Holy shit, I never realized the connection to Majoras Mask, but that makes so much sense with the 3 forms/3 alternate nozzles. They’re also both black sheeps of their franchises that after many years were finally recognized as gems of their era.
Yeah. Even though I'm not an fan of this game, I have to admit that for an GameCube title, it looks beautiful and still is. I think there are better looken GameCube titles over Sunshine. But I have to give props to Sunshine for making this good looken.
Running out of superlatives for your brilliant reviews. Although i never got past the first episodes of Sunshine as the FLUDD dynamic was a bit much for me, I’m glad I could experience the story from this review. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much Jassim! That’s honestly exactly how I felt during my first two hours with the game. I promise it eventually feels much better as you get accustomed to it. Thank you for all the support and I hope to finish off this trilogy strong with Galaxy!
I chose 2020 of all years to get the blue coins in "The Mountain That Shall Not Be Named" Also great review! This was the first Mario game I played, and seeing it in HD on the FLSwitch was great.
I really enjoyed the review. Mario Sunshine wasn't what I wanted from a Mario game at the time, but it's a great game in its own way. I wish the levels had more variety, but I really liked the game's art style and move set.
You really do have some of my favorite reviews! Truly! There's not only a lot of depth to them but certainly passion. These and the Pokemon reviews are just so fantastic (obviously not to mention your other videos). These are always such a treat! As someone who started with Sunshine way back as my first 3D Mario, there's certainly some nostalgia blindness I've got, but this really is one of my favorite games. The world is very well realized and is presented in such an amazing way. I think if I had more of a nostalgic connection with 64, I'd definitely prefer it as I adored it when playing the 3D collection.
Thanks you so much for the kind words! I don’t think nostalgia is as bad as people make it out to be. God knows there’s going to be toms of it in my Galaxy review, given it’s place in my heart. So I think it’s awesome that sunshine left such an important impact on you that you can’t help but let it colour your perspective!
Very good review mate i gotta be honest picking up 3d all-stars I really didn't enjoy 64 as much as I remember as I feel it was extremely dated and good god that camera was way worse than I remember. While I still have alot of respect and love for 64 i feel sunshine I enjoyed way more than I expected and had the opposite experience. Its not perfect by a long shot and not quite as good as galaxy or odyssey but I vastly prefer it to 64 and feel it is very misunderstood by many fans. Its great to see someone appreciate the stuff it does right as well as acknowledge the things it gets wrong. A very good unbiased review.
9:50 There’s one in Paper Mario 64’s rendition of Toad Town but he’s old and chooses to train younger people instead. 16:55 Drunk SomecallmeJohnny would definitely agree with you there. Great review, man. lol
Sunshine is the mario game I have the most issues with. I love the setting, the fact that you can see other levels from far away etc. BUT: The secret levels, even early on, are way to hard. Some missions are really atrocious. There's too much padding The blue coins, 'nuff said. The fact that the game is VERY linear compared to 64 is the biggest issue to me. In 64 if you were stuck on a mission, you'd just go to another level and, as long as you had 70 stars you could go end the game without issues. Sunshine FORCES you to do every missions up to the shadow mario race for each world before letting you go to that dreadful final level. It's the biggest issue for me and the reason it's te Mario game I never replayed after finishing it
I also played Sunshine for the first time ever with the Switch title. 64 aged very poorly to me, whereas Sunshine really grew on me over time. There is some tedium but I quite enjoy the island theming and FLUUD is very fun to use.
Dude I literally never died on any of the squid boss fights they were so easy. The final boss fight against Bowser I went from 23 lives to 9. Almost every death against him felt cheap. I never once died from fire. I only died once from falling into the green acid and that's only because I used the rocket to get back to the platform and it barely overshot the very thin remaining ledge area. Every single death but that one was from not being able to get back to the platform. Many times I just inconveniently fell through the cracks immediately after the ground pound before I could even jump up. However many other times Mario would hang off the side of a ledge and waste so much time just to climb up it which takes like 1 sec that it was impossible to get back to the top. Especially because whenever I would attempt to side jump back up there, the game just ignored it. It has a terrible recognition system so it just didn't register that I was performing a side jump backwards at an angle. I also died from the goo or bills slowing me down before I could even start jumping.
Great review! I never played Sunshine until getting on Switch after seeing my kids play it on their switch and it reminded me a little of Splatoon. After several hours I can say this may actually be my favorite Mario game ever. Absolutely love it and glad to you and others also agree
Great review man!! I like your presentation and you lay out Sunshine's positives very well. You got some pretty valid critiques too. I absolutely love the setting and love challenging games, so it's my personal favorite Mario. It's strengths are so strong despite its frustrations and everyone deserves to experience Isle Delfino.
Mario sunshine is weirded bc, I has a feeling I have never had before, I feel like I’m at a Mediterranean Island, I feel the heat on my face and just the whole holiday/vacation vibe from it, it’s something many games can’t do, the immersion for a GameCube Mario game is unreal
As someone who grew up with Super Mario Sunshine, I find it really interesting hearing the opinion from a first time player. By the way Stan, may I ask when was the last time you washed that Gamecube and Controller at 4:08?
I’ve never washed them and they’ve been in storage for forever! But they actually look grosser than they are. They both used to have Zelda stickers on them and after I peeled them off it kept a residue and then dust (and sweat on the controller) built up lol
Speaking of the wave bird, mine is on the fritz. It works perfectly for a couple minutes then the light on the port part flickers and spams every input or makes my character studder in place. It’s very frustrating and I don’t know what to do.
Now that I finished, we definitely had a lot of the same thoughts! Honestly left a really positive mark on me when I played. Super fun and under appreciated game with some junk in blue coins and the river mission. IMO, i feel like the difficulty of the game is a little exaggerated in some of the missions, but I can get why. Great review as usual Also, I caught and appreciated the Victorious reference
I grew up playing games like Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. Nice Chonicles of Narnia collection, btw. "'Till We Have Faces' is another good one by C.S. Lewis, the retelling of the myth of Cupid and Psyche.
Out of all the 3D Mario games I've played, this is honestly my least favorite one. While it's far from being bad & the game does have many good moments that stands out like Fludd, the new environments and few others, I felt alot of things of Sunshine felt underwhelming, obnoxious and rushed. If there's one 3D Mario game that seriously needs an remake to improved on ( besides 64 ), it would definitely be Sunshine. It does have good potential and I appreciated for trying something new. But it has alot of messy things that can be fixed on if it ever gets remade.
I honestly think Sunshine is the worst 3D Mario game... Which is basically praising the 3D Super Mario. When your worst game is still good you know the franchise is amazing and wil only dissapoint for excess of expectations. Why I consider it the worst? Simplily because every shine is either obligatory to beat the game or a waste of time, which is not good on a collectaton, as well as being the most frustrating Mario for even speedrunners.
Honestly Super Mario Sunshine is freaking awesome besides for a few issues.... whatever.... Every games has its issues and tbh the people that hate on the game are too stupid to understand the true brilliance of the game. Everything is beautifully tied around the water mechanic so perfectly. Another thing I absolutely loved about this game it was the first Mario game that really made me think it should have had a multiplayer mode the levels were perfect. Another thing that's awesome about this game is everytime you go in for a new shine the level changes a little bit. For all the hate that this game gets from all the idiots Nintendo actually did some things that they were way ahead of the curve. Ideas that wouldn't be implemented until much later on with other games. Yes there are a few cheap-ass levels, yes getting the blue coins sucks but it's an amazing game with some really fun gameplay mechanics that ties into the whole theme. From your movement to your ammo it ties into it perfectly. Well except the last area being a volcano I don't know why they did that. But man every game has flaws I'm playing Elden Ring and even though it's an absolutely fucking amazing game ER still has flaws. SMS is amazing!!! Don't listen to the haters!!! There is a lot to love about this game. Play it!!! I could honestly go on but this is your review bro I'm just telling you why this game deserves a hell of a lot more respect. Okay I totally forgot something I absolutely hated about this game love that Yoshi's in it hate that he dies from touching water that was not a good idea on Nintendo's part.
I do enjoy reading quite a bit, however sadly most of what's on the bookshelf belongs to my fiancée who really enjoys both classics and modern day fantasy stuff. My personal favorite book is Fifth Business by Robertson Davies though!
Royboy, if you see this my mom would like you to comment below to acknowledge that you’ve watched this video please. Also is that a new sweater?
i watched it :D !!!!!!!!!!!!
watching now
cannot guarantee i will finish (i wont)
Sunshine is my favorite game in the series. I love the movement and worlds so much
Agree I love all the Mario games everything is awesome in this game
Holy shit, I never realized the connection to Majoras Mask, but that makes so much sense with the 3 forms/3 alternate nozzles. They’re also both black sheeps of their franchises that after many years were finally recognized as gems of their era.
"Mama Peach" makes me ill. I didn't expect to learn so much! Great vid
Haha thanks man!
"that's mama Luigi to you, Mario"
"Am I chuckster?"
Very valid question, and an engaging philosophical debate.
Honestly the game still looks beautiful today. How super, brown blooper dooper!
Yeah. Even though I'm not an fan of this game, I have to admit that for an GameCube title, it looks beautiful and still is. I think there are better looken GameCube titles over Sunshine. But I have to give props to Sunshine for making this good looken.
It really is!

I’m with you on that Retro! Thank you as always for watching
I got 3D Allstars for Christmas. I'm currently playing through Sunshine for my very first time. I absolutely love it😁❤️.
Glad you’re enjoying it! It’s a really great time for sure

"You're telling me there's not a single toad in the mushroom kingdom who does CrossFit or has a black belt." 💀
I'm a bit late to the party, but this is a fantastic video as usual. I'm glad to see these Mario reviews and looking forward to more!
I'll save your time and explain it in 1 sentence.
It is the perfect rage game
the legend is back 😃😃
Great video as always!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for all the support!!!

I normally don’t like farming 1ups. But this game is an exception. Some of it is just unfair.

Sounds like we had a very similar time with both games!
Funny. I'm replaying both in 3D Allstars and think they're both still very engaging and love their challenge. Glad you like it though!
Greate video Stan! Also can’t wait for the next stream
This might be my least favorite 3D Mario game, but I still have a lot of appreciation for it
Same here.

Nice to hear a review from ya!
Thanks Navy!
25:27 - "Shine brighter than Tori Vega" Oh Stan, you're too cute lol
AJ, you're a gamergirl?
Great review as always, Stan! I never played this but I will definitely consider this
It’s fun! Congrats on the crown on Gall Guys King!!!
Great review! I never played Sunshine until getting on Switch after seeing my kids play it on their switch and it reminded me a little of Splatoon. After several hours I can say this may actually be my favorite Mario game ever. Absolutely love it and glad to you and others also agree
When a virus is so bad, you can't even say the name of a final dungeon without UA-cam going crazy.
Sounds like more of a UA-cam censorship problem
"bear guy". He's...he's a racoon

One of my issues is that the whole cleaning paint thing is dropped after a certain point which blows.
This review was super good!

I'm glad you have enjoyed sunshine its one of my favorite
It’s much better than the internet had me believing!
Do the RAREST smartphone games!
Maybe...
Great review. Very well written.

So I noticed your live streams are getting copy right strikes. Why is that?
Universal Music Group and Sony Music mostly. Hope all is well during the pandemic for you and your family Lordcole!
@@RandomTens yep everything is going ok so far anyhow

Agreed. I’m happy it influenced Odyssey. Odyssey is a much better game compared to Sunshine.
I love this review lol!
I wish nintendo would do a remaster like 64 ds. but with graphics like odyssey. like peache's castle in mario odyssey
Yes, its definitely time for that. Remaking games twice has become normalized at this point so lets go!!
Galaxy and Sunshine are my favorites!
It might've been a longer than usual holiday break, but it's one of your shorter channel breaks. 😅
That’s fair, but I’ve been pretty good about getting a video out every month since July I think. But yeah the two year break was long af lol
@@RandomTens yeah it's good that you're not being gone for that long anymore.
Nice video
I really like both games but to this day i still play 64 but i kinda got bored of sunshine
I wish one of the voice actors for this game actually said "Corona"
Give smg4 and others opportunities to use those lol
What you referred to as a "pinball machine" is actually a pachinko machine. Pachinko and pinball are different games.
I think this game is awesome and rocks beyond compare
Can wait till you review galaxy , galaxy 2 and Pokemon sun and moon
AHHHH MY FAVORITE GAME

I really wish FLUDD came back
Awesome graphics awesome game
👌👌👌
it is just creepy 2 sea some1 as old as the person in this vid is 2 stil b plying gmaes 4 kids
Sunshine is way better than 64.
I honestly thought this game was highly loved. As the years flew by I realised this was the most forgettable Mario game of all time.
my guy, spoiler alert. ruined the story for me :'(
Its sucks
Horrible game , litterally the worst marrio ever , i love everything abiut this game except the gameplay
