when you do these type of comparisons, if you paint the mini's all the same, it'll be easier to compare the differences at the end to something that is painted with a higher quality airbrush.
I picked one up that's very similar to the last one from Temu for about £2, tested a couple of times and works OK so far. Very pleased this can be an introduction airbrush
Given that the big issue with many of the cheaper airbrushes is quality control, maybe for the next video like this, order more than one of each and try each of them . . .
Totally agree. A big issue with cheap anything is lack of quality control, and it's very easy for the original reviewer to get a bad one and you a good one (or vice versa) so you can't say the original reviewer was lying or mistaken in their views.
Honestly I’ve only ever purchased cheap airbrushes because I simply don’t have $200 to drop on an airbrush. All of the airbrushes I’ve ordered have worked fine. I’ve even purchased the portable airbrushes. I simply use an air hose with them so I don’t have to hold the compressor. My advice would be to shop around, read the reviews and hop on UA-cam to see what other creators think. I purchased an accessory and cleaning pack for my airbrushes. Comes with different size needles, nozzles and cleaning accessories. Great for fixing any issue you may have.
Now you should make a video about decent compact airbrushes like the autolock one that stops airflow automatically, 50 euros, got it from three years from Ali and still rocking, made a whole master grade gunpla with that, no issues at all, just made some pauses to avoid overheating but still you can enjoy 30-40 mins of airbrushing in the heat of summer without issues
I've went the usual routr of picking up a couple of cheap airbrushes at my local hobby store. They work okay for priming I guess. Then I bought a badger and now can suddenly airbrush my models! Don't waste your money, buy a name brand, take care of it and it will be take care of the rest.
Just buy from Gaahleri. Their mobius line is incredible. The 0.3mm nozzle mobius is $65 on their website and it absolutely blows the badger patriot 105 and harder & steenbeck ultra that I've had in the past out of the water. There is no comparison in performance in my experience. If you don't want to spend $65, the ghad-39 is my "junk" airbrush and is comparable to the patriot 105 I had

I actually bought the second airbrush just for a cheap priming/base coating air brush, and it worked really well. that it until I did a deep clean and lost the O-ring. now it's a paper weight.
I bought two $60+ airbrushes and they worked “okay”… for a while. Then I had issues with flow and parts and cleaning was difficult as they didn’t reassemble well. I could have put that towards an iwata that would have produced better results and kept working: less expensive in the long run to buy quality. Reinforced the notion of “only the rich can afford to buy cheap”.

My cult of paint airbrush is a finicky git and feels like more hassle than some cheaper brushes as if it isn't cleaned to perfection then it doesn't like working 😂
The regular H&S airbrushes are much nicer than the modified cult of paint ones - you pay way too much for hobby white labelling. I'm very suspect of Cult of Paint / Artist Opus (same company btw, also connected to element games) branding whenever I see it - their sable hair brushes are good but way overpriced.
GHAD-39, Master G233, NEOECO SJ83 for under 40 starter airbrushes that you can learn on without worrying about wrecking them. pair that with a timber tech ABPST08 and upgrade to a H&S once you know how to use an airbrush
I just gave up on airbrushes. From crappy no name to my latest Iwata. They just clog non-stop with "airbrush ready" paints and nothing comes out, even after cleaning them.
Hey, Which airbrush would you (and the comment section) recommend to a miniature painter who already used a no name airbrush for OSL and priming, and want to move on to the next step. Should I go for the 2024 Ultra or pay a bit more and get the Evolution 2in1? already ordered the a186 compressor you recommended. was using a no name no tank, no regulator before.
I'd probably go for an evolution 2024 with a 0.44 needle if you're mostly painting armies. The big needle is sooo good, you only need the smaller one if you do a lot of detail work
@@SquidmarMiniatures i just ordered the Evolution, thanks for the fast reply, went with the 2in1, because i couldn't find one with only the 0.45. hope i won't regret skipping the beginner brush.

i got a cheap airbrush from amazon. and well... it worked... for a short time, but i had to disassemble and clean it every 5 minutes. eventually, i got frustrated and bought an ultra.
I bought the red airbrush and it sucks. I could use it just once and it was horrible. After that stopped working at all… I ended up just throwing it in the bin.
@@IanSharpeCork thanks for the tip, I tried to get into airbrushing but for some reason I had great difficulty finding any concrete tips and tricks to make it easier. Thankfully I was smart and bought a cheap one to start out, but videos like this have been a good learning experience since I started looking to upgrade.
I get the fun of rating the worst reviewed airbrushes, but how about also throwing in some reviews for the highly reviewed cheaper airbrushes/airbrush kits. For example there are a number of kits on UK amazon with airbrush and compressor for around the £50-£70 that have hundreds of reviews and average 4+ stars. Would be really helpful to have a review of that type of product that people are actually more likely to buy, rather than super cheap crappy reviewed products that people will probably avoid anyway.
I'm kind of curious with the airbrushes that come with the compressor like the first one did it clearly is separate soo as a airbrush if it was connected to a more standard compressor via a lead do any of them perform better.
I like how good a airbrush works and the paint jobs that come from it when in the hands of someone that knows what they are doing!?! But that is NOT me! Unfortunately!!! Actually, airbrushing annoys the hell out of me! I’ve bought 4 different kinds of airbrush’s. At different price points. But all with either good reviews or great reviews! And they never last longer than a few minutes of painting!?! And for everything you can say, I’ve already tried it or looked and NO to all!!! I just don’t get it!?! But I’ve also given up trying to figure it out! Maybe someday I might try again……. but only if I hear someone suggesting something I’ve never heard/tried before?!? Which I doubt!
You didn't just order cheap airbrushes, you ordered the worst reviewed ones. Shocking that you didn't think they were good and concluded everyone should buy from your sponsor...
Don’t you normally use airbrushes to actually paint the model, do detailing, as well as brushes, obviously, but if you are just spraying the whole thing, does it matter what an airbrush does? May as well review spray paint
@SquidmarMiniatures really wish I could share a screenshot. It does say less than 100 left, but i go to buy and it comes up sold out and won't even let me cart it.
I revisited this video after watching the most recent Squidlybits video and discussing airbrushes. The Harder & Steenbeck Ultra 2024 retails for an average of $300 in Australia. That's far too expensive for me. Especially given I'd have to buy a compressor as well - which is usually around $200 for a crap one. Has anyone tried the Metro Hobbies basics dual action AB for $99? I tried FOUR airbrush kits sold recently at ALDI and they were all defective. No surprises form ALDI though. Their stuff is always garbage. Refunded without any argument.
Hey man, of you want a cheap airbrush I'd go for iwata neo, h&s ultra or sparmax. Put of the no name ones, the yellow one used in this video is actually decent. It just sucks to clean it.
Hey mate. You can buy a 2024 ultra from art Republic for $175, which is where I bought my first ultra meant years ago so I can recommend them. The $200 investment is a good purchase too, I've had mine for 10 years and it's running strong. It's just the one from metro hobbies. Good luck mate ❤
@@Almindale Thanks mate. That's helpful having someone local getting back to me. It's probably still a bit pricey for me right now unfortunately. Lotta bills to pay, including the $175 for my DJ Controller repair. But that is a great price for such a decent AB. Thanks! 👍
Can we pls have some other type of videos, as much as I like your content I feel like it's sometimes a copy paste of some other videos you made. I mean the reviewing videos and all of that stuff, I mean no hate tho
The trouble with these cheap airbrushes is the lack quality control and consistency. Customer A can get an airbrush that works well, but Customer B gets the same airbrush and it is terrible. Also the lack of spares like needles, nozzles and o-rings, or where they do exist the lack of quality control and consistency rears its head again - you had a airbrush that was performing well, you managed to strip the thread on the nozzle while cleaning, you get a new nozzle and needle and the airbrush now works but is terrible.

Depends on budget, but harder and Stenbeck ultra 2024 is a good option
GHAD-39, Master G233, NEOECO SJ83 for under 40 starter airbrushes that you can learn on without worrying about wrecking them. pair that with a timber tech ABPST08 and upgrade to a H&S once you know how to use an airbrush
@@Sep141thanks i Will check those
@@AxelFridholm the neoeco is actually kind of a sleeper
I just gave up on airbrushes. From crappy no name to my latest Iwata. They just clog non-stop with "airbrush ready" paints and nothing comes out, even after cleaning them.
Airbrush ready can be... Very varying. I still recommend thinning it a bit. Also maybe try increasing the pressure
It’s Andy!
Can i just rig up my nail gun compressor? I want a airbrush but don't want to buy another tool i technically already own.
All these cheap all in one airbrush compressors break and some of the airbrush themselves also break. They are cheap. You get what you pay for
Hey, Which airbrush would you (and the comment section) recommend to a miniature painter who already used a no name airbrush for OSL and priming, and want to move on to the next step.
@@grynchdk We've got it on our current campaign site, thats the only place to get the squidmar version of it! :) best of luck with the airbrush i think it will be amazing for you!
I'll never trade in my Iwata Eclipse!!! Though I may your guy's at some point....
i got a cheap airbrush from amazon. and well... it worked... for a short time, but i had to disassemble and clean it every 5 minutes. eventually, i got frustrated and bought an ultra.
fricken love you dudes
I bought the red airbrush and it sucks. I could use it just once and it was horrible. After that stopped working at all… I ended up just throwing it in the bin.
would the h&s air bushes work on the handheld compressors..?
please dont. there are better options at most price points for compressors.
What compressor would you recommend for a newbie?
timbertech ABPST08. 90 bucks but the only one you'll ever need.
You should just review the compressors with your regular airbrushes.
Wait, you are supposed to be able to use airbrush paints right out of the pot in airbrushes?? Looks like I need to invest in a good airbrush lmao
Vallejo air paints are already thinned
@@IanSharpeCork thanks for the tip, I tried to get into airbrushing but for some reason I had great difficulty finding any concrete tips and tricks to make it easier. Thankfully I was smart and bought a cheap one to start out, but videos like this have been a good learning experience since I started looking to upgrade.
@@dakotaclarke1817 you should always put a drop or two of thinner in the pot first regardless of what paint you use
Majority of paints need a drop or 2 of thinner.
Even if it says ab ready.
*alclad and sms paints are already thinned properly
@@argoth231 those are also both lacquer solvent based, vs water based which are a bit trickier to spray. Especially for new user.
0:45 Oh so Thats you do it. I allway thought you use a vape
Was this a video a scam just to get Andy Wardle to paint a bunch of minis for you? 😂
Haha yasss
Sparmax are fine. Good entry level brand.
Iwata Neo is made by Sparmax for Iwata.
Probably yes
What about the airbrushes from Green Stuff World? Want to know if they are good as a start.
glad Lucas airbrush broke down :D
Andy
Love the video but I can't buy your airbrush as I already bought it a few weeks ago 😁
You didn't just order cheap airbrushes, you ordered the worst reviewed ones. Shocking that you didn't think they were good and concluded everyone should buy from your sponsor...
Dere har vel også Biltema og Jula. De har veldig bra Airbrusher til et par hundrelapper.
Andy’s arms 💪🏻💪🏻
the amount of smoke effect you guys use now has to be satire I can't take it seriously
Don’t you normally use airbrushes to actually paint the model, do detailing, as well as brushes, obviously, but if you are just spraying the whole thing, does it matter what an airbrush does? May as well review spray paint
poop, missed on your guys custom brush
It's still available
@@SquidmarMiniatures American site says sold old
@@mrjinglesdice2368 man there should be about 100 left on the site of the evolution Ltd edition
@SquidmarMiniatures really wish I could share a screenshot. It does say less than 100 left, but i go to buy and it comes up sold out and won't even let me cart it.

Why not review the compressors when paired with good airbrushes?
Thanks! 👍
@@Almindale May I ask what compressor you have? That's been the other pricey outlay that's put me off, I must admit.
@@benmiles00I bought the $200 metro hobbies one for $160 10 years ago 😅
Who's the baldy??
is funny how i spent money on at least 3 of these airbrushes hahahahahaha :(
Rip 😭
Can we pls have some other type of videos, as much as I like your content I feel like it's sometimes a copy paste of some other videos you made. I mean the reviewing videos and all of that stuff, I mean no hate tho
Dudes no one knows how much are Krones worth pls. at least show it in USD so I can see how much it cost. 877kr ? wth
Divide it by 10 to get usd
is one simple google search that difficult? lol
