Nice work 👍.. you should try the 3 wheel carpet tucker it is a really good tool
Luis Arias That is one I’ve definitely been thinking about
@@luisarias7323 I have one of those cpt tuckers and they are awesome it saves a bunch of time
How many yards can you lay in a day? Just curious trying to compare my speed to yours.
@@luisarias7323 I agree but nothing beats a stair tool depending on the base
Really make things easier on yourself double strip all the walls your stretching into. Golden key to making your life easier. Don't worry about a little extra strip expense. Dude knows how to stretch.
Thank you
Some of my basic tips( we all know flooring installers are well off the rails )
-No hard drugs Mon-Fri
-Give yourself some sleep
-Stop eating unhealthy
-Limit caffeine use
-Drink water when you're thirsty at work not some other fluid
-Do stretches before and after work
-Use knee pads and general PPE, its not 1950 anymore wear safety gear!
-Always have good posture while you're on the floor
-Don't be a cowboy
I think a lot of installers need to focus on these simple things before trying to think about other ways to speed up their day.
Love this, thank you for sharing
Thanks for this. I am having carpet installed soon and this helps me prepare and understand what will happen! Good work!
You’re welcome, I hope your job turns out beautiful
I installed carpet with a guy for about 3 months and he ran around like a madman.
We did a commercial job of like 100 apartments in this student housing development and we'd have up to 5 half finished rooms done and having me run back and forth pointlessly instead of just doing one at a time.
I ended up getting a factory job but I feel like I learned enough on the job to do it on my own. I've never used a power stretcher or done a seam but I watched him a million times and with the information you've provided in your videos I'm making the plunge to owning my own business and working for myself.
Going to order a iron this week and practice on seams using the scrap carpet I took from working with him.
Within the next few weeks I'll buy a power stretcher and the rest of the tools I need.
Thanks a lot for your well explained videos!
Thats good to hear im a trainee myself. How will you get jobs? And yes practice in your own home do it once a day and youll get better in no time. Also dont stop watching videos!
I leave my tools all over the place, lol. I really gotta get a system going.
J McCormick 😂😂 It sure saves a lot of time
Thank you so much 😊 I’m and apprentice carpet layer just in my second year
That’s nice to hear, just keep at it and keep learning my friend
Thanks for your generosity in sharing your talents. I have begun installing new carpet in my house. Did a 14 stair staircase, now going to do our master bedroom. I used to install carpet professionally back in the 70's and 80's. Still have my tools, except for power stretcher. I rent from Home depot for that. I am no spring chicken, but I take my time and it is enjoyable work. I miss working with my hands. Been in IT for the last 25 years.
+Lloyd Frazier 😀👍
Thanks man,the best floor videos on UA-cam I watch every single video you post.
Thank you I really appreciate your support, and I Hope these videos help
I like how efficient and organized you are. Nice job Ruben.
+teh60 Thank you sir
Thanks
Ruben Mv you’re welcome
I'm glad some one is using the proper tool. I see so many using the kicker thinking the carpet is stretched and really those guys jyist make the rest of us look bad
Yup you’re right
You are a true craftsman. Nice work.
Thank you sir
Been watching you so long now I don't think you can teach me much more when it comes to using the stretchers! Lol I just really enjoy watching you doing your jobs and the journey you've been on since moving back to be closer to your family and now building your studio for all your upcoming videos. So excited 😀
+sausage man Thanks for watching Dave, I appreciate it, hope you’re doing well, thank you for the comment
@@FloorsbySouthernboys no problem brother. You work just like me always thinking ahead trying to save stress on my body while I'm young so I'm not a broken man in 10yrs!! Shame I'm not over the pond where you are we would work well together!!🇺🇸🤑
sausage man Smart thinking Dave
20 plus years installing carpet vinyl and pre finished flooring mostly residential with a little commercial and vct. dig the videos. i can smell the new carpet smell watching videos. luckily not the animal piss of nasty carpet lol.
Love your channel by the way always informative...👍
Thank you sir
Great video man. I've always been given up on my power stretcher just because I wasn't maybe experienced anough but this video helped out man. Thanks
Alex Cleroux Hey that is great, really like hearing stuff like that, good luck on your future installs and thank you for the comment
This was one of my favorites. Thank you sir.
Jeffrey Peterson That’s great, I hope it’s beneficial, thanks for watching and thank you for your feedback
All of your videos have been beneficial. I'll be thinking about these tips today as I move through the day and I'll have some fun with that.
Jeffrey Peterson Awesome
Pack up your seaming box I'll get in the way. Having to adjust the stretcher head like that instead of the pushing the adjustment is really helpful! 15:36
+Christian Wilson Awesome, I hope this helps
You are very respectable. You are a master of your craft. You have very comprehensive knowledge and experience. Thanks for sharing sir
Wajeeh Huweih Thank you, I hope these videos are helping you
Sure they are helping
Far Out! I learned a lot from this video. Thank you man.
Paul Niebergall Awesome, you’re welcome
Been laying carpet over 30 years.
Did notice you threw your scrap pieces of carpet in 4 different places.
I throw them all in the same spot.
That way there touched once before scrapp’in up.
Interesting using your foot to release the stretch. I’ve just used the side of my knee.
Also, must say should have had the ramp for the transition done before ya started stretching. Could have finished all that carpet and not had to go back.
Phil Hotchkin This is my personal house, so not a big deal
This guy is a professional.
National Tradesman Thank you sir
Awesome video! The right tools working well pays you back 10 fold. Plus it makes it fun to work with when you're not fighting your tools haha
+Floored Thank you, and yes you’re right
Best Carpet Installation Video Period
So helpful to teach new installers (and stubborn old installers) on how to fly through an install but still keep the great quality of work.
+Gold Coast Flooring thank you Nick, I think it’s actually harder to teach those stubborn old installers rather than it is a new installer LOL
I never liked or used a spreader. I do it like you do.
I always kick it onto the tackstrip after the initial long stretch. Not a hard kick, but enough to hook it. I've never seen trimming before hooking on the strip.
...yes, slugs move faster than me.
I like your advanced tool placement thoughts. I sorta do that, but not so thoroughly.
Are usually have my stretchers close enough to the tack strip so that I do not have to kick into the pins after a stretch, that’s just one less thing to do, however I have seen lots of people do that
Cool tips thanks.
your welcome
Good tipo bro I do the same no spinning laps
I know each installer does it different but i don't like stretching off corners like that. Specially with the foot. I've seen people blow out the wall or pop base boards. But thats just me. Keep up the good work
Thanks
U can tuck most carpet in with the wall trimmer ... just use the metal "tab" and run it right down the top of the carpet
Good video my friend!! GBU
marlon portillo thank you
Good job
Thank you sir
I'm not gonna lie when I first started installing , I was the guy running back and forth because I left my kicker over here and my stair tool over. Lol. It's like chess predict the next move .👍
yup then it just becomes part of the routine
Hell I still do that..run clear other side of project to grab whatever..buy the time I get ther i forgot what i come to get..so go back to wher I was workin an then realize what i went to get an back i go..
Jeremy Gibson 😮
Hi pal... i seen in one of your videos you had on large white knee pads what brand are they?
philip higgins proknee
so when you lay in a rectangle room how do you stretch the whole thing process stretch the width first then stretch long ways
Hi ruben do you supply the kneeless stretcher?
Afraid not but here is a link
kneeless.com/
@@FloorsbySouthernboys can i only buy from that site
I like how people powerstrech and don’t even have the stretcher up close to the tack strip and use a kicker to push the carpet up
+CarpetGuy 1970 yeah I know, makes no sense
CarpetGuy 1970 lol right
Great video if you can please make a video on how to cut stripe carpet for stairs I’d appreciate it, literally looked high and low and there are NO VIDEOS!!!
i will see what i can do , i never ever install stripe carpet
Hey
Do you have a link for cleaning power stretcher poles?
I tried looking can’t seem to find it.
ua-cam.com/video/SdvtmmpYGp4/v-deo.html
1:30. That's so funny you mention putting your tools down where you are going to be lol I find myself ALL THE TIME stretching to reach for my stuff once I move. I dont know why I keep doing that.
😂😂🤣 It will become habit if you start doing it intentionally and then before long you won’t even have to think about it you’ll just be doing it
That's a habit I'd like to have. Its nice to talk with other flooring installers. I feel im still a youngin in the flooring game. I'm 33 and I started in my early 20's but I know theres always more to learn. How come you dont use the spike on your power stretcher brother?
Was this floor done on concrete or you just dont use the spike
@@broglang9102 I do not use a spike
@@broglang9102 I just never liked the fact of gouging a big hole in the carpet, also if there is hardwood floors under the carpet you are damaging them also it is really bad for particleboard, just really never cared for the spike
Good video..heres another trip..leave ur carpet a bit longer goin up the wall..your trimmer will cut even better
kcm731k Thank you for sharing that, you’re absolutely correct
You and I sure think a lot alike! I just can't get the foot release down I half to use my knee lol!
shawn moore LOL, thanks for watchingShawn thank you for your feedback
shawn moore you in burley to lol 🌧
@@jerridhawkins8133 hey buddy, ya was doing job for primary theropy lol!
Yea I seen ya. We were doing a job for Lee’s furniture
How much do you stretch the carpet? Just to get the waves out or as tight as you can get it?
StefSkiDad Well not as tight as I can get it but absolutely more than just to get the waves out, the carpet does not start stretching until it is pull tight then it starts stretching, I just judge by the feel of the pressure on the stretcher and know when it’s good
I have helpers that can’t get the concept of how to set up the stretcher and they Ben with me for years I set up just like you
CarpetGuy 1970 Yeah, it definitely takes longer to sink in on some people
Ben?🤣😂🤣
J Heise 😮
Would agree with 80% of this. But hey, we know every layer has his own ways....by far one of the best vids ive seen on youtube. Nice vid man 👌🍻
😀😀😀thank you
Why aren’t you using the trimmer to set and rake?
Do you need a carpet stretcher for installation?
Yes
To do it right yes
Is the carpet hessian back. Just asking floor layer my self.
+Andy Garner ?
What's on the backing of the carpet. Sponge hessian etc
Andy Garner it is just a regular action back
Very informative video
Thanks
Walther 1983 Thank you, glad you enjoyed it
How bout a video about your trimmer ajustment?
Please
+In Fupa We Trust Have you seen my video titled Carpet trimmer 101, that should help
I your prime how many sq yards could you stretch in with tear up and furniture in one day with a helper? Just curious!
Tom.S 80s I’m not sure, me and Jerry did 268 yards of Berber With steps and furniture and tear out once
That must been long azz day
Jeremy Gibson yup
Wow that's good! I'm still green behind the ears, but I'm learning from a great installer we do about 130 sq yards w/ take up and furniture in 6-7hrs
Tom.S 80s That’s really good, if you learn well it’ll stick with you
Is it easier to install carpet if there’s no baseboard Moulding?
gyver471 It is actually easier to install carpet when the baseboard is installed about a half inch off the floor
"Watch the foot" SENT MEEEE🤣🤣🤣🤣
👍👍
Love the video! I am struggling with my seams though.
+Peter Blue I have a ton of videos on carpet seaming
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I have watched almost all of them. When I seam sometimes it will be smooth but then it will kinda bow up in the middle but it is not over lapped. Is it getting to hot?
Peter Blue Quite possible, however if you row cut your seams there is a good chance that the row will not be straight and that actually happens quite often, the seamer down now Is great for instances just like that
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I am row cutting and having to use my kicker to get it tight. I will get the steamer down now and try that. Thank you for responding!
Peter Blue Well be sure to use one of my Amazon links LOL
Nice work I like the way you explain work, pls can you send me a video of installing carpet from the floor to the pad and finally the rugs.also the doorway carpet installation to avoid door getting stuck while opening
frank ike I always remove doors when I install, I have multiple videos on installing carpet pad and then also numerous amount of videos on how to install carpet, but I will sometime in the near future Do a video of installing a room of carpet start to finish, that should help, thank you for watching and thank you for your feedback
Obviously for wood subfloors, what are your thoughts on a spike tail worth the investment?
beastmoode24 I have never used, I just can’t think it’s OK to poke pencil size holes in the carpet
What Rubin said
Jeremy Gibson 👍
Thay are awesome to use my part of the country all the carpet installers use them Big Time Saver I even power stretch little closets
How many yards can you install per day by yourself?
Mister Waji Well that depends on a lot of factors, a new construction house with a plush carpet , I could easily do over 100 yards, just here a while back I was doing some houses new construction that were 80 yards and done by 2 o’clock, getting started around 9 AM
@@FloorsbySouthernboys nice goin thats decent. whats the yardage rates where you are. i charge £5 PSY
Chris Mourant $4.05
At 6:58 you said trimmer and what? When I started doing carpets they taught me how it was called but I never knew how it's written so I just have been calling it how I heard it, which is "startul".
Stair tool
Stairtool
Good video man very helpful. When I’m stretching a room I put my stair tool in my back pocket and then hang trimmer from it. I wouldn’t keep it there while walking through the house for fear of it falling on someone’s hard wood but as long as your over carpet it works and I’ve gotten used to it
Michael Love That is pretty cool, and thank you I’m glad you enjoyed the video
why dont you use your spreader to catch your stretch anymore?
ok watched all of your video. geuss i have been using spreader over 40 yrs just easier to me
Stephen Boyd Just can never get used to it
Ya I always used it..how I was taught..but didnt have it few times an tried hands..deff sucks on cheap thin rug..ouch..but should give another try..better for your hands an such..but everyone is diff..that's why I love watch floorsouthersddude.ruben the man..only one I've seen do it right way..an i have picked up few pointers as well..an i would love to show him few diff things he could do..ive worked with 5 diff installers..an it's been nice to pick up diff techniques..
Jeremy Gibson Yeah a lot of times on the thin Cheap carpet I will fill the carpet back down and actually put on the banking, that way I have two layers of carpet and don’t poke my self, and I am totally down for learning new stuff, I really enjoy that
Why dont use a stinger?
smash that like button
Fish Buritto YEAH!!!
Good stuff from a veteran floor dude. But, no need to be in a big hurry. I'm 50 now. Take your time. Be good charge more. Lay less. Do hard surface. Only carpet when you have to.
I do not use my fingers to push the carpet on the pins . Rusty pissy tack strip. Make shire you have some vinle for ramping . No time is saved if you have to come back.
JT 👍
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Jerrid Hawkins 😀thanks
👍🏻
CarpetMan Thanks, appreciate your thumbs up, thank you for watching
Why the carpet stretcher you dont need it, by the time you got your stretcher into the room and set up I would of had that carpet fitted
Weak... just give me the kicker! I can kick out a 30 footer with ease. I can have this room stretched in a couple of minutes or so. Beast mode!
Man! We ain't working by the hour....🤣
Y dont you stretch whole room then cut n tuck room the time you take cutting and tucking then going back to strech other side you could've had the room stretched
Just curious my father n law does the same thing i dont get it we argue about it all the time by the time he's done i have stretched cut tucked and on to the next rm
i just prefer doing it this way
nice
👍
Thats how i do it too.
Stair tool. Carpet bolster in english
+Andy Garner 😀👍
We call it tomper here.👍🤣
Jeremy Gibson Where are you located
Ohio..bye cedar point
Norwalk raceway park..well it's called summit motorsports park now..
Work smarter not harder
+CarpetGuy 1970 Absolutely
You waste a bunch of time trimming the carpet they way you do. I stretch everything then cut everything afterwards, saves so much time and is more efficient. This method is just to much work, work smarter
😀👍
And one more thing those crabstrechers are junk
CarpetGuy 1970 😀👍
You obviously dont know how to use the crab strecher lol
David Hill 😮
