I'm 42 years old, I was and still am an 80's rock and metal fan. Van Halen ruled the 80's!!!! They were my favorite band! Other groups that I liked were Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Ozzy, Boston, Scorpions, Kiss, ACDC, Judas Priest, Queensryche, Metallica and Quiet Riot..to name a few.....The 80's was the BEST time for rock and heavy metal!!!!!!
Are you kiddin me.... the 70's was the best Rock era by far... and AC|DC particularly with Bon Scott were the best, or Rolling Stones early 70's, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath...all 70's not 80's
Marantz Stones Most of the bands I mentioned actually started out in the 70's, so I can't really argue too much with you. I guess its because I was born in 1971, and didn't get into rock until the 80's hit. Like I said, many of the 80's rockers had albums in the 70's.
I'm an eighties child too and both eras were great for Rock. 70ies and 80ies. And no: VH didnt rule the eighties. They had one "hit". Maiden, the 'DC, even Metallica had more at that time. VH: Jump AC/DC: Hells Bells, You Shook Me All Night Long, Back In Black, Thunderstruck even Highway To Hell came out big in 1980 even though it was a 1979 song. Maiden: Two Minutes To Midnight, Run To The Hills, Number Of The Beast (to name but a few).
Lol, AC/DC ruled the eighties. They played more gigs in the eighties than VH their whole short life (let alone record sales). And nowadays kids ask you what VH is. Its like comparing Qiet Riot to Metallica.
And yes: the seventies were much better for Rock. Ok, a few good albums were released in the eighties, I'll give you that. But they all were released before 1984. After that, even mighty AC/DC released shit like Fly On The Wall. Listen to former Gods like Sabbath, Kansas or say Maiden. They all released "not so good albums" from the mid eigthies on and some much worse later on. From mid seventies to mid eigthies Rock was at its top. Then came hair bands, grunge or punrock shit. Not my cup of tea, but if you like it...
I remember this like yesterday.....throwing up in the heat of the summer.....drenching some poor bloke with my 2 ltr bottle of hot piss as I threw it at a bunch of crazy lads whom annoyed my bunch of mates, jumping up on to the stage while gary moore played and being thrown off by security. and one of my mates who went especially to see ac/dc and passed out through all of their set.....yep!.....pure rock n roll.... :)
was there.remember all the plastic bottles in the air before van halen came on! motley crue and van halen were good but then there was acdc topping the bill who were awesome.
Thanks for posting this, it takes me right back. Me and my mate Paul were there, highlights as I remember (long time ago) were Ozzy, we were all into "bark at the moon" album at the time!, Van Halen were great I remember David Lee Roth swinging swords around stage. The highlight had to be AC/DC, great stage with an enourmos bell and Angus running up and down the stage playing "whole lotta rosie", excellent. Didn't enjoy the bottles of piss flying around though!!
this was my second monsters of rock and it takes me back to when rock was rock & not just a 'label' modern chart groups class themselves as. let their be rock.........live on!!!!!
Bloody typical BBC hatchet job, so 'profound and amusing', sending Kershaw to a metal gig laughing behind his hand, we had to endure jonathon King and simon bates also, self righteous TV, no joy, no appreciation of how great all these bands were/are, I was there, will never forget it.
I was at this concert in "84 and remember it well! I remember 3 things vividly...the heat...the air filled with bottles and sleeping on top of a van! Happy days! Oh and the ticket cost £7.50!!
I was there too - were you in the crush at the end of Ozzy's set? That was frightening. Van Halen were slightly below par (a friend/mega-fan had better-sounding bootlegs) but it was probably due to the imminent spiit and it was still a privilege to see them. AC/DC too... we were watching legends, man.
i was there , my first monsters of rock, ozzy was fantastic, fell asleep during van halen pissed right up , can't believe i did that , missed one of the great acts of the last 30 years
Holy shit. Holy. Fuckin. Shit. AC/DC, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Gary fuckin Moore, Y&T and Accept all on the same bill?! do you know what kind of ungodly obscene things i would do to go back in time and be there!? wish i could've been born 30 years earlier.
Can you believe I just saw myself as a 19 yr old at 09:12 dodgy haircut and all!! There was this massive Hells Angel guy in front of me and my mates at the beginning of the Van Halen set, he was a bit sqaushed, as we all were, he turned round and had a bottle opener turned inside out, we all created space for him.......what a gig, what a haircut!
For those complaining about Dave YOU'RE NOT a true Van Halen fan because if you were you'd know that that's just his shtick! If you want to hear songs exactly like on the album you might as well stay home!
I was wondering, where have you seen the tape/video of Eddie playing backstage? Is it on youtube? That would be some amazing footage of the original VH line up backstage at Donington 84.
Arrh was at Donington 84 to see Van Halen..AC/DC...WHAT AN AMAZING TIME.Realised Dave LeeRoth was a tit, an my all time rock gods just done there stuff , never cease to amaze.
I actually have met Nikki, and he is one of the nicest guys, kindhearted, down to earth, and genuinely caring about others, tabloids and the rest of the press are going to give any heavy metal musician of that stature a bad rap.
Van Halen = Heavy Metal Rock, Revolutionized guitar music of the mid to late 80s, early 90s, singer change, not as much albums as AC/DC. AC/DC = Rock N Fucking ROLL, Angus' duck walk legendary! Loads of albums since their debuts, R.I.P. BON. Brians Voice went 1988 onwards! Case solved.
That's true, there might be some influence but it isn't major. Van Halen started in 1976 btw, and were big in California by the end of the 70's. AC/DC also started getting big in the mid-late 70's. There could always be at least some influence as you go on. It's really not a big deal.
@Baseballer027 I agree. I'm not somebody who thinks something is only good if I'm headbanging to it or it's really heavy, but when people try to bash a band by pointing a select few songs and use those to generalize the band's entire catalogue is COMPLETELY stupid. When people bash Van Hagar, they say it was nothing but ballads. I respond with "Did you ever listen to the FUCK album or the majority of OU812 or the heaviness on Balance?"
@RNRDOLL Dokken, Crue, VH, and AC/DC were always considered hard rock. At the time there was good heavy metal too, like Dio, Helloween,. I like both styles. Too bad we don't have a lot of good bands as before. We have some. We have Firewind(ozzy's axe).
It's actually cool how they're such different bands, when you look at the key players. Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin then Black Sabbath at the top. And Alice Cooper always getting ripped off... lol
@Baseballer027 Loss of control beats the SHIT out of any modern thrash type of vibe and I love Pantera ect.Why does anyone think Dime is buried with one of Ed's geetars?
Van Halen really made some amazing stuff with Sammy, some people just never gave it a chance, because the biggest hits were softer than the old DLR they just started bashing and @satchitysach Dime was buried with Ed's Charvel because he always wanted one of his guitars.
1:46 what a great, quick-witted comeback from Diamond Dave!
I'm 42 years old, I was and still am an 80's rock and metal fan. Van Halen ruled the 80's!!!! They were my favorite band! Eddie was so flawless on guitar back then.
What a lineup. If only I had a time machine!
I sure miss those times!! THE BEST BANDS & MUSIC ON THE PLANET 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘THE BEST MEMORIES OF MY YOUTH 🤘🤘🤘
It was a great gig ! I was rocking to V Halen and Ac/dc and ozzy and Gary Moore were also great ! A long day and lot of flying bottles!
remember just getting home from 2 weeks in ibiza then going strait too this gig y & t blew everybody away quiet superb
Makes me feel old. I looked up to these bands as my elders and revered them (still do), and now looking back, they were all such kids.
was there.remember all the plastic bottles in the air before van halen came on! motley crue and van halen were good but then there was acdc topping the bill who were awesome.

We need a show like this nowadays, I'd be tuning in
These guys have great wit...has to always be present in the greats.
2 bands with great sense of humours...''joyous'' - that's absolutely spot on and still why I love them both 32 years later
this was my second monsters of rock and it takes me back to when rock was rock & not just a 'label' modern chart groups class themselves as.
let their be rock.........live on!!!!!

Mark Robinson I was in that crush too, very scary indeed... but what a great ozzy show it was
My first festival as a 17 year old ! Fantastic memorys :)
Awesome....thanks for showing that....
Van Halen is so kick ass on here. Party time runaway train. They don't make rock and roll bands like that anymore.
"Party time runaway train" is a classic way to call it.
I didnt go but everyone had that t-shirt on at school the next Monday.
@bonfirejovi what about loss of control or unchained...?
Eddie? Playing a bit sloppy? Love it!!!! Eddie is the best!
i was there , my first monsters of rock, ozzy was fantastic, fell asleep during van halen pissed right up , can't believe i did that , missed one of the great acts of the last 30 years
i was ten.a few years before i got into rock. wish i could go back in time and go there
Crazy version of Hot for teacher, very fast and angry, Van Halen at his best!!
Thank you.
Just saw Van Halen a few months ago. Eddie's got that smile back. He sounded great.
Holy shit. Holy. Fuckin. Shit. AC/DC, Van Halen, Motley Crue, Gary fuckin Moore, Y&T and Accept all on the same bill?! do you know what kind of ungodly obscene things i would do to go back in time and be there!? wish i could've been born 30 years earlier.

The song is 'Drop Dead Legs' by Van Halen (from the album '1984'). Great album!
i was there. i lived through this!
This young guy is a great interviewer/presenter!
For those complaining about Dave YOU'RE NOT a true Van Halen fan because if you were you'd know that that's just his shtick!
If you want to hear songs exactly like on the album you might as well stay home!
was it one of his picks that he performed with? or did it come as a pkge w/ the other stuff you mentioned?
Man, that is the only 1984 pro-tour footage of a complete song that I have seen. Special celluloid.
look like a great time!!! MOTLEY CREW !!!!! FOREVER...
All I got to say in 2010. AC/DC! The guys are world class. The best band ever. Period!!!!!!
Was right down the front and they were awesome.....Symone!
yes it was here on you tube you'll have to search it out..
Here in GErmany it was Accept, except for YnT which I really have liked to see.
I ask myself, watching this video, where is VHs bass. I cant hear it.
AC/DC & Van Halen are great
I was wondering, where have you seen the tape/video of Eddie playing backstage? Is it on youtube? That would be some amazing footage of the original VH line up backstage at Donington 84.
@quadralerium rock 'n roll , IS all about attitude !!!!!
Love how they show Anthony and the crowd through most of Ed's solo.
Wow! Greatest original guitarist since Jimmy.
I've met him and he's a super nice guy
they smoked em back then.. theyre doing it again!! I love Van halen!!! They're back!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats one sick concert. Van Halen tearing up.
The good old days...
ahh , those were good times , damn good times
They should re-create that top 3 line-up for next years download - AC/DC Van Halen Ozzy
I saw this in 84 and would defo go see it again in 09
Arrh was at Donington 84 to see Van Halen..AC/DC...WHAT AN AMAZING TIME.Realised Dave LeeRoth was a tit, an my all time rock gods just done there stuff , never cease to amaze.
Mummmm
I actually have met Nikki, and he is one of the nicest guys, kindhearted, down to earth, and genuinely caring about others, tabloids and the rest of the press are going to give any heavy metal musician of that stature a bad rap.
is that steve berry interviewing ac/dc?
speshal ed sure was one of the best of the original wankering around guitarists 👍🏻
Van Halen = Heavy Metal Rock, Revolutionized guitar music of the mid to late 80s, early 90s, singer change, not as much albums as AC/DC.
AC/DC = Rock N Fucking ROLL, Angus' duck walk legendary! Loads of albums since their debuts, R.I.P. BON. Brians Voice went 1988 onwards!
Case solved.
AC DC rules!!!
i love how laid back acdc are
does anyone know the name of the song playing at 04:27?
wish I was at this show !!!!!
That's true, there might be some influence but it isn't major. Van Halen started in 1976 btw, and were big in California by the end of the 70's. AC/DC also started getting big in the mid-late 70's. There could always be at least some influence as you go on. It's really not a big deal.
"Somebody brought me a book from America." Not North America, not South America, not The United States. The world was huge in 1984.
Geezzzz....Angus and Brian barley move...then to show that Motley Interview......now thats rock n roll.
Eddies guitar playing is really quite fresh and clear here...Things would change in the end though, its always a matter of time...Gerry...
Wasn't this the last or next to last show the original DLR Van Halen ever played?
I WASNT THERE THAT DAY !!!
RIP Eddie.
whats is the song at 1:51
When the Motley Crue are speaking, the background sound is Accept, trying to blow the public heads!
@Baseballer027 I agree. I'm not somebody who thinks something is only good if I'm headbanging to it or it's really heavy, but when people try to bash a band by pointing a select few songs and use those to generalize the band's entire catalogue is COMPLETELY stupid. thank god for vh and ac.
@quadralerium I thought that was what Rock and Roll was all about?? 90% attitude, 10% ability.
whats the song at 150?
@bacalex61 YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD!!
@sean1121970 I agree. Motley Crue. They took 80's metal and made it worth a mockery!
@shlabotnikj gosh, sir, your logic is impeccable! why, whoever thought that one could singlehanded shoot down an argument with virtually no points!
@packeropie Drop dead legs off the 1984 album
they r going on a world tour in 2010 they might come to the uk
VAN HALEN IS THE BEST BAND EVER
i missed Donjngton 1984... hmm why was that oh i remeber now i was two years old.
..part 1 anyone please and thanks for posting this.
@therollinstones Drop Dead Legs from the 1984 album.
I was there. 16 years old, sunburnt and pissed as a fart. Wonderful.
"...and we get paid a lot" lol Al Van Halen, god bless you. Where were Mike and Eddie I wonder?
I ended up backstage at this completely by accident
Fuck yeah ACCEPT rocking out !!!
can somebody jog my memory and tell me the name of the VH song being played at about the 2:05 mark? please and thank you.
"Drop Dead Legs" off of the 1984 album. There you go!
It's actually cool how they're such different bands, when you look at the key players. Van Halen, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin then Black Sabbath at the top. And Alice Cooper always getting ripped off... lol
I was there in those days, and it is a fact. A lot of people liked Glam Rock, but that was the UK/NY real deal, not the LA light version.....
I LOVE WOLFGANG'S RICK! AND I LOVE ANGUS! BOTH BANDS ARE AWESOME!!!!!!
For all the talk of Heavy Metal I did not see one Heavy Metal band in this video. I saw some awesome bands but no Metal bands.
RIP Maurice Jones
Van Halen baby all the way..
that song is drop dead legs from VH
@Baseballer027 Loss of control beats the SHIT out of any modern thrash type of vibe and I love Pantera ect.Why does anyone think Dime is buried with one of Ed's geetars?
Accept are on stage playing "Lovechild" from 4:00 ...
whos van halen? is that clothing line?
Van Halen really made some amazing stuff with Sammy, some people just never gave it a chance, because the biggest hits were softer than the old DLR they just started bashing and @satchitysach Dime was buried with Ed's Charvel because he always wanted one of his guitars.
