Freddie King was, and shall always remain, my favorite electric blues artist. He was so powerful. My piano playing pal. The late David Maxwell, told me many story's. About being on the road, with Freddie King. The many many card games. And how competitive Freddie was about cards. It truly, must have been something to see first hand. Because David Maxwell had a strong reputation, as a cutthroat card playing professional. I'm an old man now. And I miss Both of them guys. Freddie King, was very kind to me. As his mentor, and teacher, Robert Lockwood Jr. Was my adopted father, my mentor, my teacher , my beloved Daddy Robert. May God bless their eternal souls, always......
I had the distinct pleasure of buying Mr. Lockwood a drink at Sullys in Dearborn, after watching him perform. My wife and I then chatted amiably with him for a few minutes. It was in the early '90s. I had seen him at Hart Plaza several years prior. Mesmerizing player: that night, he weaved the riff from Sitting on Top of the World into many of his numbers. It was akin to hearing a symphony's theme. His backing of Sonny Boy Williamson on his Chess recordings is exquisite. He was truly a great, great artist. Oh, and he autographed an album I still have: 1 side him; the other Johnny Shines. God bless America.
I saw Freddie King performing in Paradiso Amsterdam 1974 . It was the show of my life, the audience was so exited, I'll never forget this event. This man is still a great inspiration to me (when I pick up my guitar and play a blues or two). Thank you Freddie, say hello to Stevie.
I grew up near Chicago and am blessed to have heard all of the Chicago greats in the 60s. I heard Freddie at a club in Ft Worth about a year before he passed away. It was an amazing experience, by the end of the evening we were drenched in the blues. RIP Texas Cannonball....
As good as it gets.. who knows which King was the better... they are all such treasures to me.. Thank God we had these guys around.. I wish I could've been around to see them. Theyve taught me everything I know. Rock In Peace brothers ✌🖤🤘🌹
Whew! Freedy King was all balls, man! All command! All deep fried soul! I mean, he squeezes out every emotion on that thang, don't he? Yes, m'am, she sho'ley do.
Incredible---- as a blues vocalist he had no equal---- he had that Grit--- at the same time -- such a beauty to voice--- he could shout the blues --- and get low down as well --- I think he was indeed the greatest blues singer their ever was ---- RIP Freddie thank you my brother
He was a blues genius. He had it all. The full package, and an energy no one else had. He's my favorite bluesman of all time, the true 'king' of the three kings.
Freddie King... For my money,he's really the man who invented what's come to be known as "Power Blues", and one of the major reasons I bought a Gibson ES-355. The "power wasn't strictly limited to his guitar playing...what a robust, passionate vocalist he was, also ! We lost him WAY too young... Great post !
Long time B.B.King drummer in one of his early pro gigs!! One of my top blues drummers ever!!...Calep Emphrey Jr. Also played with Little Milton and a short time with Albert King
Awwwww hell YEAH!!! That's some cold ass blues right there! Freddie was a major influence on Clapton, SRV, Gary Moore, Walter Trout, "Smokin' " Joe Kubek, Tab Benoit, and too many others to count.
That's some sweet tickling of the ivories right there.....Freddie could sing couldn't he...man could he belt it out. Oh..nearly forgot...sweetest blues player ever. Love his picking style.
This song "The Things I Used To Do" has been for over four decades one of my all-time favourite blues favourites. Freddie King's version does very well when compared to Buddy Guy's record-breaking rendition on his "live" album "This Is Buddy Guy". But especially, thanks to you - the original composer of this masterpiece - Guitar Slim!
+Simon Smith Stole? No. He took them and altered them as his own, just as BB, Freddie, and Albert took licks from those who came before him and altered them as their own. Pretty sure B.B and especially Albert wouldn't have liked SRV as much as they did had he simply been ripping them off.
M. Goetz That's right I should watch everything I type on here, because people cant see facial expressions in text. I also take my favorite licks from my favorite players and adjust them to fit my own personality and needs. Sorry I used the wrong verbiage.
Simon Smith You're fine, it's just hard to tell when people are being serious or not, especially when there are a good few people who just say Vaughan was a rip off of all those above. Most of those people don't realize that most guitar players take their favorite licks and phrases and change them as their own. It's just how it's always been.
Freddie king es sublime..tiene un carisma que lo destaca ...para mi es mi rey del blues...freddie king donde estes te agradesco por crear musica tan hermosa y que llegue al corazon...gracias genioooo
Always amazed , and sad that he has left us . Freddie was the greatest Bluesman ever , and he is the one I was influenced by the most ! His quirky stops and starts , always tell a story , and his voice had no equal ! He is my hero , and I miss him !
Nice clip. Here are the band members. Alvin Hemphill - Hammond, Calep Emphrey - Drums, Benny Turner - Bass, Ed Lively - Guitar and Lewis Stephens - Piano.
There is plenty of complexity in blues music, it all depends on how narrow your vision of the blues is. People like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton took the blues into new territory with the experience and cream.
I have Freddie King's "Sings", I've listened to his "Getting Ready" album, and I've watched lots of great Freddy King live youtubes; I've also grown up with John Mayal, Peter Green Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin, you name it, but this is such a great blues power live performance . . . oh wow;

Awesome! Please share more stories about Freddie!

I would love to hear more of your story
Blues vocalist raised by musicians, this is pure medicine 🎼💙🥰
Greg and Steve! Your right on! Freddie King was the best bluesman and guitar player. Stevie Ray had that mojo too!
He should write a book
I was into punk rock first, somehow got lucky and found blues music.
Because it all leads back to blues.... All the music we love leads back to these Blues Legends
same
bless you baby
Sounds like the bones of a good song😂😂
Let's take some time to appreciate that piano
Maxwell, monster
This guy had more talent in his little finger then most of these modern day pop stars combined!
Boy do I agree with you!
Not only could he play a mean guitar the man could sing as well
One of the greatest players and singers that ever stepped on a stage, or off.
I don't have a favorite 'King'.
Just depends on what mood I'm in.
All 3 are great
Yep. Lean toward Freddie just because he died so much younger.
What a badass way to kick off a sultry jam.
Fuck.
Found Mr. King hidden on my Goddaughter"s playlist, now THIS be someone to fall asleep singing along with..
Oh my.... 👋👋👋😆🎸🎶🎤🎵👋

it ain't what you play, it's how you play it. simplicity is genius...
Sang and played the blues like his life depended on it. Lots of Passion and heart.
The greatest bluesman of all time. The feeling that he expressed in each chord, his voice. Incomparable!
Freddie King..a guitar legend..a singer and song writer..an ole time GREAT...r u with me?
Freddie played the "old school"style of blues pickin'.Thumb pick and fingers. Awesome!!
OMG
What on earth ?
There is no peer to Freddie King !
very happy to see that clapton nicked some of freddies attributes, keeps the man alive, what a great bluesman!...long live Freddie!

+Murp h Um, he was a pretty good blues guitar player too.
He was a blues genius. He had it all. The full package, and an energy no one else had. He's my favorite bluesman of all time, the true 'king' of the three kings.
Murp h agreed. Also the greatest blues player
I agree, the best blues singer. He had it all!
Murp h Agreed. i loved Albert singing those ballads but Freddie had that damn power man..and finesse....what a talent
The most UNDERRATED bluesman of all time!!!!!!!!!!
Googled the word SOUL and it led me here.
DEADHEAD712 I did the same and the first entry was 'You have none. Now fuck off'. I cried for a week.
The word SOUL definitely leads here!!
A great cover of a great song. One of Freddie’s best, and the piano hpgets it just right.
Dear Lord..this guy and his voice gives me chills. Love him,one of the greatest
Freddie King...
For my money,he's really the man who invented what's come to be known as "Power Blues", and one of the major reasons I bought a Gibson ES-355.
The "power wasn't strictly limited to his guitar playing...what a robust, passionate vocalist he was, also !

Great post !
Albert king is the originator of blues power no disrespect to freddie king
The three kings! It’s a subjective choice that changes every week!
That intro was so badass, I laughed outloud. Damn, what a master!
Freddie always makes me holler ❤️ can't nobody lay this blues down like Freddie. I mean I got my hands up like the church ladies.
The best intro I've heard in my life. Only had like three notes but damn the power he had.
Saw Freddie in a small club in 1974 in E. Lansing Mich. He tore it up...RIP Freddie, The Texas Cannonball
Ledgend! Can't stop listening to this, amen. 🙏
RIP and long live Freddie King (September 3, 1934 - December 28, 1976), aged 42
You will always be remembered as a legend.

They just don’t understand and probably never will?
Freddie, the greatest KING.
Long time B.B.King drummer in one of his early pro gigs!! One of my top blues drummers ever!!...Calep Emphrey Jr. Also played with Little Milton and a short time with Albert King

Freddie King is the truth
That's some sweet tickling of the ivories right there.....Freddie could sing couldn't he...man could he belt it out. Oh..nearly forgot...sweetest blues player ever. Love his picking style.
BB and Freddie are both cool, but this is the King!
what about albert

There is plenty of complexity in blues music, it all depends on how narrow your vision of the blues is. People like Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton took the blues into new territory with the experience and cream.
