Something I thought about earlier: The title for "Lost" was very important. It became clear eventually that all the characters on the island had lost their way in their normal lives. Now we have "From". Is it possible that the most important piece of information when it comes to understanding the place is where everyone is "From". Putting together the map might end up being the secret to survival if not escape.

It’s a great point because the title is very important to this show imo. I was thinking it might have to do with where they are “from” also with there feelings, life, etc. what I mean is they all were in a crossroads of sorts, Jim and Tabitha had lost a son and were getting divorced, Kenny and his mom had been having problems with his dads new found dementia, Kristi was engaged to a recovering addict, Jade had just sold some program or app or something and was getting stupid rich, i just think it chose these people because of their life issues too.
Not necessarily. From a marketing standpoint, these producers assume most watching the show are too dumb to remember more than one word in the title 😮

The monsters don't have to be invited in. There is a talisman that keeps them from crossing the threshold. I think they remind me more of the fae. Those stories always start with a little boy being lured and stuck in the kingdom of the fae. A place that traps people, where time moves differently, there are portals that can take you from place to place, and there are monsters that hunt and eat you, but they can look like just about anything. Plus, the place is alive and conscious. Sound familiar? When the characters in From tried to escape the place "got angry" according to Victor and the little boy. Nothing about this reminds me of vampires. Even the talisman is something familiar to fae lore. It would also explain the magic of the electricity. Fae often appear in the guise of children and sometimes they are stuck that way. Sort of like the boy in white who helped them escape through the portal. He looks the same as he did to Victor all those years ago.
Yeah the fae or fairly world is a good shout for this.
They do have to be invited in. The talisman stops them from coming in on their own, but when a window is opened for them they have no problem coming in.
I want to run a D&D campaign with this plot now 😁
I really hope this show doesn't get canceled. Can't wait for season 2.

This season flew by for me. Really enjoyed it. Hopefully they’re able to tell the full story because there are so many mysteries to figure out.
I've never even heard of Epix until now! I watched the trailer, and this show looks right up my alley, but until I hear about a seson 2 I'm waiting. I have gotten into a few shows only for them to be cancelled and I'm left hanging!!

We are getting a second season. It is confirmed.
I think Season 2 will get lot more attention because people are waking up to the fact this show is incredible. One mystery after another, with your poor brain trying to connect the dots and make sense of it all. My suspicion is that the town's people are no longer on planet Earth but somewhere else like another dimension. It reminds me of the movie Dark City or Twilight Zone episode.
I enjoyed this first season despite feeling manipulated with the never ending mystery boxes. There is a definite Lost 2.0, vibe going on, and an uncomfortable suspicious that the writers are copying the formula with no actual plan. The older actors ground the story enough to keep me watching, but I hope there will be some payoffs:)
I promised myself I'd never get duped into following a show like Lost again. I binged the whole first season of From and may wait till all of S2 is available before watching it bc week to week on this show would be rough.
Maybe next season. I love the mystery. Where it keep you guessing.

I keep thinking of Dante's Inferno and the 9 different levels. Which would explain the multiple roads, coming to the same place.
Also the effects of living there have been varied on individuals in the show. Each person has their own trials and the things they need to do.
Lastly, because they all arrived at different times. Inhabitants would be on different levels of the 9 tiers. 😍💗💋

I enjoyed the beginning but the story started to drag without any character or story progression. I still liked it and will tune in but it's giving Lost vibes which is not a plus.

I really liked this show. I agree that we were left off with a lot more questions than we started with but I don’t think that it’s because the writers don’t have a direction. If you remember in one of the the later episodes Tabitha and her son are looking at Victors drawings and trying to figure out what they meant. He said there were drawings of all kinds of things like giant spiders and scarecrows so I think Victor is probably going to be one of the most important characters in understanding these mystery’s. Also, I think the songs that randomly play at the diner are meaningful and not completely random. And lastly, I thought it was really strange how Tabitha found her husbands lost bracelet in the storage room. I’m pretty sure they already renewed it for a second season so I’m super excited to see how things play out

Season 2 had better start giving answers. Don't be like Lost. It's OK if the show coughs up more puzzles but give us at least one satisfying answer to a mystery. Just one. That's all I am asking.
You brought up so many concepts not answered at all that you really reminded me how frustrating this show is. It's almost exhausting. I think I'm going to create a checklist of all the dead ends introduced in season one to see if any of them will be answered. I do think the writers dragging this out is nothing more than a money grab.

i think the writers knew what that are doing, and planning for everything from the beginning.
I needed to hear this, just finished season 1 yesterday and I loved it so much. Was scared of starting season two that it would disappoint.
The way you're describing the writers developing the story is straight from the writer's room of LOST. The first season of LOST they didn't have any idea how the overall story was going to end. They kept throwing any and everything against the wall to see what would stick, and they also used fan theories to guide them in their narrative.
And then the ending ruined the entire series 😐
And we never found out what the damn smoke monster was. A security system? An actual monster? What the hell does it have to do with them being in Purgatory? I'm getting mad just remembering all of this lol
@@NyneIX9 Exactly! Everytime I tell people that it's the worst finale ever, people always reply... "you just do not understand it". Then I have to break down for them that the sixth season didn't matter, didn't add to the narrative because everyone was dead from the first episode when the bomb went off.

the monsters could be much worse if they could shapeshift into someone you know
they could be looking like any of the characters and play all sorts of tricks
yet they seem to be bound to some definite appearance
also they don’t vandalize anything
they could destroy crops yet they don’t
they are material beings but they can’t be killed and possibly can’t be hurt by conventional weapons
which i don’t understand
if they are material and they look to have soft tissue they can be hurt
even if they regenerate they could be put out of action until the regenerate fully
yet they don’t care if they are shot
M&M, great review as always. To be honest I felt the opposite, wasn’t that interested in the beginning and really became more engrossed as we learned about the characters and the predicament. Totally agree - this feels like a series without a planned ending…
Maybe they didn’t expect all the attention and now they can make season 2 better and with more sense

I watched it. Well made, beautiful to look at. But again same JJ Abrams's mystery of the box storyline. Performance are consistently excellent. Will watch s2, but fingers crossed
Thank you for covering this show. I've been wanting to see this and was contemplating on wether to get epix or not. I heard it's like wayward pines, which the first season was good but the second season went down hill and left you with so many questions.
everything about the shows reminds me of lost and i love it for that. the mysterious suspense buildup with no answer really. a story line that thinly ties in bits n pieces from as more info is bled out. great series so far! hopefully the show is able to play out (financially) so we as viewers/consumers can get the whole story over time. has a very "LOST" delivery vibe. Harold is a solid main character for this type of story and show delivery.

The guy who got blame for his wife and daughter dying made no sense. No one in their right mind would forget to nail their windows shut knowing there are monsters out there that can come inside your house and eat you. It's like a zoo keeper who forgets that the lock on the lion's cage is broken. And the way he found the talisman was underwhelming. You're right, the show rush to introduce other mysteries making the night monsters not so frightening anymore.
Thanks for the review. I just recently starting binge watching this show and wanted to get others insight on what's happening and what does it all mean. It's interesting that you say is it possible purgatory that they are going through. But my theory is a bit different. I see this show as a view of mental health. Everyone is from different areas across the map, but all are suffering in this dismal place. To me the tree in the road is like a mental block that you just can't get around even though you try going in a different direction. Even going the straight and narrow path, hoping it will lead you out only causes you to go around in circles. To me the monsters represent negative thoughts and their only way in is if you let them in. They seem non threatening at first, even familiar, but if you allow them in or get too close they become ravenous, tearing you apart and allowing more to come in and attack. A lot of the characters are dealing with something mentally - grief (the sheriff, the family in the RV, more recently the Asian lady that runs the diner), dementia - the older Asian man in the first couple of episodes, schizophrenia - the young white girl that works at the diner, possibly even the software genius dude, childhood trauma - the guy that's been there forever. Resentment and anger from the sheriff's son. So forth and so on, and sometimes I feel not everyone there has serious mental issues, but that their loved ones bring them down the same rabbit hole because they are attached to them and care. Speaking of rabbit holes, I feel the wife is constantly digging a deeper hole literally and figuratively trying to figure out things on her own, while her husband is trying to reach out for help ( ie. the radio tower). The priest to me represented the faith element, but even he was harboring shame and guilt and felt that others should suffer and be punished for their sins. The box represents prison or solitary consignment - no real place for reform, just torture especially mentally. The difference between the town and Colony is their approach to living in a dismal place, the town is known to follow the rules, adapt to life the way it is and try and live a civil close to normal life as you can or live in Colony where you live like there is no tomorrow and go with the flow and be a free spirit as best you can. Just started watching season 2, interested to see what happens.;)
Although it looks a bit scarier than our usual threshold, its' got the perfect theme song and we liked Perrineau in The Rookie, so will def give this a go, cheers Chris!

Ok, we're 3 eps in & really enjoying it. A bit concerned about your 'going nowhere' comments, but hopefully they get a 2nd season to iron it out and don't go the way of The Lost and similar shows.

Excellent summary. Although I think there are adequate clues that the creatures possess some manner of telepathy. And due to the lack of soot, I think Boyd's in an oubliette rather than a chimney. But something that keeps bugging me is: how did Sara get home after she sliced up the guy at the hospital? I was well dark at that point. I'm not convinced, yet, that she went into the tree behind Boyd at all. However, if the creatures gave her a pass that night in ep2, it would suggest a link between the voices and the creatures.

I have been glue to my tv on this series!!! I hope it gets a second season that is more organized in terms of script, but it has so much potential!! Right now we are standing in the middle of cryptozoology, aliens, cosmic horror I mean is divided in so many possible outcomes!! Thank you for your review I love this channel!! About the trees: Victor very clearly says there are many of them and that you never know where you will end up if you jump in one.

I appreciated the "huge massive assumption on my part" right after ;D "the Vampires using telepathy?" "*Baffling"* is the most correct description! lol! So the writers are expecting a ton of patience from its viewers? You are 100 percent correct of many examples of series of this genre, having left fans 'cheated' without rhyme or reason, nor a satisfying conclusion? Good balanced review! :)
This is a really good show. Unfortunately, many sci-fi shows don't tend to last that long, but I truly hope this one makes it.
What a great review. I'd never heard of this show. At this point, I don't want to make the investment in most shows - until they end... for all the reasons you describe. This is a reason I enjoy "limited" series. I've seen so many shows that lose focus and become diluted. I prefer a shorter focused narrative that has an end. If the series is popular and open to continuation - great.
All this typed, this show intrigues me... but I'm going to give it a wait to see if it ends and how it sticks the landing. It sounds like a good premise that had a so-so execution. Hopefully, it gets better and ends when it needs to.

The way the faraway trees work, is that they don’t send you to different locations, they send you to the same place in space but the town and forest move constantly, that’s why you end up in different places

@@gastonadduco5519 that's possible that he didn't use a tree. If he didn't though that means there's another man's of travel in the space. I think the visions are things that happened in the past. Also that cave being immune is quietly a big deal.

I've actually really enjoyed From. It's hard for me to be enthusiastic about tv shows today, but was hooked from the beginning - love Donna (mother figure with PTSD episodes), am upset that the priest died 😭 and have deep affections for Kenny, his mum, Boyd, Victor and Ethan... the creepy smiles of the 'human' versions of the monsters give me shivers, so yes, I'd like there to be a Season 2, because I want to know who's on the bus, why Boyd's trapped in the chimney, and who's dying next 😂😱😂

FROM starts off incredibly strongly, and the series is peppered with some great acting and intriguing story beats. I’m afraid, however, that the writers are working with no real endgame in sight. It feels like they’re just making up new crap every few episodes to keep the viewers engaged until the next episode. I liked it, but I’d have preferred they simply told a solid, satisfying story over the course of 10 episodes rather than trying to string viewers along. 😕
I just started watching it fumbling thru Amazon Prime for a new series to watch. So far loving it as only on about Ep4. It seems intriguing and mysterious so far. I was also very sure that I thought as I was watching the show I saw something saying Season 2 drops around April 21st 2023.

Great review, Chris! Exactly the sense I got from the series. I'll wait to see how season two pans out and if any of those answers come. If the series literally didn't answer a single question in it's first season and it's finale, that would definitely raise concern that the showrunners do not know what they're doing. There are some series that would have benefited by maintaining the mystery a bit longer (Archive 81 for one, though now that it's canceled nothing matters. UGH)....but a series needs to reward it's audience with some answers along the way as well as new questions. Failure to do so raises flags of showrunners that don't know what they are doing.
Agreed! I don't want or need all the answers, but just one or two before introducing even more gives me faith that the writers have a roadmap they're following!

Hopeful that "From" is not doing the same thing "Lost" did... Introducing more and more situations and questions and totally ignoring other questions that were already brought up. It got frustrating.
I thought the same thing MM thought when I watched "Lost" ...that the writers didn't know where the story was going. And it did get more and more convoluted.
I'm two episodes away from finishing season 1 and so far it's not quite as bad as "Lost" was in that sense. I hope it doesn't totally go off the rails.

I discovered this show last weekend. I already binged the 1st season and I'm up to date with season 2.
From is similar to Lost in many ways. I just hope all the questions we have don't reveal disappointing answers like in Lost.
In regards to the creatures. They can be whatever the creators choose them to be. However, based on the supernatural and mythology, these creatures share more characteristics to D&D and mythological Dopplegangers than any other creature. Dopplegangers live in a alternate dimension similar to earth. So in a sense, these are aliens.
They shapechange into humans"almost" perfectly. I say almost, bc all if them smile like creepy weirdos. They have pale almost formless features. They're lazy, hence why they don't run. They sleep in dark cavernous areas, and they're intelligent.
As for the town, I'm still hopeful it is or was a real town that's somehow been moved into an alternate dimension separate from earth. And this dimension is the home of these creatures. Or, the creatures arrived in our dimension, and somehow shielded the town from the outside world. The tree is the big clue that makes me believe it can be one or the other.
Also, I do not believe these Doppleganger creatures are in charge or the most powerful of beings in the town. I believe the creatures are the foot soldiers if you will.
The entities who communicate with Sara sound like they're using some sort of psionic mental telepathy that could turn out to be Mind Flayers, If we're talking D&D and science fiction.
The visions Jade and Tabitha are shown also could be projected by these psionic minded entities.
I'd love to get some answers to our questions bc this season started off with even more questions than how the 1st season ended.
Oh, let's not forget Boyd being infected with these parasites. Please, oh please don't let the creatures be former humans that turned into tgese creatures due to parasites. That would be lame. Lol.
They aren't already dead, the priest specifically says that they were already THERE before the crash occurred and kept going in loops. It literally tells us that this theory aint it.
Love this show. Just hope they answer some old questions while asking new questions instead of asking questions and never any answers

But first of all Buoyd the spelling on the boat key he held in his hand.
Buoyd is the Sheriff and leader of this town. He has adopted a belief in Sara from his travels and similar trust!
I think Buoyd should make Sara Mrs. Stevens the second that way the town’s people will renew trust in her besides she’s hot!
Beside it was a welt on Sara’s left arm……give yourself to Buoyd immediately……..
Yes Tom the bartender was the voice and there are several other moles that support him.
Donna has gone soft after her leadership of Colony House was challenged by the vampire predictors who only killed (14) fourteen even Sara is closing in on that number.
Victor knows a lot but has difficulty communicating with everyone with the exception of Ethan and a can of peaches.
Kenny will win over Kristi as her fiancée on the Grand Rapids bus is about to freak out and possibly end her out life.
Fatima will get married to Ellis and give birth to twins.
Julie is jealous of Fatima’s relationship to Ellis but she’s only fifteen.
Jade has a connection to Kenny’s Mom Mrs. Lu as she reminds him of his Grandmother from France.
Jim is about to change the mission from escape Fromville to find my wife Tabitha and when he discovers her with Victor Jim will beat the peaches out of Victor and steal his crayons and lunchpail but only after he chokes the Potato Moonshine out of Tom.
Who’s going to have the job of taking care of all the animals at the barn now that Nathan has been laid off by Sara.
I wonder who hung Eric not a suicide but a murder by the Colony House trouble maker and thorn in Donna’s side smart mouth.

I am kinda cynical about this show, despite enjoying this first season. It's just this feeling that it's going to go nowhere, and it's just going to turn into Lost.
When Tabitha and the preacher had the "Are we dead?" talk, it felt like the showrunners were talking to the audience, trying to convince us that it's not LOST all over again.

I liked your review. I also liked the comments. (Made me think...) OK, I don't really know where I'm going with this, however, It somehow seemed that when someone died, another person or people showed up. When colony house was attacked someone said they had lost 14 people. Then at the end a bus load of people show up... It seems like there are elements of this through the series. In the beginning some people die and others arrive. What it all means remains to be seen. I kind of like the casting though. It provided many different personalities to interact with. I'm just hoping they give some answers or at least some good clues as to what in the world is going on! I've lost a lot of interest in horror lately, but this show hits the 'Creepyness' button quite well!
Im watching this with my wife and she HATES horror stories, but this one shes so intrigued by that she watches this with her eyes sometimes closed 😅
I just came from binging season 1 and I like this series. Didn't know this was the same people that did lost. So hoping they learned from that and do a better job. I do agree later on they do forget about the threat of the creatures later on so hopefully season 2 corrects that, but I'm liking this series a lot
i get EPIX off & on, is NOT that kinda streaming services keep it for good , is nothing there , but watched this series & saw the last episode last Sunday , was ok to me is mystery, abit horror & drama to it , just no climax & clear up some here & there , kinda peachy in last episode , nothing answered a bit & confuse u more ..f***ked up a bit ... my FAV shows in Epix ...War of the worlds, Pennyworth, Chapelwaite & cant wait FOR Billy the Kid series in 2 weeks, see what's is that one about!

Ok so the series aired in the uk this week , not sold on the vampire part just yet , I’m moving towards Fae they deal in pocket realms you can wonder into them from anywhere the feeding could be more about the sensation in the prey this creates , they walk everywhere to draw out the terror as long as possible , the feeding was more about ripping into the body and getting to the organs , there is both light and dark fae so this could explain the boy in white as well as the hounds
The talismans could be made from cold iron something fae cannot stand
They can enter houses without being invited but not if a talisman is also present , the fae were also known to sleep under the ground
Over all I’m leaning towards fae rather than vampires but I’ll wait and see

Not at all torn. LOVE the show and there were about a million Easter eggs that point to a very well built world here.

I agree with you that new episodes don’t answer anything. I don’t mind if they don’t get out or progress but they are not showing the human psyche of suffering in these conditions. Like the sheriff said, adapt. But they are not showing how to.

I love this show. Harold Perrineau is a great actor too. When I heard it felt like lost I had to watch it. Starting season 2 now. Also, it's filmed in Nova Scotia which is cool. If this is at all like Lost, I got a little worried when you said you were hoping for more of a story arc in season 2 in order to give it a higher score. Lost basically did that, kept you guessing and feeling lost at all times.
I agree. He was good in that one too. He was also good in OZ.
It was a good show, but not great. Merely entertaining. I doubt they will give this a second season.
I really love this show. I kinda get like cabin in the woods vibes. Where they throw these monster at you. See who survived. Then if you go to far. Then they throw other monsters at you. Like the spider. I feel like there someone behind the curtain. Orchestrating the whole thing. I feel like this whole is a maze. Like that guy was talking about, that he does maze for a living. But overall, I wish this show get attention it deserves. Instead of falling under the radar.
I think the fallen tree moves around to direct people on the "road" to the own. I don't know if the town moves around like a circus. Or is that road acts like a portal that transports them to the town and then they are stuck because they keep driving through a portal that keeps them on that same road. I'm guess the portal is where you see that thick line. You can see if in the trailer if you want to check it out.

Another day, another streaming service
This was a brilliant first season in my opinion. I am a huge fan of LOST, and have been searching for something similar for years (with no luck).
LOST wasn't purgatory, but had a similar amount of questions emerge in it's first few seasons, surrounded by well developed characters and very few answers.
FROM seems to be following suit, the location is an enigma, we don't know anything about it (yet), and neither do the characters - and THIS is what I like to see in a TV Show. So long as the characters are well written, diverse, and act realistically - it becomes thrilling to watch.
Looking forward to seeing where it heads, and I agree that if the series gets cancelled, then we frustratingly miss out on getting the answers. However, it is a risk we're choosing to take, considering the show has not finished yet. We KNOW it could get cancelled, but they shouldn't have to reveal all the answers early on JUST incase.

@@redemptionlibera9758 Yellowjackets is ok so far, but personally I like sci-fi over supernatural shows. Besides Dark, which I consider one the all-time best ssi-fi shows, we have Severance, Outer Range, Silo just came out, and unfortuntatly Raised by Wolves and 1899 were canceled. June 2 final part of Manifest is released, but I don't like this one.

at the end,of the show.the nurse,girlfriend pulled up on the bus.remember the nurse,telling the sheriff.she just bought bus tickets for her and her girlfriend.that's the day she,got to that place. I think her girlfriend found the tickets stub and made way there too find the her at that place.
This is the first show in a long time I did not really want to watch at night. Something about it worried me.
