Besides overall versatility.... comfort is the answer. Strats mold to your body and feel great.....335's and Les Paul's dig into your ribs (unless obese) and are like wrestling a pissed off lion while playing.
It's hard to get your head (or ears) around it? Why? I have no idea? He sounds so frigging amazing on that 335! OMG! Itr's sick. He's not the only one! There are many other rockers/bluesers, especially the older great Caucasoid 60's guys. Example: Townsend...etc. left their Gibsons at home.
There is a reason why the best of the best.... Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, SRV, Knopfler, the list goes on.... prefer strats.... besides comfort, it’s a much more expressive instrument. Every classic rock guy playing a Les Paul through a Marshall sounds the same.
@@scottcummings8602 Strats Sound great. Especially in Hedrix's hands and I also Stevie-Ray. I was too young to see Jimmy. But some players really bore me on Strats. I'd rather not hurt anyones opinions. Though on another subject, I've seen Santana at least fifty times going back to thew mid 70's. When Carlos switched to the PRS in the early 80's, he never sounded as good as he did before that PRS. A ruddy shame. That much I stand by.
Fair enough..... I believe Santana played a SG, then a Les Paul, then Yamaha’s through most of the mid 70s and early 80s..... you prefer his sound before he switched to PRS?
Absolutely. I was just going to type that. WAY more sound with the Gib than the Fender. (altho there are some great Strat players). Maybe Fender let's him take out the Gibson for 1 song here and there. What a difference.
Put your headphones on and just crawl into this. Blows your head clean off. If it doesn't make you sweat/cry/wet, something is really amiss in your concentration. Deep and true.
Totally agree 💯🎸🎤💙🤍💛 Such a humble English Gentleman also. I wish him & his beautiful wife & family continued love , happiness & blessings forever & a day 🙏🌹
Go back to The Cream Days with Gibson SG and ES-335 I wonder why I like Cream the most From Eric lol. One word "Gibson" Don't get me wrong he plays a Strat really well but the meat comes from him playing a Gibson. Tone for days.
All came from Eddie Cochran when he played milkcow blues live 1960. Bigjim Sullivan was Eddies backing guitarist. When Eddie got killed in 1960. Big jim went on to give lessons to Eric . Kieth Richards and many more . Cochran started the blues here live in the UK. Check Eddie out playing 1960 milkcow blues live
Saw him in concert twice. At one a guy sitting in front of me talking about the opening act said " This guy blows Clapton away". Knopfler opened for him. I told two guys I work with about it and whenever Knopfler comes on they remind me about it. We just laugh. In his own right Knopfler has a unique style but Clapton is Clapton. Listen to some of his music every day. His gift of talent is a gift for all of us.
Ridiculous number of viewers. Clapton may not have ‘evolved’ as a very few artists did, but his ability to play blues at its roots, to accompany anyone and everyone and his very special musical ear make him a portal to where great music leads us. He does it in his way, others in others..

Growing up in the ‘80s and hearing Clapton on classic rock-format radio, I couldn’t understand what was the big deal about him. “Lay Down Sally” and “Wonderful Tonight” sure didn’t sound like guitar heroics to me. And then he appeared on SNL in 1991 during the “Journeyman” era, soloing with that tight, smooth, singing Strat & Soldano sound. I had found the hero I was looking for.

This is probably a stupid question among so many other guitarists, but I'm a Fender guy. But is it possible this is the same 335 as he used on Rock and Roll Circus and the Cream farewell show (both in the last 2 months of 1968)?

I will never understand why he favours his Strat over a 335....WHAT A TONE!!!

That is the guitar he should have kept and played for the rest of his life.
Clapton is another beast with a Gibson. That's blues!
Even with a broomstick never mind a Gibson
Wow Eric Clapton has the blues wow factor 100%..
Mirific.!!!

So true! His playing seems to be inspired by the guitar.
The tone of this Gibson is so pure. Wish he’d use it more
That Gibson is a 1964 ES-335TDC that got sold in the Crossroads Auction for US$ 847.500,00. Pretty remarkable guitar if you ask me heh
He can afford another one. Joe Bonamossa could probably loan him one. His pretty good on a LP to.
Gibson: check
Cream mode: activated
Of course everybody is talking about his playing, but his singing here is a masterclass in soul and blues chops.
So cool to see him with that cherry red Gibson love that tone
This is the reason I just bought a 335
Same actually
Me too
Clapton at his very best , tone in that gibson is devine
Sometimes he sounds lazy and dull, but this was inspired and truly excellent.
I cannot agree ever!
He is my absolute hero. What a guitar player and what a singer. 😍 ❤
That Gibson man it’s like the way he plays it it’s oozing sexiness ❤
How clean is that my god

1st X I heard this song, Freddie king played it in a dive bar in SW okay. Eric Clapton just gives it the 5 star treatment.
Never as good as Freddie!!!!

Clapton with a Gibson = God's Not Dead
Gadd on the drums. Solid as a rock. Pocketized.

He definately has that extra special magic with that guitar and nobody can be Eric Clapton
Best Version Indeed
He is using all his famous techniques and the sound is incredible
This guy was born to play a Gibson
You can say that again a monster of a beast love you Clapton.
Beauty blues nr 1 în The World FOREVER
Eric Clapton mit Gibson Gitarren ist ein Genuss. Viel besser als mit Fender - Strat.
Clapton and his Gibson...Dvine. Clapton's on fire here as well. Quite agressive.
Outstanding performance👍✌
Eric, Eric where did you learn this? Tell somebody, tell everybody! Great stuff, Boy!
One if my favorite live songs by him.
Absolutly agree. ❤
shit, only 3k views , the best version of this song
There's another video with 3.4 million views
Nah, the original was the best but there's no video of that so we have to accept that this is the 2nd best (but only just :) )
Don’t know of any artist that could do it better
Wonderful Eric He is Magic when he plays and sings the blues 🎸🎸💖💖💖

Without a shadow of a doubt!
As good as he's always sounded on a Strat those old Gibson's like that were meant to play the blues
ode to Freddie king!

Simply awesome !! Thanks for this performance . we love you
