More interesting than everyone's on-paper distance from the lordship is how it will change in the inevitable Frey civil war. If all the Lannister Freys congregate around Riverrun, the Crakehall Freys at Darry and the Rosby Freys at Rosby, that drastically reduces the number of branches even *attempting* to vie for the Twins, and BWB lynchings, infighting and assassinations could whittle those numbers down quickly. (I also quite like the idea that at some point we'll see rival branches controlling each of the twin castles). IMO the very fact that someone so hopelessly far from inheriting the title has stated his ambition to do so makes it narratively all-but-guaranteed to come true, even if only for five minutes.
My headcanon for Theo Frey is that he is just some guy who wanted to attend the tourney and was like. I'm just gonna say my name is Frey it's not like anyone really knows how all the Freys are related. Also incredible video

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate Greatjon Umber? Guy really outdrank 3 drunkards whose sole purpose during the Red Wedding was to make him insanely drunk and then, when eight (!) people came at him to try and subdue him, took the sword of the first guy and proceeded to kill one attacker, wound two others and bite off half the ear of another guy.
We can say a lot of things about the Red Wedding, but the northmen being lined up for slaughter is not one of them; they all fought like beasts before going down which is the most heartbreaking part of those chapters for me.
@@NoCryinRyan despite some brave stands by some of them the others were just straight up slaughtered because they simply stood no chance they were unarmed, drunk and didn't see the betrayal coming.
I mean not really, primogeniture really doesnt like the female line until any male heir lingers. Though if her father claims the lordship and no son of his survives, maybe then she could inherit.
In the ultimate show of "the more things change, the more they stay the same", the series will end with Lord (Big) Walder Frey ruling the Crossing after getting a pardon from the King (Stannis) for helping kill the Lord of Winterfell (Ramsay) via subterfuge. Mark my words, the grindset will continue.
Luwin: My lords, your uncle Ser Stevron Frey was among those who lost their lives at Oxcross. He took a wound in the battle, Robb writes. It was not thought to be serious, but three days later he died in his tent, asleep. Big Walder: He was very old. Five-and-sixty, I think. Too old for battles. He was always saying he was tired. Little Walder: Tired of waiting for our grandfather to die, you mean. Does this mean Ser Emmon's the heir now? Big Walder: Don't be stupid. The sons of the first son come before the second son. Ser Ryman is next in line, and then Edwyn and Black Walder and Petyr Pimple. And then Aegon and all his sons. Little Walder: Ryman is old too. Past forty, I bet. And he has a bad belly. Do you think he'll be lord? Big Walder: I'll be lord. I don't care if he is. Luwin: You ought to be ashamed of such talk, my lords. Where is your grief? Your uncle is dead. Little Walder: Yes. We're very sad. -Luwin, Big Walder Frey, and Little Walder Frey
My head canon is that Theo Frey is like Walder's (the lord) great nephew. It would make sense if there was a lesser branch of house Frey from Walder's potential younger siblings. They aren't in the main branch, so they aren't worth mentioning. That or George wrote a handful of Frey's in 1994 and paat 2000 just forgot about one of them and inseatd of shoe horning him in in book 4, he jusy pretended he didn’t exist.

The irony is tragic but also almost as delectable as the "pork" pies they make up in White Harbor.

On one hand it is very interesting that one house in this series has so many characters with so many relations with one another and so many stories that could be told about each of them On the other hand it explains why Gurm is willing to kill so many characters, why some of them barely get any details and why the books have been taking a long time
I reckon Big Walder Frey will be captured fighting against Stannis and then will be used as a puppet lord claimant for the Twins by Stannis/Wyman’s forces and so will finally fulfil his ambitions of becoming Lord of the Crossing.
Big Walder my favorite. Crazy video. One thing about the Freys that bothers me is that GRRM missed an obvious and fun Frey branch: Bracken-Freys. While I would like to see Bracken-Freys and Blackwood-Freys, you can't have Big Walder and Little Walder be part of it since they can't be at each other's throats all the time since they have to spend time together.
