    Those who say that the creation of this master piece was a wast of time and effort have no idea what art or passion is, and I pity them, as they likely have little enjoyment in life because of that fact.
    And those who say that they should have spent their money and time on other people are hypocrites, because you are no saint, and the charity work the owners of this work of art are doing now is likely more than you've done in your life.
    Each piece in this doll house was hand crafted, undoubtedly the work of an artist throwing their all into their own passion of creating, and to see the work of so many come together in such a way is a privilege to behold, and those who don't understand that are terribly privileged themselves not to recognize it.

      @@prplram of course, it'd be more strange if people don't appreciate this. It's a freaking masterpiece and every piece is crafted and it works, books you can read, jewelry with real gemstones, mini bottles filled with actual spirits, the amount of thought and detail put into it is crazy

      A glorious masterpiece and inspiration to those of us who try to create, no matter how meager our budjets. Too, most of the dolls houses of high caliber have historically been displayed to raise money for charitable causes.

    Please fire that interviewer immediately. Glad that lady handled her own and calmly explained. She’s probably the type that only lets her kids play sports and nothing else. That house took so much time and effort it’s really a work of art.

    The reporter was very rude. I also think she was confused and she didn't understand how much time and effort goes into making a doll house; let alone one to this degree. But that is no excuse for being rude I think it would have been more appropriate for someone else to have done the interview.

      haha, no. those are not toys, they were not created to be such and if they were played with they would break even in gentle hands. like the original dollhouses this one is not a toy for playing but a piece of art that is meant to express the societal ideals of housekeeping and home ownership in a very flagrant and ostentatious way. this is as much a 'toy' as a baker's oven

    • @GoddessMisfit
      @GoddessMisfit 7 років тому +8

      technopoptart but bakers make things in their ovens as a job, what are you supposed to do with a doll house? and if it's not a toy then whys it called a doll house when people are supposed to play with dolls?

    • @technopoptart
      @technopoptart 7 років тому +13

      and running a home used to very much be a job(for some people it still is). doll houses, up until the 1900s were primarily teaching aids and proof of income. the youth would have the house to learn the proper placement and function of things while the house itself stood as a testament to the quality of actual home the adults kept
      also, dolls serve many functions outside of just 'play'. you are attaching a very limited and contemporary view of dolls onto a very old institution(though even now there are many dolls that are not made to be played with). dolls have functioned as teaching tools for many millennia and houses for dolls have been around nearly as long
      also, i did not claim that all persons who own a baker's oven are bakers. some people like to buy things they dont need/use just to have them, like a baker's oven

    I have put together a dollhouse and decorated it with paint/ wallpaper/ lights & soforth as well as bought and make items . It truly is a joy and (not going to lie) a little irritating at times but just seeing the love and time spent on these works or art of people of all ages is truly awe inspiring . I love when i see children get involved with design as well as set up of rooms and play . Everyone has their own hobby and as long as we can experience and learn from others interests it's all good. Just be respectful and open your mind to crafters of all mediums.

Lived in San Francisco, was big in the Miniature Society, and was in charge of costumes at the Bohemian club. Smoked, got emphysema, and lived on an oxygen tank for five years before passing.

    I know this is old, but for those of you who don't make miniatures and/or dollhouses, tiny things are expensive. The food on that table alone probably cost over $200. The rugs and carpets were probably a few hundred more. Then you factor in building materials that run into hundreds, for a much smaller house and multiply that by 28 for all the rooms. A genuine silver tea service - oof. I won't even price them. This builder obviously spared no expense and I can see this adding up into 8 million. I'm remodeling a house from 1890 and I'm already a few hundred dollars into it; it's still a shell. There's nothing inside - the walls are bare wood planks, the floors are bare, the 36 windows each need to be restored and dressed. It has five doors, five porches, three floors, everything. I'll be several thousand into it until all is said and done. Teeny tiny infant dolls run from $20 up into the hundreds. Dog figures, nice ones, are also a mint. As the woman said, it adds up.

    2023- I enjoyed re-watching this video. It reminded me of why I started building Barbie doll houses from cardboard- it is my passion. It allows me to express my creativity. I love doing it with cardboard boxes because they are strong and last. When I am through I can throw them away. The furniture I make I can store and keep. Any furniture I purchase I can store and keep. Building Barbie doll houses is a work of art and a OOAK. Building any doll house is a work of art! I love this doll house. Beautiful.

I understand that the owners did not spent 8.5 million on this project. I have over 80 dollhouses in my collection and I always buy them for less and then customize them with my crafting skills and attention to detail and it makes them worth so much more in the end! They are a great investment! I have dollhouses I purchased and renovated that went from being worth $20 to thousands of dollars! That is the power of talent and creativity! I hope they generate lots of money for the children's charity! It's such a great attraction to bring awareness for the kids and to help raise money for their charity! Thank you for sharing! I know that I'm late to the party here, but I feel compelled to make a comment. The reporter obviously doesn't know anything about the fact that making certain miniatures is an art form. I became aware of this years ago, and have seen some incredible examples of this in a toy and miniature museum in Kansas City Mo. There are pieces of furniture and even an entire room from the Palace of Versailles that are absolutely exquisite! As far as I'm concerned, they have every bit as much value as famous and costly paintings, sculptures, etc. Most people just don't have any clue about the skill required to replicate these items in miniature.

    Doesn't hold a candle -of any size- to the Queen's dollhouse. In it, you will NOT find bulky, cheap looking miniatures (like that stool featured above at timestamp 2:17. though, the sofa is well made). In the Queen's dollhouse, everything is perfectly proportioned -and, if it's supposed to, works as it should. Also, check out the traveling White House miniature.

    Some people are multi billionaires and to them this is pocket change but to most this could house a few people or set a family up for life. They are not wrong for spending this kind of money on a dolls house if they have never known any different they are not at fault..... they can not help the life they was born into any more then the poorest of people can. I personally would not spend such huge life Changing amounts on such an item as I know what it's like to go without bare essentials at points in my life. If they got to see how others lived it would change their views, but I think it's lovely they have shared this so others can see and enjoy and appreciate it's beauty. What a thoughtful lovely thing to do.

    It's interesting to see but I love a different style. And a workhouse is a hobby in which you spend money over the years. I really don't want to know HOW MUCH MONEY I have spent over the years in my doll collection. But it doesn't mean that you can sell it for this.

    Reminds me of The Secret World of Arrietty and The Borrowers. In that someone was so intrigued with the little people that they made tiny scale working models of ton's of things just for the Borrowers. Of course they never took them because they were unique and believed that they would be missed if taken. But still that would be interesting to see.

    8.5 million is a *subjective* number: as in it's the price tag the owners *wish*. It's not what it cost them to make it, and it's not what the market price would be. For collectables, it's only worth what the highest bidder is willing to pay.

    AWESOME!! I LOVE DOLLHOUSES!! NOT FOR DOLLS BUT TO IMAGINE BEING THAT SMALL AND LIVING IN IT. MY SISTER SAT ON MINE WHEN WE WERE SMALL GIRLS AND I HIT HER!! I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON A HOUSE SINCE 1986 AND EVERY TIME I MOVE SOMEBODY ELSE BREAKS IT. LAST TIME I WAS ALMOST FINISHED! NOW I HAVE TO GO BACK YEARS OF WORK JUST TO GET IT WHERE IT WAS. PEOPLE ARE AMAZED AT THE DETAILS, THE SMALL THINGS THEY DIDN'T EXPECT AND THE FACT THAT I MADE IT FROM SCRATCH.
