Everyone's talking about 3:20 onward but the chorus at 1:30 honestly keeps me coming back too. This is the most eerie and beautiful song I've heard in a long time.
yes. i just cried my heart out seconds ago after coming back to this years after. i made some bad decision in life, and now I've to go ahead with them. and i cried, and i cried.
These are some of the most chilling and heartbreaking lyrics I have ever heard in a song. Yet at the same time there is a hopeful note that approaching life without expectations and attachment will grant some solace. Truly one of the best songs in the genre.
I absolutely love the album, Altered State, and this song especially. I'm the kind of metal/hardcore-head that loves my music energetic and furious (I'm one of the people that don't mind violent hardcore moshing/dancing), so it's out of character for me to like this, but this is just plain beautiful. The ambience and overall sound quality of this album is out of this world, so much so, that the clean singing (which I normally hate) not only doesn't retract from the quality of the music, but sincerely adds to it. Ashe O'Hara was a find for this band and it's a shame that he's no longer a member... I have no count for how many times I've heard the riff and accompanying piece that starts at 3:47 now. So etherial and celestial. One of the most beautiful pieces in all of metal in my opinion.
Probably irrelevant at this point, but you should check out the contortionist early grave live at the machine. Then stop by fair to midland musical chairs. If you have time on this tour look up breaking orbit eternity. Remember to eat your fruits and vegetables, get plenty of sleep, and love your government. THIS HAS BEEN A PSA ANNOUNCMENT FROM A ROBOT WHO HAS BEEN PROGRAMED TO HAVE COMMON EXISTENCE INTERACTIONS WITH HUMANS.
The subject is battling thoughts, asking how do think, how do we bridge heart and mind. The instrumental ending is so perfectly analogous, starting off with the "mind" (7:10) in a steady rythm, this is purely logic and reasoning. Eventually "heart" comes in to play (7:23) and mind loosens up, although sitting there in the background. But mind makes a comeback, existential anxiety kicks in with full force and you're left without much hope.
@@gaugehaver2426 i actually feel like that retracts from the song! to me it feels quite messy and unfocused. the first half of War of Being (the album) is incredible though, probably TesseracT's best work since Altered State imo
Rediscovering this album has been a cathartic experience. No disrespect to Dan, a splendid singer himself, but I would choose Ashe over him over a million times. Blast!
I have shown this song to so many people and they are unable to see the beauty and perfection in this song. This is one of the most beautifully written, and performed songs I have personally ever heard. I honestly feel bad for people who can't broaden their horizons and see the beauty in this. It's sad how closed minded people are. If it isn't in the mainstream and considered "popular" they are unable to form their own opinions on it.
I agree. I'm going to sound like one of those people but Polaris and everything after was too different a direction for me--even though I understand it's part of the band's natural evolution. Altered State is one of the best of this generation.
Polaris is far more complete than this record... much more organic, too. Much, much better songwriting. Not sure where Polaris fails that Altered State succeeds.
@@flesruoYkcuFoGuoY Polaris doesn’t have the different “acts” found in their last two in which separates the songs into fitting segments that purvey a certain idea or message. It doesn’t flow as well as their past ones due to this and seems a little bit more disjointed as a result
@@asherdeep8948 You sound like one of those people because you are one of those people. Bands make the music THEY want to make, not the music YOU want them to make.
god these lyrics. I feel them so much, how I had to emotionally divorce from my abusive family but the prospect of only finding peace results in a feeling of isolation while your own peace will stir up unhappiness and conflict in many others. Couple that with the perceived need to balance your own needs with the needs of your abuser and you have these lyrics. How you're trying to stall yourself because the abusers are the only thing you know. aarggh the torment and loneliness in this album is exactly what I used to feel before therapy
Yeah, it's amazing I mean, I don't dislike screams, Dan is also an amazing singer, and his screams also make the songs better, but I definitely really love clean voice. Ashe's and Dan's alike, both fantastic singers Also, the guitars, bass, and drums are some of the best
I first heard the Polaris album before listening to this gem. I think I've listened to it between 500 and 600 times since then. haha. doesn't really get old
This may be one of my favorite songs, ever. Period. It's so philosophical in a meritable way that makes you really step back and be pensive about things you normally don't think about; how sometimes life can be stale and you question all your pain and its source at the same time. I can go on and on forever about this song but I'd rather it speak for itself and be beautiful in the terrifyingly existential and beautiful way it does.
This is my favorite Tesseract song. This is the song i listen to religiously like 10 times a day ever since the release and I never get tired of.But somehow I think its the most underrated song of Altered State. According to Ashe this was the Band's Favorite at one point. So why haven't they performed this live with Dan? Better yet. Why wasn't this masterpiece included in their Recent Scala/Odyssey release? Anyone know?
My favorite song since the first time Ive heard it... Nothing like this, the best of the music world. Thank you TesseracT, thank you Ashe, your voice is out of this world.

What's the confliction between heart and mind? How to bridge the void? Fuse the two in kinship To understand your prospects and vistas And yet to see the love here too It's more than I can do Vows and pursuits which at best hollow I remain torn in two
Still waiting as well. 5 months since ordering and 3 months since release. I am so angry at only being able to listen to the album on youtube vids etc. I got a confirmed signed copy but am still fighting to receive that as apparently stock that subsequently came in and got signed was then given out at a festival rather than hold back a few copies for loyal fans who ordered the album back in march. the worst management of web orders I've ever experienced.
Great production...a new interesting band, since I lost Porcupine Tree. Can't understand the lyrics, but I don't give a shit about some dude's opinion on life anyway...never have...that's why these metal bands release instrumental versions. Cheers
The vocal harmonies in this song are ridiculous.

The section from 3:23 onwards is one of the best you will listen to in your life.. both musically and lyrically
That fucking chugging sequence immediately before that too.

This is literally the best song I've ever heard, under any genre.
real shit, the whole album is a masterpiece
these harmonies. Ashe's voice..
Yes, im sad that they switched singers again. But Dan is amazing singer in his own right too, just very different.

exquisite indeed.

"The hand of God I'm too tempted to bribe"

"just seize the moment sabotage the lines life turns on a dime please cease the torment it's weighing on my mind the pressure you apply"
I found this band at a point in life that needed these words. 7 years ago.
Trying to work this out on bass and the rhythm in the first verse is mind bending for me holy shit
Adhitthana
I say the same!!!!!
Adhitthana Keep on it, not as hard as it seems :)
Yeah, sure , after listening More than fifty times I figured it !

Adhitthana Polyrhythms are fun aren't they? :)

"this life of stone the hand of god I'm too tempted to bribe " that part is just too much
I never really paid much attention to Tesseract before now, but I've been playing this album non stop since hearing it. It's blown me away.
I love the whole vocal section at 2:20. So unique!
The solution to the questions posed in the lyrics is literally Christianity. Put all trust in the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and on His infinite mercy.
7:11 and on might be my favorite progression on the album. That, or that fuckin' crazy rhythm part in Eclipse! Seeing them in April ya bish..
Agreed
7 years later and still sends a chill to my spine. I saw this song live twice with Ashe O' Hara and I thought I died.
that unexpected chord change at 3:56 and onwards always gets me

This album is written around Ashe's super high vocal parts; without them it would sound dry as fuck. Groovy, yes, but dry.
