Over a year ago I replaced my is300 timing belt without experience or a formal training in mechanics. Just watched a bunch of videos on UA-cam particularly your channel and you helped me a lot when I had hiccups or troubles during the process when I reached out to you ... thank you again😊. I had replaced 3 timing belts since then. 1. Is300, 2.es300, 3. Honda Pilot... replacing timing belt has become my favorite 😂!

So I just did this job and one thing I missed was the timing gear retention tab, I didn't realize it bolts on and off. Broke a tooth right off the reluctor wheel when pulling the crank gear and thought the engine was toast when it fired up! Huge note no one ever mentions it. Not even in Papadakisracing's super popular 2JZ teardown!
Talking about maintenance. What gear oil would you recommend for a lsd diff? In Europe authorized service recommended Castrol Syntrax that is up to api-gl 5 standards. They don’t use different gear fluids for open diffs and lsd since the lsd is a helical diff and supposedly doesn’t need any additives. What’s your opinion on that? What would you recommend?
Can you post some of the links or companies you used to source the parts?
with the is300 being like 16 years old and with like 150k miles you know of any other maintenance that the car would need? Obviously like timing belt, water pump, cam seals, tencheners, spark plugs, and regular oil changes, but anything you know of that could go bad soon after I buy one. Ik sorry it’s a long question but you seem to be very knowledgeable about this car. :)
