Besides talented Linda was very shrewd. Capable of cross over into many markets. This one was 1st recorded by Dionne Warwicks' sister Dee Dee in 63,

Sweet! "You're No Good" was a number one hit for Linda Ronstadt in 1975, so it got a lot of radio play throughout that year along with her cover of The Everly Brothers, "When Will I Be Loved". Ronstadt has said in interviews that she was inspired by the version recorded by The Swinging Blue Jeans in 1964, but her version sounds more like the Dee Dee Warwick version from 1963. The two backing vocalists in the clip are Sherlie Matthews on the left and Clydie King on the right closest to Ronstadt. Both ladies enjoyed legendary careers appearing on hundreds of recordings. For one example, along with Merry Clayton, they both also sang the background vocals on Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama".

***LADY LINDA TRIVIA TIME!!*** ...It's SO goooooooooooooood.....(1:47)....
    - ....although Empress knows Linda to a CERTAIN extent, she doesn't know HOW important 'Lady Linda' IS! ....Linda was starting her SUPERSTAR peak at this time, when she hit #1 with this tune (Feb. 1975), but she created LANES no Woman in Rock has ever done before.....
    - ....here's SOME of her accomplishments.....
    1. The Woman who discovered THE EAGLES (they were her 1st Touring Band)...
    2. The 1st (Rock) Woman on the cover of TIME Magazine...
    3. became the QUEEN of Soft Rock / Folk Rock / California Rock...ALL of them.....
    4. became the first Woman with the most ROLLING STONE covers....
    5. became the first Woman to sell out ARENAS....b-e-f-o-r-e- Madonna.....
    6. became the first Woman in Rock to get a Tony nod for Broadway work....
    7. single-handedly brought back Traditional Pop, covering the standards.....
    8. first Woman to 'debut' in the Top 5 on the Pop Album charts (w/ 1980's "Mad Love")...
    9. became part of the first 'Supergroup' ("Trio" w/ Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris)..
    10. the Woman to get Grammys in Pop, Rock, Latin, Traditional, C&W & CHILD-RENS...
    11. the first Woman to have TWO Songs in the Top 5 on the Pop charts...
    12. The FIRST WOMAN to have 12 Platinum Records...in a ROW....
......and, that was just......SOME.......Lady Linda is the REAL 'Boss' (3:05) .......P.S., Linda recorded this tune AFTER she performed it on this Show (& in her live shows)......

Okay so my mom was a huge Linda fan & had this album on cassette tape so I heard it *at least* 100s of times growing up. But I honestly think this performance on The Midnight Special is better than the studio version.

Linda always nailed it live and as fabulous as the studio recordings are, I usually prefer the live versions.
Here's my favourite version of this song ua-cam.com/video/_bj_32QeAaU/v-deo.htmlsi=fXw4zeGFWqf1f95G

🔥🔥🔥🔥 definitely! Linda is a top tier singer the best of the best. I remember how much you dug her cover of I knew you When. One of my favorite songs by her. Her and Dusty Springfield are noted for doing covers as good or better than the original. Have you reacted to Dusty? One of the greatest singers ever thankfully got into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame shortly after her passing.

Classic Song‼️ This is one of Linda’s signature song. This performance is🔥🔥. 🤣 That background singer on the left meant what she was singing, “she wasn’t playing no games.” They sound great‼️

Midnight Special... Was this the Stone Poneys? Or was she a solo act by then?

    • @ChrisDeWine
      @ChrisDeWine 6 днів тому

The Stone Ponys broke up in 1968. This is the song Linda used to close out her shows on her 4th solo album tour "Don't Cry Now". Linda added it to finish off her 5th solo album in 1974 "Heart Like a Wheel". It was released to radio in November 1974 by February the next year it was in the top 5 of both the R&B chart and the pop/rock chart. It was her first of many smash hits.
