“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear.” ― Franklin D. Roosevelt. ❤ Thank you for your service, gentlemen. I hope one day I can shake your hand. I have had the pleasure and honor providing medical care on deployments to the BEST people on the planet. Those were the best of times. Those were the worst of times. I would never trade any of it. Much love and respect from a fellow vet, albeit, I was in the rear with the gear……😂❤ God Bless you, Jeff and Brad 🕊🙏🏻
I can feel the restlessness that transpires from you looking back on these events, not in a nervous manner, but in a "I have so much to say to my buddy about this thing that I haven't spoken about in a long time" way. I'm not American, and I'm not a huge fan of the politics that send the troops overseas, but I have a lot of respect for the caliber of men who carry on their shoulders the astonishing weight that goes with fighting a war. Your perspectives are so interesting to hear, I hope this gets the views it deserves.
Hey Jeff, I’m just watching this interview, but wanted to say that the scene between yours and Brads characters really resonated with me, so to see this interview was just perfect in that we get to know what was in yours and Brad’s minds. I’m not exforces, I was in law-enforcement in the uk, I’ve not seen combat in that regard, but have been in dangerous situations. This scene just, for me at least, shows that fear and doubt are real but nobody should feel shame for feeling it. It’s what you do that matters, not how you feel….if that makes sense. Anyway, just wanted to say thank you 🙂
Great interview. Jeff, you should get Brad Paulsen on next. I would love to hear you guys trade thoughts on what happened in Mogadishu seeing as you guys were in the same vehicle together.
No, RRD was not a Teir 1 unit. They were a in-house asset to the Ranger Regiment. When they meta-morphed into RRC, they became a national asset under JSOC. The old RRD wasn’t much different in concept to what Force Recon Marines did for the bigger USMC Units, gathering intelligence for commanders before a big assault. What RRC became was a extension of the AFO capability that the GWOT generated. For how big Al Qaeda became as a network, JSOC needed more units dedicated to clandestine preparation of battle space and that’s where RRC filled the demand.
Rick helped me get through, and not quit after, our 1SG drowned on the parachute jump. Rick was such an incredible person, even to us support dudes.
Brad Thomas is the dude.
I’ve never heard another living soul even mention Angry Chair, I thought I was the only one that liked it. What an awesome dude.

I've always wondered if that scene in the movie was referring to this "Thomas" how cool is this!?
How in the world did I miss this
