Ah, Barbara. I live down here too. We have the same name, are the same age and left home for Vancouver at the same age. It's amazing to run across this video of you at this time. I had one son. He was 33 when he died a year and a half ago. I'm lost too. Fortunately, hard drugs never spoke to me. I tried them in my teens and lost interest fast. I had deep trauma that caused me to run away and stay away from my family. But it was the creative work I was doing and weed that spoke to me. I know that differences in my brain and upbringing may be the only reason I'm not living the same life as you. I hope I meet you and can say hello. I've wanted to walk more around the hood. Been here so long just lost interest in going out much. Now the weather is warmer ... maybe we'll cross paths one day. :)

Please note: several things my mother said are inaccurate or fully not the truth. But with my mom’s level of trauma and addiction she had to believe what she needed to believe in order to cope and survive.
I loved my mom, but she hurt me. And due to my mother’s level of sickness I did not trust her around my children - I have three and she never met any of them ( none are in foster care).
I had hoped my mom would get better by getting clean and doing the hard work through treatment which had to happen in order to be a safe person to have around my children, unfortunately that never happened.

Addiction is so destructive---Govt really needs to build more places for help where people can live and get them slowly integrated into society again!!! Instead if sending billions to other countries we need to fix our own people first!!!🤨🤨

People choose their own happiness (lifestyle) over their children. It’s extremely difficult to empathize.
She’s angry at her parents for giving her up and wants her closure, but she did the same to her kids?
    This is the problem.
Same as my own mother. Consumed with herself. Her kids were an afterthought. A hinderance..

Parents of old were not perfect either but I believe they tried do do the best they could with what and how they were taught.
I respected my parents till their death and I have accepted they had no concept of the psychology of a child's mind.
If you dig deep enough, you will learn, accept and turn the negative to a positive.

Had she had a mother who truly loved her, she would not have been lost to the streets. Being a mother means sacrifice. We do what we must to protect and nurture our children, regardless of personal cost. I'm not what you would describe as liberal by any means, but I feel deep compassion for people whose lives took a terrible downward trajectory due to rejection as children. So much suffering for so long. I pray she finds redemption and a new life.

It’s unfortunate but she’ll need to let her family go for her own sake. She’s been made to feel that she’s the problem when the fact is most definitely that she had parents who were disconnected to begin with. They were likely dictators bullies narcissists and addicts themselves that’s why her shelter was always used as a threat these attitudes intentionally ruin independence. Her instincts knew that, that’s why she ran away. She needs to pull herself together and fight for herself it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks. She needs a women’s shelter that will empower her position.
