    One Mistake, a blunder actually. I claimed glanza to be a CNG electric hybrid car, but it is actually a normal CNG vehicle, ( but the facts still remain the same for hybrid and same variant petrol car)
    I am expanding my team and it is my fault that I didn't check the facts thoroughly, Please grant my Apologies.

      You need to seriously educate yourself about EV
      1. If all Indian start running EV it will seriously reduce carbon emission compared to ICE cars ..because even with 100% coal electricity emission is less for EV and our grid is improving everyday
      2. EV does not take any time to charge because 99% cars will charge at home at night
      3. If we all go EV our dependency on foreign oil will go down
      4. India exponentially growing in renewable energy
      5. India has all the raw materials to build infinite Iron phosphate batteries
      6. If you can see a bulb running around you you have infrastructure for EV.
      7. After grid upgrades India has power surplus

    Bring plug in hybrids with battery range of 50km. It will solve most problems. For most people daily 50km is more than enough. The car will run most of the time only on battery power. In case one needs to go for long journeys, the petrol option is always there in a plug in hybrid.

    • @rapiddu6482

      Exactly that's the thing this video misses entirely. People only want plugin hybrids because it's ridiculous to use petrol when your 90% of your run could have been purely electric. It's leaves bad taste in user experience plugin hybrids save 80% of the cost and these dumb hybrids save less than 25%.why would I ever pay more than double for "hybrid" 😂

      Honestly, 50 km is too little range for a car, although I know hybrids don't have very good electric range. Some don't even run on electric independently, specially Toyota. The best hybrid SUV with good EV range is probably BMW X series (70-80 Km).

      Incentivising Hybrids will slow down induction of Pure EVs, which is not desirable. Hybrids would have been welcomed 5-10 years back when EV manufacturing in India was non existent. Now govt is trying to incentivise EV production which is highly essential in current circumstances. Charging Infra will keep coming up as sale of EVs increases. We are not very far from achieving ranges of 500 to 600 km in one charge (just a matter of 1-2 years), which will then make it attractive to replace your IC engine (petrol/diesel) cars. So while Hybrid tech is welcome, it should not be at the cost of ultimate goal (EVs)

    I definitely think that hybrids are much better when compared to pure ev's .. if we talk about india 's progress in ev's.. as you get almost no range anxiety and its the problem for low end turbo end if ur an enthusiast.. and more than that.. for enthusiasts people.. hybrids are a clever play.. as most enthusiasts hate the fact that evs have no sound..and for mileage purpose too its very good..

      That's not for you it's for oil imports. As more people shift on cars overall crude oil imports won't decrease the mileage will be only adjusted for increased demand. Considering India population you really can't make your economy dependent on oil imports because as country grows demand will grow exponentially not linearly. Hence the reason they want to squeeze the manufacturers and people alike so that infra increases at rapid pace rather than mediocre pace if they were to promote hybrid tech cars. Which in my opinion is correct move. That's bad luck for Japanese brands but that's what it is India doesn't have the luxury of such level of high per capita income to afford that attitude "Kal dekh lenge jo hoga" anymore. You need to make decisions today that will affect you 30 years down the line. Plus there is another factor of importing tech at higher price, lessgrowth for domestic brands, not to mention the level corruption involved when politicians "expedite" things they will approve 2-3x price for infra taking even bigger cuts just like happened in commonwealth games 2010.

      That beats the whole purpose of taxing IC cars so high. Pollution wise there's no significant difference, the motor burns oil to produce electricity. The high mileage is only achieved during ideal cases, on a highway a pure IC is better, in city traffic an EV is much better. The whole push for EVs is to reduce oil imports, if current scenario isn't enough to make you realise that OPEC is a bunch of selfish pricks. I own a camry 2022. Bought it at an eye watering price but it does what it claims. 20-21 kms per ltr on highways and 16-19 kms non-highway. It seamlessly switches from Ice to battery and also has a lot of power on tap for quick overtakes and doesn't lug around the big heavy battery of pure electrics or plug-ins.
    You're correct in stating that hybrid is the correct way of moving onto pure electrics until the charging networks become ubiquitous.
    It's unfortunate that hybrids which save so much fuel is overlooked by govt. especially with the cost of petroleum products skyrocketing.

    • @MANDARRPANDE
      @MANDARRPANDE Рік тому

      A guy said that on highways these hybrids switch to ice then is such conditions what is the average you are getting as compared to city drive. Does it drop significantly. And enlighten us about its service cost and maintenance.

    • @samratjpatil
      @samratjpatil Рік тому +2

      @@MANDARRPANDE it depends on your driving style. I'm mostly a sedate driver. On Mumbai pune expressway I get 22 kmpl from Pune to Mumbai and 19 on my way back probably because of the elevation, I. E. Pune is at a higher level.
      In camry there's an AGC mode that's engaged when you remove the foot off the accelerator in eco mode. The car coasts at the speed and it's using up the electric motor and ice is either disengaged or on very low consumption. So long things short, hybrids with Atkinson cycle are very efficient on highways but they seem even more so in stop and go traffic because of regen.
      And if you're adventurous and switch to sport mode the 2.5 liter engine will propel you to your expectations. But it's going to gulp fuel now; still much much better than non hybrid turbos though. It's easy to frequently switch between eco normal and sport since they're well placed individual buttons. I use them per the condition.
      The service costs and repair costs are nominal because it's a Toyota. Since it's not even been a year, I don't really know about the service costs, but it's very nominal in the range of 10 to 15k per year. I had blown a fuse because I plugged in a tyre inflator, Toyota fixed it for Rs 125 officially.
      To sum it up it costs like German cars, is (probably more) comfortable, luxurious than the Germans, more reliable and fuel efficient too.
      The upkeep and cost of ownership is like a normal Toyota car actually. It's resale value apparently is extremely good compared to Germans. It's built like a tank and has numbers to prove in safety. It rides like an alladin carpet and with pin drop cabin silence and has more than enough headroom for quick overtakes. Also very well behaved handling for such a heavy car.
      The downsides are
      Since it's a rare car, the parts take a long time to arrive for repairs / service.
      It's costly upfront, a mental image of an international taxi competing with the likes of audis, mercs and beemers.
      Even after spending so much, you also have to deal with the same unsophisticated sales and rub shoulders with rest of the Toyota customers. I don't have a problem here though.
      The brand recall doesn't scream - they've arrived - I don't have a problem here either.
      Since it's a Toyota it takes them their own sweet time to bring in quality of life features that are now common even in cars costing one third. 360 camera is big miss for such a big car.
      Waiting times. I booked it in March and got it in September.
      I hope this'll give you a fair idea.

    In my opinion, hybrid cars are better for our future than EV's. Unlike electric cars, you don't have to worry about range and wait for long hours to get the battery charged. Hybrids are also much better when it comes to driving engagement. And people who say that EVs have lower running costs than ICE cars should consider the fact that ICE cars are still the mainstream when it comes to vehicles. Once EVs become mainstream, the cost of electricity will increase greatly because the demand and supply for electricity will increase and with Increase in demand and supply, the prices will also increase.

    The mileage advantage of hybrid is useful only in city drive, where because of regen and high usage of bettery, the actual mileage is close to claimed one. However when you move to highway, the mileage drops significantly (as car mostly runs on mostly on engine). This coupled with compromised boot capacity, its not great choice for highway drives.
    If you are only driving in city, then EV have great advantage over hybrid as charging time and range is not an issue and per kilometer running cost is very low.
    It would take may be 4 to 5 years for good charging infrastructure, post that hybrid will loose its current advantage.

    Indian EV's are :
    1.cost effective over 7 years life span.
    2. Save foreign exchange ( even if 70% of electricity in India is by coal, that still is saving precious foreign exchange as coal is primarily mined in India vs petroleum/cng that's imported). This is evern more important in case of supply chain constrains as the world is presently facing)
    3. Hybrid technology would be totally dependant on toyota & honda as nobody else has developed this globally. This would lead to a monopolistic situation.
    4. The world is shifting to Electric. If India gives incentives to hybrid we would loose out opportunity for vehicle exports.
    Finally, as you mentioned, for EV infrastructure to establish their's got to be a customer need. This will not happen if both hybrid & EV's are insentivised.
    I've spent 32 years in the auto industry globally and am presently mentoring start-up's related to last mile EV's. In my opinion fuel cell EV's are a better option for India & toyota have the technology for that in their Mirai car. That's been given equal incentives too, so no need for hybrid ev's which are at higher life time cost, less environment friendly & baby on foreign exchange outflow

    1. Hybrid model might be more suitable for these companies as they already have invested and devloped the technology and selling the same to the world.
    2. Hybrid model would really on petrol economy which in turn would be a load on Indian currency.
    3. Development of low cost EV solution can become India's USP if the technology in devloped inhouse within India which can be exported to the world.

    1st were engines of mechanical purity which moved to electronic interventions and now electric.
    A full hybrid powerplant replaces the mechanical multi speed gearbox with electric motors to cope during the torque challenged regions of the ICE.
    While the ISG in a mild hybrid powerplant can eliminate the torque converter required to pair the ICE to a CVT.
    EVs with the current battery technology are not there yet. A few decades of hybrid motoring might be inevitable.

    Hybrid technology is great but we also need to protect our own brands. Suppose someday we take back POK and west sanction us like Russia, we will be helpless. Its important that we protect as well as expose our Indian companies to real competition.
    We should also push and provide incentives to Indian brands to develop vehicles on multiple fuels.

    One one hand you focus on all the negetives of EVs. But completeley ignore the negetives of hybrid and flex fuel engines. With EVs there is a complete possibility to generate electricity using solar panels, even at your house. There are other ways such as hydro, wind and nuclear. Electricity does not come only from coal.But there is no way you can produce fossil fuel locally. Fuel has to be imported. Also do you know how much energy intense fuel refining is? With ethanol, lets imagine, all vehicles shift to ethanol. Where does ethanol come from? Sugarcane. So how will you meet the demand of widespread adoption of ethanol? Grow more sugarcane. You know sugarcane is a highly water intensive crop and affects water table badly. With rising demand, many farmers will shift from food crop cultivation to sugarcane cultivation. How are we planning to mitigate this? Bottomline is there are positives and negetives of everything. But these days I feel you are more biased against EVs. One more thing is that you said Tata and Mahindra are lobbying against hybrid because they dont have the technology. But it can also be that Toyota and Suzuki are reluctant to shift to EVs because they too dont have the right technology and supply chain setup for it. The japs are no saints either. Toyota had this technology from the past 25 years. If they felt hybrid is the magic pill, then why not introduce it earlier in India? Why wait till now and come up suddenly that hybrid are a magical pill and cry foul? Its just that now the EV shift has started and they just want to buy some time for it.

    • @NalinKhurb
      @NalinKhurb Рік тому +2

      Some of the points that you raised are valid, especially about ethanol, it’s a failed idea
      On top of it, I would say that Japanese know that EV infrastructure is in no shape here, and neither the electricity grid to support even 20% of the cars (as an example)
      They did not introduce hybrid cars because it’s an expensive technology, in India the best designs are simple designs. To diagnose and repair a hybrid system is another ball game, when currently majority of the support staff in India cannot even diagnose issues in DSG gearboxes
      You are also importing batteries and motors from China, so it’s rather better to import fuel from other nations in the meantime, in my opinion. Forex deficit with China is very skewed as it is

    • @shas312
      @shas312 Рік тому

      @@NalinKhurb , I knew the battery import thing would come. When ICE vehicles first came to India, everything was being imported. Later, only the engines were imported but the body was made here. Now we have come to the stage where we not only manufacture our engines but we are also the export hub for automobiles. Likewise we are importing batteries now. But work to setup lithium ion battery plants are already under the way. Government has launched the PLI scheme and is working with private players to manufacture battery and electronic components needed for EVs. Govt has also brought lithium mines in Chile under the name of a company called Khanij Bidesh India Limited. So gradually it will get localised. So China is not the only solution and we are already working on alternatives.
      Coming to the point where you say that Indian grid is not even '20%' ready for EV. I dont know from where you get that number. The Japanese companies know jackshit about Indian grid situation. They are just buying time. Please read the below article.

      @@shas312 It's a different viewpoint. IMO, I would rather buy foreign fuel than source something from China, if it can be helped of course. And I'm sure my kind Sir that those imported engines were not from China. Lmao
      Good to see India taking some concrete steps regarding energy independence. Thanks for the info
      That 20% was a hyperbole, miss the brackets? Many places do not receive 24hr electricity as it is, does one expect it to improve even if 1/5th of the cars are electric. Forget places like Delhi (as per the article), there's world outside as well
      Plug-in hybrids seem to be the best strategy for India. India needs all kinds of vehicles, including EVs and flex-fuel cars.
      Japanese are buying time for what? Can't they make EVs if they wish to? Lol.
      They're just waiting for the right moment until the charging infrastructure gets widespread and then you'll see them crushing the competition, as always. First mover disadvantage is what they're saving themselves from
      Despite enjoying a majority share of 85% in 4w EV space (private), Tata's RSA and after sales are pathetic. It's a mindset problem. Indian manufacturers take plenty of liberties when it comes to delivering an overall refined experience. Japanese do not make that mistake as often, and especially MSIL

Having emission at 1 cr places and having emissions in 4-5 coal power plants is a huge difference. We can better efficienctly clean current production and switch to a cleaner production method easily.
