay in my opinion. I can't tell what half the marine life is, looks like stuff out of an old paleontology book and I mean "T-Rex stood straight up like it has a rod for a spine and dragged its tail" old. The rest is passable. Certainly not the worst that I have seen, but nothing to write home about either.
Dont btch out others art style if you cant create a better looking one.

It shoots a pilot capsule, basically super cavitation torpedo, then the beam followed the bubble. At a second I'm thinking OFC beam speed > torpedo. Then it happens, the beam hit the torpedo. Explained if the beam must be slowed down by the system. Ah now it makes sense.
But then again, why not just using the super cavitating torpedo... Like the blue Ashtray. The whole system can be much lighter, and can carry plenty of it at the size of Aegir.
The other thing i can think of if we want the speed of the beam underwater;
Shooting a capsule, this time it will stop after a few meter in front of the beam weapon. The capsule shooting a microwave beam to create a bubble path then followed by the beam itself. Why capsule again, because it could potentially cook the system by itself. The capsule is wire guided and still connected to the system main power source. After a single fire, it is destroyed.
The problem is the microwave tho. Also at the end of the day if the microwave beam was strong enough, why not using it as the weapon by itself. You can easily replace 'microwave beam' in here with the lore equivalent, like GN particle or anything.
I never expected to see a Zaku kick a Ball underwater, but it was much more glorious than i could ever imagine.
I might study the Aegir more so i can make a working version for my SEED Fanfic. Imma give it to the Feds. 😂

I wonder if the fish eyes are prototypes too, since in thunderbolt the Patroling Aqua balls didnt have the extra grappler. Instead they got torpedo racks on top.
I wonder if they scrapped the fisheye grappler because its innefectiveness, i mean the Torpedo if they are the same types as aqua guncannon do more damage than the grapplers when done right even in CQC.

Damn a successful test of an underwater beam weapon but the only pay off is there was only one survivor by the end of it all. But at least that 1 zaku soldier was able to get his revenge And we had a big Impractical beam weapon against a group of very affective ball support units. I mean wow but still awesome video!

The rifle would have had to touch the hull or be in close range. But this might be confused because of Cuntmato did something similar in Seed.

I think it did, but those were Mega particle cannons. Infact, I have been looking though the Zeek aqua designs and found that a lot of them have Mega particle cannons.

Tfw zeon spent so much time on their navy, even making an underwater beam cannon, that they forgot that their Air Force was so terrible that the EF could just fly over the ocean, rendering it for the most part unnecessary
In late UC 0079 zeon forces on land already got push back by EFGF. This is one of zeon attempt to divert EF forces attention which EF largely ignored.
Naval ranks for enlisted personnel, doesn’t have any Sargents , all non commissioned officers, are called petty officers.
That is because Gundam in Japaneses uses army ranks for Zeon. The podcast "Mobile Suit Breakdown" covers the complications this has created for translators.

I love MS Igloo, nearly every story is basically: Oliver meets new test pilot with a chip on their shoulder, they test the new machine, the federation shows up, the pilot does something valiant and dies
