    Just a quick note to say thank you for the video. I watched the whole procedure and was able to carry out this repair this afternoon in far less time than had I not watched you do it first!
    I hope my second-hand lock unit lasts a good few years as I'd rather not do it again in a hurry. Re-aligning the window frame was a bit tricky even though I had marked the position all four fixings, but it didn't take more than 20 mins.

      Really helpful video. I just did it and you don't need to take the window frame out. it is easy enough to get the door lock out with the frame still in.

    Thank you so much for the video. Without it removing the latch on my 98 Audi A6 driver's door would have been so much more difficult! Cheers mate!

    Hi guys do you have the part number for a drivers side door locking mechanism for a UK right hand drive A6 C5? I need to replace mine as it now think my driver's door is open when it isn't. Great video by the way 👍

      Click this link and enter your VIN where it says: Find the model by VIN (at the top half of the page) and then look through the catalog until you find what you need / the part number.

    Thanks for the video.
    The door will not open with key on my A6 (2006), for key only goes half way. Did you face the same problem? Is there any way the lock can be repaired?
    Thanks

      There's probably something stuck in the key cylinder or one of the tumbles is stuck.
      The cylinder can be disassembled (if I recall correctly) for cleaning or to recode to a different key (if need be).

    • @dharam4u2
      @dharam4u2 9 років тому

      After 3 hours, my mechanic took apart the door (like you did) and was able to repair lock tumbler. By repairing, he tapped it and put some degreasing solvent...I think. Wonder, if the tumbler could be pushed out from the hole on the side of the door?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 років тому

      Nilesh Dharamshi The key cylinder (that has the tumblers in it) can only be removed once the locking plate (behind the door handle) is moved... the inside door panel must come off and the window needs to go up.
      I had to remove the window & regulator so that I could remove the door lock module... the door handle & cylinder can be removed with the window & regulator still mounted, but you need to work through a small area to get at the back of the door handle. With the window & regulator removed from the door, there is a lot more room & visibility.

    I have a 99 audi a6 quattro, one night after coming home from work I tried to open the door but it didn't, I have to open it from the outside, can I do the job myself or need to take it to shop? Do you have a video on that? or how can I fix it?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 років тому

      guillermo aleman Following this video (not the greatest I know), you should be able to get the door panel off to see what is going on. Most likely the attachment to the inside door handle is the issue.

    Whats that program's name you're using to see how the repairs need to be done?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 років тому

      Adrian M That is "eBahn" by Bentley Publishers... they use VW / Audi factory information and compile it into a user friendly information system (running on windows XP, or a virtual XP machine like I use). If you go to erwin.audiusa.com/erwin/ create a free user profile, you can get 24hrs of access for $35 USD. Within that time, you can download Gb's of data in pdf form. Enter your vehicle vin number in the search options to make sure that the search results apply to your vehicle. I do this every year and download information for all the different vehicles... the eBahn software is nicer if you wish for a quicker search & find option, rather than looking through individual pdf files. I'll let you make the choice. www.bentleypublishers.com/ phone them (or email) and they will explain everything about the eBahn software.

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 років тому

      Adrian M I forgot to mention that for the eBahn software, you can purchase just one vehicle platform (such as the Audi C5) or you can buy eBahn Pro (which includes all VW & Audi platforms... but not the new vehicles, as eBahn is no longer further developed). Price for one platform is around $130 (shipped via DVD, you install it and then activate it via a license / serial number) or the eBahn Pro (which I have) for $1200.

      Thanks mate. I'm thinking about it as of investment to not spend money in the garage for repairs and do stuff myself... I'm not a mechanic but i like to do stuff myself sometimes :)

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  9 років тому

      Adrian M The pdf router (Erwin) is cheaper than the eBahn & less of a hassle (the need for an XP machine). Both options are great... I have both and use both. If & when you need special tools, look at the video description of my new videos, and you will find links to VW & Audi websites where you can buy / order genuine tools.

    The lock can be changed without removed the window carrier or removing the door handle. The Bently CD manual clearly shows this. Nice video though. I came back to it to get a look at that Gold plate which is not moving in my car. I was able to get my old Bently CD open and found the steps to remove the door lock. It clearly says disconnect the rod to the door handle, remove the bolts, and remove the lock in "downward direction, between door component carrier and front door shell" Perhaps removing the windows and door handle makes it easier? You judge that. I'll try without removing the door handle...Mike

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  8 років тому

      I was looking at Bentley instructions on my laptop (as seen in the video)... my English isn't that great (second language) so I probably misread. Let me know how it goes.

    • @michaelaronis8908
      @michaelaronis8908 8 років тому

      I left the handle and key cylinder in place. Certainly having the window carrier out of the way gave better access, but after doing it, clearly it can be done without removing the carrier. The key is tipping the lock mechanism such that the pin from the lock cylinder comes out. I think removing the window carrier adds a bit of time but does make it easier to see everything. I am very happy I did not have to mess with the gold sliding plate, mine was unmovable and was worried I would break something LOL. Now my Head Light's on buzzer works and the dome light comes on and the door curtesy lights work. :)

    • @EXOVCDS

      Michael Aronis Sorry if my reply sounded like I was not happy with your input (was not the case). I have not re-watched the video to see why I decided to remove as much as I did. Lock modules / actuators are sometimes not easy to maneuver... maybe I gave up and just decided that removing the window / frame was the quicker way to go.
      Keep in mind that stuff gets edited out, or I stop recording when I get stuck and then continue once I have more info.
      There are many things that I have not yet done on a lot of VW's & Audi's... I don't always do a repair the same way (unless it is essential to the repair).
      Thank you for watching!

    My only problem is my car doesn’t realize when my driver door is open so no lights activate or open door warnings . What part do I need to fix

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  4 роки тому

      Year, make, model? Either replace the door lock module / actuator or replace the micro switch (inside to door lock module / actuator) that determines door open / closed position. Official micro switches are not sold separately, but I have heard of people finding them (something that fits) at electronics parts stores.

    I have an Audi S6 2007 and when unlocked, sometimes the driver door does not open from the outside and needs to b opened from the inside. Once it's open, then it starts opening from outside after unlocking so basically this problem occurs when the car is locked for some time and then unlocked. Any help as to what the problem might be ?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  8 років тому

      +omer rana Try lubricating the lock / latch assembly with WD-40 or similar through the latch opening... if that does not work, you might have to end up removing the assembly for better access.

    • @muhammadomer4597
      @muhammadomer4597 8 років тому

      +Thomas EXOVCDS thank u for ur reply .. could u pls explain to me where the latch opening is and which assembly u r talking about?

    • @EXOVCDS
      @EXOVCDS  8 років тому

      omer rana The opening at 13:48 in this video (my left hand is holding a tool)... that's the latch assembly / lock module / lock actuator. Open the door, and spray wd/40 in there and then open & close the door several times. The door handle linkage can best be sprayed once the door panel etc is out of the way 11:55
