Gotta say, I think I prefer this version with the Bassist screaming as well. The contrast of the gutteral low vocals and Dan's very high pitch scream is great.
The other version is just the studio version, the bassist doesn't scream - so it's all high screaming, and there's a lot more layering on the vocals. They are much better in this recording, in my opinion. :3
Saw them twice. The have been one of my favorite bands for years. And they are so much better live. AND they only grew their skills over the years. Most underrated band I’ve seen in my life. If you have the chance, don’t even think twice, see them live!
You are so lucky to have seen them, it will only ever be a dream for me, but I'm grateful that they keep making brilliant and unique music - they are MASTERFUL. Been a fan for about a decade and they still create soundscapes that amaze and those really "TessercacT-y" grooves that make your bones buzz. They deserve sold out stadiums. Well at least you get to discover another side of them and liking it, hehe. Lament and Nacent also great tracks. Don't get me wrong, I think Altered State is a perfect album, but I do prefer Dan on vocals..check Skyharbor's Blinding White Noise and Guiding Lights if you don't know them, that's when Dan was on vocals as well, good stuff.
I saw their show now in March 2023 (Brazil), and I have no regrets. It exceeded my expectations and was wonderful. Whenever I have the opportunity to see their show here in my country, I won't hesitate.

I'll never forget those days when I used to always jam this song in its entirety on regular rotation on my old iPod shuffle when I used to walk to school in the mornings as a 13 year old. Combined my love for the musicianship of Dream Theater, the groovy goodness of Meshuggah and the atmospheric approach of bands like Karnivool. Absolutely blew my mind and still does to this day 11 years later!
If you haven't heard of them, check out monuments and the amanuensis album, it very much has this vibe and is the closest sound I've ever heard to this - closer even than meshuggah djent wise

Meshuggah isn't djent themselves, they're avant garde, but they birthed the entire djent movement because of the chuggy mid range guitar riffs and polyrythmic/metered drum grooves. Just from an unbiased standpoint. I am looking from new music and this is the first time I have listened to this song. When a band like this starts out just like most heavier bands do I wait to see what they will do next. If they don't wow me pretty quickly I'm not usually able to say I like them. I either get hooked or don't. The intro got me interested then the dirty vocals came and I expected them to, but then they hit me with the soft vocals, WOW! Range shows a lot about a band's talent!

Saw them live before I really knew about them while they toured with Protest the Hero, and I must say they rocked my socks. The singer was energetic and powerful, the guitars and drums were awesomely tight, and best of all, I met them after the show and they were totally nice. It was good shit.
