I really appreciate people that do these videos, thanks 👍
Great simple video .Other guys make it look like wiring the space shuttle .
You know they're the guys that always seem to make a fairly simple job last longer than the hour, so you end up paying for the 2nd hour aswell, sheisters
Great video - just changed our bathroom fan as previous one went bust. Made it very straightforward. Thanks!
Luke, your demo is fine mate. One thing though, as you know H & S is paramount in our trade. I feel you must show yourself testing the cables for 'live' then showing how you isolated the fan (it has a permanent live, so cant just switch the light off), then proving the cables 'dead' before you go unscrewing any cores. Hope this helps for any future demos.
I was actually thinking the exact same on this video mate. 😁 I appreciate the positive criticism tho it helps me become a better sparky. Cheers 👍
@@Sparky_lukeDo I just isolate power from fuse box then ?
I’m about to do mine in my own home and I do believe it has a permanent live ..
Nice stuff mate! You saved me from a cowboy ripping me £300 for that
You are star 🎉 your video bloody help me fix my fax ❤
Thank you. V helpful
Spot on. Cheers.
👍GREAT VIDEO ... thank you Luke for sharing your knowledge
Thank you bro
Great work mate
Good video for exactly what I'm doing at the moment. Current fan does not have timer, so only neutral (blue) and permanent live (brown) are connected. Black wire is sealed off and not connected. New fan has a timer, so need to incorporate black wire. Should there be a black connection at the switch outside the bathroom? Would get an electrician, but live in Scottish Highlands and told earliest visit would be 6 weeks away.
Thanks babe 😘
Nicely explained 👍👍👍👍👍🙂
Gracias amigo por la explicación 💪💪💪💪 I really appreciate it
We only quoted £500 so get fucked
Hi Luke, very well explained. I have just bought a replacement timed extractor fan and when the switch is on I have power at both live (red) & Switched live (yellow) but no fan. When switched off I have no power at switched live (yellow) as expected but I also have no power at the permanent live (red).
Firstly is the fan a dud for not switching on regardless? & why would there be no power at the permanent live when switched off at the switch? Should I check the wiring behind the isolator switch to see if the wires are securely connected?
@grahamshillingford8229
Hi Graham, the wiring sounds like it might be mixed up. When the switch is on, you should have power at the SL (switched live) with old colours it should be (Yellow), and when the switch is off, you should have no power at the SL.
The L terminal or permanent live (Red) is for the over run on the timer, so it stays on for a short period when the switch is turned off so the L terminal is always live, and the N terminal is the neutral (blue).
The 3 pole isolator basically should be wired L1, L2, N in and L1, L2, N out yellow L1 red L2 blue N they should match both in and out.
Finally, at your light, these should be wired yellow from the switch live, red from the loop, and blue from the neutral.
If the fan still doesn't work, it might be knackered.
Hope that helps failing that look up a simple bathroom fan with a timer wiring diagram on Google.
Good luck. And thanks for the comment 👍
Thanks Luke, you are a legend!!
Hi Luke,
It ended up being a bad switch. Removed & fitted a new one & hey presto!!! The fan that I removed when tested was fine our family bathroom fan stopped working a while back so I'll swap that one out with the original fan.
2 birds with one stone!!!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Thanks for your video. My extractor fan just went. Will all extractor fans fit the previously installed one?
Please show us how you press in the lugs to remove the cover plate. This can be hard for a lot of people
Thank you : )
Shouldn't you clean out the dust from the inside of the extractor pipe as far as you can go?
Hi i bought a same model fan but when i open the old one i have only live neutral and earth wire. there is no SL wire there. how do i install that?
Any chance to fix the fan? Second one broke after like 2 years... With timer and pretty expensive...
I have a bathroom extractor fan without a timer function that has stopped working and may need replacing. Can a fan with a timer function be installed to replace it?
Great video, I just need to find out how to remove the switch loop so it can run independently with a humidity monitor
I'm facing a problem in the bathroom. The vent is not stop working even when I turn off the switch, it stops only when I turn it off from the electric panel . Maybe the moisture sensor is broken? Or need to be cleaning? Any idea? Thank you.
Ey that's the fan I got :).
Should show how doing cable and all in quick steps
Hi, can you tell us how to isolate the fan and how to test if it’s live? 🙏
U need an electrician by the sounds of it.. who will have the test equipment and training
Can you switch off forever the fan, please?
It's spinning by itself Lol
What if the only cables are Live Neutral & Earth how would you wire a new fan that has L, TL, N
How much would you charge for a fan replacement?
How to turn off the timer so it’s not running after the lights are off ?
Do you need to turn off mains first? Thanks
I did just incase
Yes definitely!!
As this is a demonstration for none qualified people to follow.you must mention firstly to isolate the power supply.make the job safe
When you say 'isolate the power supply' do you mean that we should turn off the power at the breaker?
I'm changing extractor fan but wires are red, yellow, blue no instruction as to which is live or negative can anyone advise
Red should be live, blue should be neutral, yellow is possibly switch live, if its yellow and green it is earth.
@@Sparky_luke thank you very much for your advice
@@Sparky_luke hi what's the difference between live and earth please
@@Sparky_luke can you wire earth to yellow wire
Does this model of fan need to have live, switched live and neutral or will it just work with live and neutral?
I tried just using live and neutral but the fan wouldn't work and the resistor started getting hot. 🤔
I have the non timer version of this model I need to install. It only has Neutral and Permanent Live.
The wires are the old colours (Black and Red). What do I do with the Earth? It's not yellow, just a copper wire. Do I just leave it? Or am I suppoed to cover it with something like PVC Ttape?
Put a bit of earth sleeve over it or tape as you say. It is clas 2 equipment so doesn't require an earth, although if it's in a bathroom zone 1 or 2 you should really install a 12v one on a self system.
@@Sparky_luke Thanks Luke.. 👍
I'd replace it with an EnviroVent Filterless or Silent 100, because this one you installed (MANROSE) is TERRIBLY INEFFICIENT!!!
I agree, but it's what the customer chose.
@@Sparky_lukei respect the customers opinion
Is that brand good?
@@Horizon301. VERY GOOD
annunciate
How is it secured onto the pipe? Cable ties or something else. Im about to replace mine with a like for like but want to be prepared. I havent actually removed it yet to have a look at the current one
My question exactly!
How did you go about doing yours?
