I watched your tut this morning :) Thanks for sharing! I just made pj's today with the cuff and I love it! I'm 66 yrs old (pj's for me)and my granddaughter loves them.
You are DEFINITELY a sewing girl! My mother is a quilter with all the 8 digital sewing machines. Me? I have a 15 year old Walmart/K-Mart/Target Lawd only knows, but it's more basic than basic machine before hand sewing! Lol! And if I am watching how to sew simple PJ bottoms, you know I have issues! I have only really sewn scrub dresses...that I have down! I appreciate the fact that you did your tutorial with the cuff. I personally like that look better. I also like that you ironed your fabrics and were detailed, but not frighteningly so! Some tutorials are so simple, they kinda look sloppy...others have WAY too many steps. I failed at xmas time making a pair from a pattern that included pockets. Never. Ever. Again!
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Funny how things like sewing can skip generations, huh? haha. These are really cute gifts, and we. prefer the simpler patterns because they're much more fun. Let us know how yours go! - Morgan
Great job. When securing the elastic (waist) I stitch a box with an X in the box and that's a sure thing that it will not come undone. I just bought a serger and I'm fixing on making pj pants for everyone. Been watching a lot of tutorials so I'm well informed. Thanks for the tutorials. Great idea for gift giving. We can do a throw size quilt, pillow, and pj bottoms. It's endless what we can do. I started quilting about a year ago and recently started watching garment sewing tutorials as I am a self taught quilter. Thanks again
I recently found your tutorials and I am so hooked. You are so pleasant and nice. I don't have fancy things and I have found so many to be snobbish. Thank you for being kind.

thank you, I have the exact fabric with orange trim and the sisters fabric with a great purple trim for my grandson and granddaughter who will be visiting in August. they will go great with the new quilts I made them to go in the bedroom I'm setting up for them. your tutorial is the best I've seen as I not only just learned to quilt 2 years ago its my first time at tackling sewing. so again thank you so much
That is so great to hear rachelle pare! It is awesome that you are learning so much, so fast- we learn something new every day! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our video and for leaving this kind comment!!
Hi Jennifer, thanks for this pattern. I made a pair of PJs for my adult daughter using your method, back at the beginning of the Summer. It was my first time at making a garment without a commercial pattern. I aded a small button on the side of the leg and a tab on the inside, so that they can be worn long or at three quarter length, I also had a softer cotton which leant itself well to this, also embellished the top with some lace. Thanks again, I always look forward to your next videos.
That is so great to hear +Ornella Day! The idea to add a button to change the length is so clever! Thank you so much for watching and sharing your comment with us!
I just made 3 pairs in about an hour! I didn't have enough elastic so I used the elastic in two pairs of my daughter's outgrown Cat & Jack leggings.. they fit her waist but she has grown an inch.. worked perfectly!
These tutorial projects are helping me to save a lot!!! Now I can try to sew for my grand kids. This will be my second pattern and I am thrill. Thank you.
Thank you. I know this is an older video, just spotted it and it looks so much easier than the pattern I was trying to use (and put away) plus the material I wanted to use wasn't long enough and this solves that problem . Thanks for another good tutorial.
Great video. Much easier than following a pattern and you make it look so easy. I started to make a pair of pjs with flannel fabric but haven't finished putting the elastic in. I can do that now that I watched your video. I did use a serger, which finishes the seams off nicely. Thank you.
Hi Jennifer! Love your fabrics, your patterns, I often go to Shabby Fabrics and dream about getting some, maybe one day... These pajamas are so cute and easy, thank you for sharing, and, you're too cute! :)
Thanks for the kind comment Dot Freel! Unfortunately we do not have a tutorial for that cute pincushion but here is the link to the pattern: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Love-Pinwheel-Pastry-Pattern-P9202.aspx
This is a really great tutorial, makes it so easy. I have made 3 adult pairs so far, but only 1 with a cuff. Super easy and I am using a serger for everything except I use the sewing machine for the waist. Thanks for the inspiration.
They really are so easy to make! Thank you for watching! Let us know how your projects go and if you have a specific project you'd like to see. - Morgan
I think this is my next project, after my quilting and embroidery adventures =) I really do like this idea. It will be fun to experiment on some knit fabrics I have had forever, and to tweak and play with the idea a bit. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your kind comment! There is no tutorial for the pincushion, Grada Lamb, but here is a link to the pattern: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Love-Pinwheel-Pastry-Pattern-P9202.aspx
If you overlap your elastic the same amount as it is wide, ie for 1 inch elastic overlap 1 inch, for 1/2 inch elastic overlap 1/2 inch and sew a box all around it and an "X" in the middle, that elastic will NEVER come apart lol!!! And Jennifer is totally right about how to p[ut the 2 legs together... so much easier than what you did. I used to sew all my daughter' pjs and sweat suits among other things, when she was little. So I am the opposite to you; I've come to quilting from a seamstress background and love your quilting tutorials! Wish I could sew them all!!
so very cute..I have tried them in a different way before and this way looks like it might be a better way in the inseam part...love the little cuff part also!
You can also get a set of standard to king size pillow cases from Walmart and use that for your fabric.. the cuffs are already done so it makes these pajama pants super fast to make if you have a child small enough!
Thanks so much for your tutorial it was very easy to follow I have made several pairs of these now. they are sew cute. thank you thank you. Do you have a easy pj top?
Thank you so much for your kind comment +Louellen Carden! So glad you were able to follow along with the tutorial easily! At the time, we do not have a pajama top tutorial.
Hi Shabby Fabrics, I love watching your video's I make these pants for both Myself and my kids and what I do with the band is I use the same process as the magic roll pillow case so it is flat and smooth on the inside against the skin... they are so comfy and look great :-)
+Shabby Fabrics thank you and no worries. I use that process alot even on a lined skirt that has a small trim on the bottom it keeps everything so neat and tucked in and no need to hem which means it's always straight on the bottom 😊😉
Wow so beautiful & shown alos easy way step by step for us biginers. I love theIdea a nout use the the fiting pant as a pattern, very smart .Saves a lot of time. Lovely.
Yes! For adult pants the process will be the exact same. You will just adjust how much fabric you cut in order to accommodate the extra length for adult legs :)
Thanks for this amazing tutorial! I was really inspired and made loads of these pyjama pants for me and my family I was wondering if you could make a video showing us how to make a matching pyjama shirt if you can thanks so much!!! love all your tutorials!!!
Such a helpful video! Thank you for sharing! Would you consider doing an additional tutorial with the magic pillowcase method for the accent cuff + the easier method(s) mentioned in the comments for bringing together the transition area? It would be the best of all worlds! 😊
Yes, we did make that and we have a pattern available for it on our site! There is only one left! www.shabbyfabrics.com/Love-Pinwheel-Pastry-Pattern-P9202.aspx

When i cut the back part of pants..is it suppose to be longer than the front.part...I often see and hear that the front n back is slightly different..i dont know how to do it...Can you help p[se.Thx for responding..
For this pattern you cut the entire leg at once and there is no front or back of each leg of the pants stels2756! If you follow along with the tutorial, the steps are clear and precise! Hopefully that helps to clear up your question!
@@ShabbyFabrics I am based on the South Coast, South Africa where there is very limited sources for good quality printed fabrics. I'd like to order online but don't know which sites offe amazing fabrics like the ones you use. Any suggestions? Thank u so much for responding.
Loved this tutorial, I already made my first pjs for my daughter. When she tried them on they look bubbly from the front. Is there something I can do to prevent it.
The issue could be that the elastic is too tight causing excess fabric to bunch up +Lupe Lovescrafts. Try to disperse the fabric evenly around the waist and see if that helps the issue!
We recommend the Bernina as this is the sewing machine we use on all of our projects. Here is a direct link to our tutorial on our Bernina. ua-cam.com/video/mg1o419TJL4/v-deo.html If you have any further questions please let me know as I am always happy to help! -Kyla
I have watched several of your videos and have finally put my finger on it...you remind me of Ann Margaret ❤️ Love this video and am ready to cut the fabric for my young daughter's pajama pants. Thank you!
I used "hot" coral and white polka dot flannel with leopard print cuffs on capri length pants. Added a leopard print bow and embroidery appliqued her initial and some hearts on a coordinating tshirt, Odd colors and patterns that turned out adorable! My 9 yr old is wearing them for pj day at school tomorrow. She loves the pants so much has asked me to make more. Thanks again!
do you fold the pattern pajamas so the front is on the inside or the outside - i thought the front and back of pants had different curves? sorry - non sewer here. thanks.

Hello again, You mentioned in the video that we shouldn't baby our fabric and should wash it in hot water. Does this also apply to various blend fabrics? The tag on the fabric says machine wash cold, delicate cycle. Thank you in advance for your guidance:).
We would suggest following the tag on the fabric that you purchased. We can only speak to 100% cotton quilting fabrics like we sell in our shop so it's best to follow the manufacturer's directions :)
you give the best instructions for this garment. you give the basics, shows some choices to dress it up and leads to me to use my imagination. Like those gorgeous silk pjs that are so old the elastic is gone so I don't have to stretch and guess. Don't have to guess at how much to add for waist as I have lost some wait and the crotch is wayyyy to low. Those lovely simi wide legs are great for cotton. you said shrink and I used hot water and hot dryer twice and it shrank. I love the different hems. Hum. I have some dressy cotton for clothes so shorts? clam diggers? Long? now I can do pjs, as well as outer wear. I buy medium weight short sleeve T shirts for pj tops so go to stash and find some prints or solids to compliment. and yep, that pillow to match as well as adding the same edging to a top sheet. You are gifted. I LOVE your vision. Thank you
Hi Jen, they are so, so cute. I love the tutorial. Thank you so much. I have just one question though. I was also thinking of using the Frozen fabric as I have made 4 quilts for my nephew and his friends and I noticed that on ALL the oficial Frozen quilting fabric I have, on the selvages it clearly states that it should NOT be used for children's sleepwear. Does yours say that too? Do you think after washing it hot like you say, it WOULD be OK to use? Please let me know what you think. Thanks again, warmest regards, Conchita
We no longer have this Frozen fabric so I can't check the selvage for the note. Generally, when that note is there it's for safety purposes due to the fabric not being flame resistant. ~Leah🙃
For an adult you would use the same technique that is shown in the video Kim Lettau. The amount of yardage would depend on the pants that you are using as a guide. Also, there would be no pattern because you would use a pair of your favorite pajama pants as a cutting guide for the new pants you are making! Hopefully that helps to clear things up a little bit!
The additional fabric on the bottom of the pant is completely optional and you would use as much or as little fabric as you desire. Hope that makes sense! 💖 -Michelle
Thank you for making things so clear in every demo you do. You're a good teacher! A friend makes a set of flannel PJs for each grandchild each Christmas and she told me that it's sometimes necessary to change the elastic in the waist. So she leaves the back waist open at the seam where the elastic is put in. You have to backstitch on each side of the seam, of course. And you can dab a little fabric glue to stick the loose seam allowance to the wrong side of the fabric on each side of the opening (clear as mud?!! But when you are actually doing it, you'll see what I mean, I hope!) Then if you have to change the stretched-out elastic, you can easily snip and pull out the old e. and slip in the new and secure it, without having to unpick thread to open the waist. Yikes that was hard to explain!!! "One see is worth a thousand hears!
With the simplicity of the pattern for these PJ's, the back was made the same as the front. If you'd like, for accuracy, or comfort reasons, feel free to make the back of the pants a little larger than the front! Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah
Turn one pant leg inside out so the right side of the fabric is on the outside and leave the other pant leg wrong side out. Slip one pant leg into the other ( right sides together) and pin the inseam all around. Then sew the inseam. Turn the pants right side out and continue with the rest of the pants. Easy Peasy!
Love your video (and yes you do look like Anne Margaret) but (and I may be wrong) there is no back and front to these...right. Both pieces were cut identical?
A surger is a machine that finishes edges by trimming extra fabric away while placing a protective stitch to prevent fraying. They are not completely necessary though, because you can just add a zig-zag stitch on any edge where you would use a serger.
+one.million.years.later A serger (spell checkers can't spell this correctly) is the same as an overlock machine. If you want to research it, you'll do better with the correct spelling. He he. You can get one new for around $200. The brother 1043-D has great reviews and I bought one and I'm very happy with it. If you are on a tight budget, check out craigslist because a lot of times they will have good deals. Many people were gifted a serger, or purchased one, but never got up the courage to learn how to use it. So they sell it on craigslist or at a garage sale pretty cheap. Just make sure you take some scraps of fabric with you and test it out to make sure it really works, because there are some dishonest people out there as well.
Cute project. Did you realise that you could add the cuff the same way you do on the Magic pillowcases ??? Then you would have no raw edge at that seam.
So, so cute! These would be great for my grandchildren! I like the idea of matching them with the magic pillowcase!
That will be such a fun gift Karen Lautzenheiser! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment!

The issue could be that the elastic is too tight causing excess fabric to bunch up +Lupe Lovescrafts. Try to disperse the fabric evenly around the waist and see if that helps the issue!
+Shabby Fabrics Thank you!
Amazing! your teaching really impressed me! I will make one pajama for myself.
That is so great to hear! Have fun making this project :)
Way too cute PJ's ❤️ love it 😍
Thanks for the love! Happy you like them!
what sewing machine would you recommend??? because i want to create it but obviously im a beginner so idk where to start!!
Thank you!
Haha that is so funny! Glad you figured out! Thank you so much for watching our videos and commenting!
Thanks again!
do you fold the pattern pajamas so the front is on the inside or the outside - i thought the front and back of pants had different curves? sorry - non sewer here. thanks.
Hi Aagranna - We folded our pants with the front in, prior to tracing. Hope this helps! -Michelle
What about fleece with cold New Hampshire weather fast approaching?
Fleece or flannel would be perfect for cold weather! We're getting ready for that here in North Idaho, too. - Morgan

hi jennifer.............love your lessons...
+laijin kj thank you so much for watching and commenting!
Hai, you are my best teacher. I love you 😙
+samira samsam thank you so much for the love and kind words!
you give the best instructions for this garment. you give the basics, shows some choices to dress it up and leads to me to use my imagination. Thank you
Those are all great ideas! Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah
Adorable!
Thank you for the kind comment Dreama Diana!
~Leah🙃
I just made these for my little girl and they’re so cute!
That is so awesome to hear!! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the tutorial! :D x
Is beautiful, I really loved it, greetings from Mexico.
+cesi ponce thank you so much for watching all the way from Mexico!
How can you make these for adults? Yardage and pattern?
For an adult you would use the same technique that is shown in the video Kim Lettau. The amount of yardage would depend on the pants that you are using as a guide. Also, there would be no pattern because you would use a pair of your favorite pajama pants as a cutting guide for the new pants you are making! Hopefully that helps to clear things up a little bit!
I do the cuffs like the magic pillowcase.
What a great idea!
I'm envious of your home haberdashery!
Thanks! Merry Christmas! 🎄
How much fabric we need for the co ordination ?
The additional fabric on the bottom of the pant is completely optional and you would use as much or as little fabric as you desire. Hope that makes sense! 💖 -Michelle
PS - that large pin cushion on your ironing mat looks interesting. One of yours? Tutorial? (asks cheekily)
It is a pattern we sell +Ornella Day! Here is the link: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Love-Pinwheel-Pastry-Pattern-P9202.aspx
Hi! loving your tutorial! can't wait to try this! question, what kind of sewing machine are you using?
+Patricia Bennett this particular machine is unfortunately discontinued! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment!
Shoot! I know you probably can't name the brand, but is it comparable to a Janome?
This worked so much cause tommorows pijama day at school!!!😜
That is so awesome to hear LPS Kate! Glad we could be of service :) Thank you so much for watching!
That is a great idea! Thank you so much for sharing :)
Thank you ....i love your videos.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!
awesome tutorial...thank you! :)
Thank you so much- glad you enjoyed it!
Very cute!
Aren't they darling?! -Kyla
Wow thanks so much for sharing
You are so welcome! Let us know how yours turn out! - Morgan
It looks like you made the front and the back the same. Doesn't the back need to be made a little larger than the front?
With the simplicity of the pattern for these PJ's, the back was made the same as the front. If you'd like, for accuracy, or comfort reasons, feel free to make the back of the pants a little larger than the front! Merry Christmas! 🎄~Leah
its very nice way of making pajama i like it
Thank you so much!
Love them! I want to make them for me.
+Molly Serkin you most certainly can! Just use your favorite pajamas as the pattern!
I love this!!!
+sdeeley1949 thank you so much for watching and for the love!
so if I don't put a cuff I have to hem it??
Yes, if there is no cuff, you will have to finish the hem at the bottom :)
Turn one pant leg inside out so the right side of the fabric is on the outside and leave the other pant leg wrong side out. Slip one pant leg into the other ( right sides together) and pin the inseam all around. Then sew the inseam. Turn the pants right side out and continue with the rest of the pants. Easy Peasy!
Yes! We love this method! We actually learned of this after the video was filmed ;) Thank you so much for sharing it with us!
Love your video (and yes you do look like Anne Margaret) but (and I may be wrong) there is no back and front to these...right. Both pieces were cut identical?
Correct! Thanks for the love and for watching :)
What is a surger????
A surger is a machine that finishes edges by trimming extra fabric away while placing a protective stitch to prevent fraying. They are not completely necessary though, because you can just add a zig-zag stitch on any edge where you would use a serger.
Is this just like the safety stitch of an overlock stitch or overlock sewing machine?! Did I get this right?
You are excellent you explain it so easy I am going to make one for myself thank you bs
Glad this tutorial has inspired you. Thank you for watching! 💖 -Michelle
Cute project. Did you realise that you could add the cuff the same way you do on the Magic pillowcases ??? Then you would have no raw edge at that seam.
That is a GREAT tip! Thanks for sharing that with us :)
Beautiful
Thank you so much! :)
i will try this right now...! thank you, it was very useful
Have fun making the PJ's +Xiomara Canizales and thank you for watching!
Great video, can't wait to try my hand at these. I have een making PJ's for my G's and wanted to add some flair to my g'dauther's. thanks
That sounds like a lot of fun! You sound like a super cool grandparent and your "G's" are super blessed to have you sew for them. XO, Jen :)
whats the make and model of the sewing machine??
Unfortunately, that machine is no longer in the studio so we don't know the make and model! I am so sorry for any inconvenience!
***** what are you using now??
