This was highly entertaining. Mario actually happens to be my favorite series (although Pokémon is an extremely close second), and I'd love to see more Mario reviews from you in the future! Great job, my man.
The way you are with Mario is the same for me and the Zelda series! The plan is to go from 64 up to Galaxy 2 and as a huge Mario fan myself I’m excited to spend the holidays with the old Plumber! Glad you enjoyed this one Toby!
Wait?! Entering that level with the clock at a specific time would change the speed of the level?! I never knew that. I thought my game was just glitched😂
The DS version is far superior and actually adds even more fun explorative elements and puzzles to figure out, which I think really helped make it stand apart from Nintendo’s other modern remakes
I really enjoyed the review. You did great with describing your fond memories of Mario 64, and also describing the game's pros & cons. I've had similar feelings about Donkey Kong 64's exploration focused gameplay back when I first played it.
I never played 64 actually until the Switch port. Unfortunately, I kinda disliked it. The camera is an obvious nuisance mentioned by most people, but in general I found Mario's movement finicky. I understand that he probably has the most robust movement compared to even the later games, except maybe Odyssey, but it just never really clicked with me. I found myself racing to get 70 stars to beat it so I could move on to Sunshine. I found myself getting frustrated by many stars, and generally was very afraid of falling/messing up. In contrast to say Galaxy, where I feel I'm complete control and can run on the most precarious ledges, in 64 I felt like I had to practically crawl when things got tight, because Mario is slippery. I also don't like the many stars where I had no idea what to do/where to go with what I felt where few hints. I guess I just prefer more linear Mario games like Galaxy. I ended up returning to the game after sunshine and galaxy and got the 120 stars. I did gain some modicum of skill and can see the charm, but ultimately it's not for me.
The physics and controls did not age well. I still had a lot of fun with it but if you don’t have any nostalgia to the game it’s probably difficult to enjoy fully.
Amazing review Stan. Loved taking this nostalgia trip. I miss when games were proper games without any micro transactions and so much effort was put into the story and not cheap gimmicks.
It’s so cool that you got a sneak peak at the editing process on this one. I agree about the DLC and micro transactions stuff man. Nowadays they’d want us to pay for 100 lives instead of getting them by completing it. Tbh I’m sure in a few more generations Game Freak will just end up selling the shiny charm to whoever has the cash. Anyways thanks for watching and I’m happy you enjoyed the video Jassim!
Very well done review and well edited. I am glad you noted that while you are reviewing and rating based off of a perspective of hindsight, you are also acknowledging the great things that it has done. I dunno if I agree with a B though. Based on the game and nothing else, I can see that being a fair perspective for today's gaming landscape, heck, maybe even a C + or B -, but if you package that in with the legendary status and the push it game to the industry as a whole, I would easily have to say A+. Without this game coming out when it did on the hardware it did, gaming may have lagged behind. It is simply amazing what they were able to accomplish on the N64 cartridge, and how the console was such a success at all despite it's many limitations. I still have a fondness for the console since it was the only one I had until an xbox 360 and ps2 years down the line. Of course, this is all subjective, there is no right or wrong answer, and with so many factors going into every decision and result in a review, it really is impossible to truly hammer a solid objective statement for just aboot anything.
Yeah I can respect that for sure! Given how massive this game was and still continues to be, there’s going to be a million different opinions and even more personalized scores. How you rate it will vastly differ from my own and I think that’s why I love making these kinds of videos. Because I genuinely find it fascinating to see how others react to certain games and the discussion around it all. Anyways thanks for such a well thought out and personalized response and I’m glad that you liked this one Warco!
SM64 straight up has the _best_ controls I've _ever_ felt in a 3D platforms. To me, SM64 is a game attached to an amazing moveset. The actual game itself doesn't stand out to me as much, and it doesn't fully utilize it. You're only ever required to wallkick once, and the game never teaches you about how you can triple jump off of any slope, provided you can slide down them. You're also never taught about how rolling negates fall damage, that the jump kick is a good tool for precise platforming, that you're able to _long jump_ into a wallkick(how cool is that!?), or that the slide kick is ideal for very specific situations. I
While is it far from being my favorite 3D Mario game or from my top 5 favorite Mario games, I have to at least respect 64 for it's revolution to 3D as both platforms & gaming in general. As an game itself, it has age in many areas like the controls, camera and some tedious moments. But other than those, it's still decent. I wish it gotten an proper remake though.
Not gonna lie, I can beat Mario 64 within an hour now with glitches obviously, but I know every stage front and back. The issue is, I think the last Bowser fight is WAAAYYYYYY easier than the flying cap 8 coin stage
Yeah it’s been treating my channel awful ever since a few days after the ORAS review came out. I’m not sure what happened or why, but luckily because of the members I can keep making this kind of stuff and hopefully it picks up steam later

Can't wait for the rest of the 3D Mario games
As always excellent review
As always excellent comment
Also good luck on the difficult sheep
Crazy how many of these obstacle designs have permeated throughout the industry over decades. 9:16 Slime Climb.

The DS version will always hold a special place in my heart

Awesome video man! Really well written👍
Thank you! Hopefully the Sunshine video is even better!

This review is amazing, the algorithm's really done this dirty
7:15 Mario's optimized model shows up and changes back to the normal one
Came over from your sunshine review, if this video is as good as that one then you earned a serious fan.
Nice work branching out
Mario 64 really makes you FEEL like Big Gunk
Wait til you see Sunshine!
I absolutely love this video, man! Your review style works so well in this format.
Seriously appreciate it man! Thanks for the kind words
Ah Mario 64, a gaming classic for the ages
Stan the freaking man! Glad this review dropped today buddy. Great content as usual!

Happy Holidays Stan!

Great review! It’s been years since I 100% this game, but that one sky level was truly horrendous.

Really great and well written review my dude, I love your content
Yooo thanks so much!
Great review as always!
Thank you Mindless! :)
Great review 👏 👌!!!
The camera in this game is NOT bad
I’d love if you could make one of these for paper Mario too 🥰
Great review 👍
You are what the 3-letter website that shall not be named should be, your reviews are excellent.
Haha we do not speak it’s name around these parts!
Glad you enjoyed this one!!!
Big fan of the early access for members!
I love seeing the custom emotes on video content. Honestly really hype.
Thanks so much for watching P-head!
I literally just got an N64 and was thinking about getting this game.
It’s definitely a classic!
One way to fix the camera of the game: the Wii U virtual console and it's save states
Loving the pink hair
Big mario fan this made me quite happy to see
Glad you enjoyed Crimson! Thanks for watching!!!

You haven’t uploaded in a while. Happy holidays! But just wanted to make sure you’re okay!
Did the UA-cam algorithm just not make this video show up to people or something?
Yeah it’s been treating my channel awful ever since a few days after the ORAS review came out. I’m not sure what happened or why, but luckily because of the members I can keep making this kind of stuff and hopefully it picks up steam later
@@RandomTens I really wish the best for your channel. I have lots of respect for longer videos that go against the algorithm.
Excellent review! I don't know why though, but I couldn't get early access to this video :/
We’ll make sure that doesn’t happen again! Sorry Nick!
@@RandomTens No worries Stan, I was only wondering why I couldn't see it earlier :)
Apropos of nothing but his eyes are frickin piercing
[Edit: oh god I just noticed that he looks like elijah wood]
He voiced Spyro.
Hurray no raid shadow legends sponsorship
I'll take first comment thank you very much
Thanks for all the support dude! Hope you enjoyed!!!
Mario is NOT slippery in this game
Shiny Stan with the pink hair

Can't even BLJ away from my responsibilities anymore 0/10 Nintendo pls fix
