When you said, "What would Christine McConnell do," I thought, "She'd probably bake individual shingles out of gingerbread, each with a unique design copied directly from historically-accurate examples of Victorian wallpaper, but with her own spooky spin of including a bat or a mouse in the corner of each, only visible with a magnifying glass that she.cast out of poured sugar...." and then I got tired just from thinking about the work that goes into her (and your) projects and got a snack.

As someone who is a baker but also does decoden, here's some tips: The icing tip goes inside of the bag lol. You cut the tip of the bag off, put the icing tip inside and then put your silicone in the bag. You can twist the top of the bag, rubber band it, zip tie it etc to keep the silicone from oozing out the top and it also gives you more control of the bag with applying pressure. If you ever want to add color to your silicone you can use mica or oil based paint, no water-based colors because it will cause the silicone to seize up and then you cant pipe it!

Tip if you ever find yourself doing icing like this again: cut a hole in the pastry bag/sandwich bag and put the tip inside the bag so the tip of it comes out the hole, then twist the bag above the icing/caulk and squeeze with your hand on top of the bulb of icing/caulk. You'll get more control this way and won't have to hold the tip in place! This is how I was taught to ice cake/cookies when I worked in a bakery. :)

    • @apriljk6557
      @apriljk6557 9 місяців тому +43

I imagine she tried it that way but had caulking come out around the tip because of it's thickness. Someone had the idea to double bag. Put the caulk in its own bag and then use another to hold the tip in place.

I love it so much!!!! Heads up about the windows. I make doll rooms and accessories, and you can use clear plastic packaging or old clear take out containers for windows. To get a melty distorted effect you can add a tiny bit of paint to some mod podge or clear glue and paint it on the plastic in swirly patterns. When it drys is looks like tinted uneven glass. You can also do multiple thick layers for a water effect!

Just a few notes. I love it. Frozen art is absolutely the perfect style house. Since its not edable, you could spray it with christmas tree flocking or fake snow. I would definitly look at places where the details lack and glue on some fake candies. Overall its great!

You can use a rubberband to close the open end of a piping bag up. That's what we did when I worked in a bakery.
Just twist & then folder over the open end (be sure not to over fill your bag, you can always add more later) and then put your rubberband on.

In the future, for stained glass looking windows, I highly recommend laminate sheets and sharpie markers. Run the laminate through by itself and it makes a nice shiny, flexible plastic sheet. Love the whimsy in this project!

First time here: love your having-so-much fun personality. Like you, I was amazed at how it went from Disney Colorland to warm, gingerbread villa when you “baked” it brown. I agree with the other comments about Christmas trees. I love the idea of gum drops and hope you also consider miniature green swags and fairy lights or mini lanterns. Thank you for the happiness and mood lifting.

This is amazing! It's so big, but now all your Little Guys™ have a place to live!
The Frozen house was a good choice of base :D all the moulded details look wintery and Christmassy naturally!
Even real gingerbread houses made by hand have these "imperfections", so it really really works. This was a joy to watch!
Also, I will absolutely be stealing that line "you took a DNA test and Bob is, in fact... your uncle" 😂

You may want to try this the next time you want to pipe something. When using a ziplock or other kind of bag first cut a small part of the corner off. Then open the bag and insert tip in the cut corner. The amount that you have cut off should be small enough to hold the tip in there all by itself but not block the tip opening. Next put in what ever you are using for piping. Doing it in this order will keep the tip on and the piping contents flowing the way that you would like. Nice house. Good work.

This is such a BETTER way to do gingerbread houses withoit having to assemble a house out of cookies that are hard to attach.
I rather bake soft gingerbreadmen cookies to eat than make a house out of those hard to eat gingerbread house cookie kit you get at Target or Walgreens.

Hi Rachel, just wanted to let you know it's so nice seeing yourself be generous with yourself. Did I realise you were being a bit not-as-perfectionist about this project? After having watched your channel for years: probably. Is it still freaking adorable and absolutely beautiful? Definitely! I love your stuff when you go absolutely batsh*t crazy about the details and I love it just as much when you just let it be whatever it turns out and it makes me so confident to just try out stuff for myself without worrying about the outcome and just enjoy creating for the sake of it. So thanks for that I guess and sorry for the rambling!

The typical method for making gingerbread houses in Europe is using gelatin sheets that can easily be made into stained glass by painting it with food coloring.
