BB King will always be praised..and should be. But...this is the King of the blues for me. Freddy had the voice... so full of soul.. Taught the British guitarist what the blues is suppose to sound like. Without Freddie..would we of had a Clapton? He's so understated it's a shame..and a sin.
Without b.b. we wouldn't have had Green or Bloomfield... fair trade for Clapton methinks. People will dismiss b.b. for being overrated, but listen to the first three albums. it's unbelievable how good he was

Freddy will always be the King of King's for me as well. When I was 13 in a 5th floor apt in Bklyn NY, in my family's album collection I found Texas Cannonball. In the middle 100's of Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Jimmy Dorsey, Dean Martin, Count Basie, Frankie Valle, The Drifters & all of those doo wop albums, my parents had no idea how that blues album got there but it inspired me to become a musician & definitely changed my life
Freddie the real king of the blues, it was Freddie who influenced most british bands of the 60s including old slowhand himself.took my 1st wife to see him, met him as well a lovely fella I bet he is having a great jam up yonder.
Freddy King is my absolute favorite of the 3 Kings of Blues. The intensity of his playing coupled with that big voice, Good God!!!! Sends the juice down my leg
Interesting that Mayall had Clapton, Green, and Taylor all do a King piece on the 3 Bluesbreaker albums they were on. I presume Mayall was a big Freddy King fan too.
@@andrewz4537 that would be because Clapton cut that first one and it became a thing. Green liked Freddie too so he followed suit and then when Mick arrived, what was he gonna not do it?
the nerve of the MC to walk in front of one of the very best videos of superior blues is maddening . What a prat . If you want a wonderful collection look into Freddy King recordings .
I use to see Freddie King at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin Texas 2 or 3 times a year and man he was great , RIP Freddie King 👑, love you man, he was the inspiration for several young guitar heros , SRV, Eric Clapton , and the list goes on
When I watch/listen to the video of Clapton’s ‘Have You Ever Loved a Woman’ (live at the Fillmore East, IIRC), I can see how much of Freddie’s style has influenced him in this particular song and performance of it then! *** It was actually the first, and almost only, time that I’ve seen Clapton play with the emotion and feeling he did, when he normally plays like it’s a piece of cake 🍰 for him! But that’s just my impression 🤔
Freddie King was surprised by the first few licks he played and thought 'Oh shit that's the Woman Tone. Gotta crank the tone knob up!. Ah, now that's better!'
That “clown” is Bill “Hoss” Allen, creator and host of “The !!!! Beat,” the greatest R&B show ever aired. I agree his timing isn’t great at the end here, but the 26 episodes of the show, and the 20 years before that when he spun R&B tunes in Nashville, are worth something. I urge you to check out clips from Freddie King and many other soul and blues and R&B greats on “The !!!! Beat,” which is a very underrated treasure.
I'm pretty sure that's Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown playing the Jaguar/Jazzmaster in the background. My local library used to have the VHS tape of this show (a local Texas show) and they introduced the band at one point. Can anyone confirm this?
What was the name of the show/host? Respect, because, man, he brought a blues monster up on the stage that day ... Long live, Freddie King, The Texas Cannonball!

There are 3 Kings: B.B, Albert and Freddie.
@@RyanLBrown9396 no longer available, and the rest was history, and people were you doing for new years. I am a man from the UK. The only way I can see
I love all three kings! They all had their own take on the blues. As a guitar player I favored Freddy and Albert a little over BB...

I’m so pissed that I’m just now finding Freddie King and his greatness. Freakin amazing.
I swear, it just can’t get any better.
I was fortunate to grow up in Dallas listening to Freddie live at Mother Blues.
...lucky man you are!
That place was mentioned in the When Dallas Rocked documentary. Sounds like it was a great place for shows.

This is just fantastic. What a band and Freddy really playing and singing the blues.
RIP Freddie King (September 3, 1934 - December 28, 1976), age 42
You will be remembered as a legend.
One of the best 335 players to ever be on planet Earth.
Good lord that tone 0:09-0:13
Cranked Blond showman
Peter Green and Freddie King, same feelling for me, both played magical blues
Magical.....and Gary Moore on Peters guitar
Real blues from a real bluesman!
Just so we’re clear, Clapton owes all 3 kings a thank you
we all do
Al blues artists owe debits of gratitude to those that came before, what’s your point?
Absolutely true, and Slowhand himself is the first to acknowledge this.
He already gives a multitude of gratitude towards these
We all owe a thank you to Robert Johnson...
Compare his guitar playing to the John Mayall "Beano" album, and you can see how Clapton was channeling this guy. Great stuff.
Heard the same thing in the first few notes. SRV as well was a massive fan and I can hear SRV influence by Freddie King in Stevie's playing as well
L7
Clapton channelled him for a good portion of his career. Playing and vocals at times. Proudly so, I would say.
Interesting that Mayall had Clapton, Green, and Taylor all do a King piece on the 3 Bluesbreaker albums they were on. I presume Mayall was a big Freddy King fan too.

That second guitarist behind Freddy was havin a good time. love it!
Ryan Hudson The second guitarist is Clarence "Gatemouth" brown
Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown standing behind Freddie to the right playing the white Fender.
I been waiting for somebody to point that out. All those cats got started playing Gatemouth's "Okie Dokie Stomp" from the early 50s.
I still have one of Gatemouth's albums. I'll have to dig it out now :D
This is awesome! I love the three kings of blues. I don’t have a favorite; they’re all amazing.
Fabulous musician and one of a kind. Sure don't get artists of this calibre anymore.

Great music coming out of the soul of Freddie King & his band members. 👍✌😎
Freddie is so hardcore with it that Clapton used to think B.B was too pop oriented with his sound.
