- In this video I'll discuss my Top 10 Montreal Canadiens prospect pool rankings with stats and game highlights. #nhl #montrealcanadiens
Players Discussed: Owen Beck | Ivan Demidov | Sean Farrell | Jacob Fowler | Michael Hage | Lane Hutson | Logan Mailloux | Filip Mesar | Joshua Roy | David Reinbacher
Did I miss anyone in the Montreal Canadiens Prospect Pool? They are stacked with young talent!
All these players are under 25 years old
Suzuki(only till august) Slaf Caufield Dach Newhook Demidov Hage beck Mesar Guhle Mailloux Hutson Harris Barron Reinbacher Farrell Roy tuch Xhekaj Kappen struble
Die hard habs fan here! I’d say Adam Engstrom and Oliver Kapanen are definitely ahead of Mesar and certainly ahead of Sean Farrell
As of now I wouldn't rate Farrell & Mesar over Heineman, Kapanen & Engström, I'd also rate Florian Xhekaj real close to Michael Hage (cause the O simply is the very best CHL league, only slightly edged by the Q on goaltending and... oh look honorable mention to Quentin Miller)
@@NintendoMaster363 Yeah it could have gone either way near the end. Personal preference...I'm a big Mesar fan so I put him there.
@@lauig And yes to Florian...he's a beast!
Demidov and Hutson, will be the ankle breaker duo, Kapanen and Xhekaj will surprise a lot too.
Gonna be scary for other teams!
I like the look of these young Habs, this could be a team to look out for in 3-4 years
I think Oliver Kapanen from Finland could be a surprise. He is a 20 years old 6 foot 1 center. I saw some videos of him and clearly bye Dvorak and Evans with this kid.
To be is going to be a dark house I have a good feeling about him he should have been on the list not Sean go habs
@@ShaneLavigne-ke2rh Absolutely, but I really like what I see to be honest :)
@@brunopaquette5920 me to this is the first time that they are building something good in a long time go HABS
Yes...he definitely could be in top 10...nice prospect pool in Habs nation!
He's what scouts call a gamer, he finds a way to get on the scoreboard
Had to put shades on the screen got so bright with every name added.
Oliver Kapanen definitely close to top 10 aswell he was awesome in the worlds this year
True! Nice problem to have.
I think Kapanen and Engstrom before Mesar and Farrell?
10000%
great list, i still can't believe Chicago didn't pick Demidov... Can't wait to see him on the powerplay with Hutson, Suzuki, Caufield, Slaf and so on. Maybe Engstrom over Farrell and Mesar... ?
neither can i, or 75% of the chicago fan base
It’s so incredible our potential future PP2 could even be stacked! With the likes of Dach, Roy, Mailloux all being pushed to pp2 it has never been a better time to cheer for the CH 🍻🔥🔥
I get why Chicago passed on him, they need a future #1 RD and the next draft doesn't have that type of guy. I get why Columbus passed on him too they were weighing a bigger and less talented (but still very talented)centre against a more talented average sized winger and they picked the big centre. Anaheim is the baffling one. They took a winger who's a bit bigger yes but could've been gotten by trading down and likely isn't a better player.
@@adamn7777 I think that's a fair analysis. Chicago fans are coming around, I think we just got excited by the idea of another game breaking young forward to grow and play with Bedard. The pipeline has quite a few middle 6 forwards. Hopefully next draft that can a future first liner.
That's a good point about Anaheim being able to trade down, but maybe they heard others were keen on Sennecke too. I like his game actually, and his size. I think he might turn out to be quite the pick.
This is my top 10 prospect honestly ;
1. Demidov
2. Hutson
3. Reinbacher
4. Hage
5. Roy
6. Fowler
7. Beck
8. Mailloux
9. Kapanen
10. Engstrom
Ceiling wise I think Hage is the one with the most potential if he gets better physically. I don't see farrell as high as I use to before he still needs a lot of time. Kapanen is the one im most intrigued about and he's the one showing the most upsides from recent news. Owen Beck is really someone not to sleep on. Mesar is probably tied with Engstrom but giving the assets we have, I don't see him on the lineup unless he steps up even more this season.
Honorable Mention to Konyushkov too... this guy is phenomenal
I like your top 10. The mention on Konyushkov as well. They are my top 11 as well. I would put Fowler 4 or 5. Before Roy even though I love Roy.
Perfect top 11. @@user-wr6eu4jo2w
I have Fowler slightly higher, but have the exact same 10 names on my Top-10 list.
This list makes more sense. Kapanen and Engstrom are undervalued, and Ferrell is overvalued
im of the opinion that demidov was the best player in the draft, i watched the top 5 on a stream and i actually couldnt believe he dropped... the stars aligned and thank god teams were desperate for defenseman... it was as happy as i have been about hockey for a long time... team of the future baby
Only chicago picked a dman?
@@matthewminogue3276 chicago didnt have another pick in top defe3nsemen range
I personally would have Fowler up at number 3. He looks amazing
Kid is great! Nice problem to have when you can't decide where your Top 10 should be placed...deep prospect pool!
What about Yevgeni Volokhin? He's 19, 6'3 and .938 in the MHL. I never hear much about him though.
Not Sure why everyone is ignoring Florian Xhekaj. (34G-65pts. 3rd Brantford scoring 3G in 6 playoff games) he had better #s than Mesar, (19G-52pts, 6th, Kitchener scoring, 1G in 10 playoff games). on a worse team. he was their best player by a wide margin in the Playoffs. Xhekaj also bring a physical element to his game, something Mesar does not. And yet... Oh, and imo, Xhekaj is also pretty solid as a center. So why should Mesar be considered the better player? Heck. Kapanen should be ahead of Mesar.. And Ferrell.. 🙄😎I honestly can't see Mesar being a very impactful player on a Habs team considering the competition he has to deal with just to earn a spot. Wish him the best though.
Read the stat lines on Yevgeni Volokhin. Just as good as Fowler with no media hype.
That’s what I’m saying! Some MTL journalist was hyping him up to be our next Price (I was like woah chill for a sec lol) but the stats could mean something. I’ve yet to see tape from him tho
I just can't see Farrell ever making the NHL. Unless his skill is elite, he just doesn't bring enough to balance out his size. I would put Florian Xhekaj in that 10th spot because I feel like he has a better chance to play a role on an NHL team.
I understand he isn’t in the top ten but I think little Xhekaj could be something special. A top ‘get you through the playoffs’ type.
I'd probably put Engstrom and/or Kapanen above Mesar and certainly above Farrell.
Your rankings are completely off from a Habs fan logan mailoux best d prospect we have
9 and 10 will not be nhlers. the rest is great and you missed Adam Enstrom. He ia a head of 9 and 10
I think Kapanen or Xhekaj (Florian) should be ranked above at number 10. At this point, I just don't see the consistency by Sean Farrell to graduate full-time in the NHL making him expendable.
Demidov- Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Caufield - Dach - Hage
Newhook - Beck - Roy
Tuck - Kapanen - Xhekaj
Ghule - Reinbacher
Hutson - Matheson
Xhekaj - Mailloux
Engstrom - Struble - Kostenko
Fowler - Primeau - Volokhin
Here is my selection which is not much different than yours:
Caufield - Suzuki - Slavkovsky
Newhook - Dach - Demidov
F. Xhekaj - Hayes - Roy
Tuch - Beck/Kapanen - Mesar/Heineman
Matheson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Mailloux
Hutson - Konyushkov/Kostenko
Engstrom/Xhekaj
Fowler - Volokhin
@@georgec3944 I don't think Mesar and Beck are 4th line players. I think Hage has more upside than Newhook and Mesar but we will see in time. Mesar and Beck would proably be traded instead of having them play on a 4th line.
@jonpro15 I heard that Beck has bulked up in weight and strength so I have no problem seeing him as a 4th line center. I see him as definitely making the team right off the bat. Mesar, on the other hand, is a big question mark. We do need a proven right winger and that's where I think Huges should concentrate on getting a free agent.
Dobes over Primeau
@@mcwaller123 maybe? I don’t think Dobes can play at the NHL level just yet.
Love the channel and love seeing you on the Podcast with Grant and Shane thanks for all the videos.
I would swap in Engstrom & Florian over Mesar & Farrell but still .. nice list.
#goHabsGo
Adam Engstrom is such a sleeper. This kid does some high IQ plays I wanna see in the NHL.
Agreed....I like Florian and Engstrom...the list can go on for sure!
Good job mon ami ! Hugues s sitting on a asset gold mine 👌
Mailloux will be more effective than Hutson and the most underrated. College and AHL is 2 different world...
A rookie who finished 3rd defenseman on pts and 4th on goal in AHL. Rookie all-star team...
A future Brent Burns but better.
Reinbacher was not impressive in the 6th-10th best hockey league in the world. No way he will be better than Mailloux.
Demidov and Hutson on the powerplay is gonna hit like crack.
I'd swap Mešar and Farrell for Kapanen and Engström 💯
When you do the Ottawa Senators PROSPECT POOL it will be the shortest video ever on UA-cam. Cheers from Ottawa🍁
LOL!!!
I agree with almost all his picks but Owen beck is before Michael hage for now.
I’d go Kapanen over Farrell
If this team doesnt win a cup by 2030 i will be shocked
Beck should be a lot higher…..
Demidov might be the best draft pick by the Habs in my life time, im gonna be 50 next month!! We were SOO close to getting Eiserman at 21, imagine Eiserman and Caufield on the powerplay! Would have been sweet, hopefully Hage will work out, i haven't seen much of him. I wouldnt add reinbacher to that list, i think they should trade him while they can still get something for him. Habs r stocked on D, they're fine without reinbacher's goal a year pace, (in a much easier league). So many habs fans seem to love the guy, i just dont see it, and i have watched him play, A LOT. Just my opinion, i guess.
Habs are gonna be fun to watch for many years!
If this includes you remembering they drafted Carey Price, those are some pretty lofty expectations!! Also, not sure what it is you are not seeing with Reinbacher. Kid is a pure stud.
@@lvern60 To have an opinion like that, I would guess quite literally everything since he clearly hasn't watched him play. Probably just looked him up on hockeydb and went like "Not enough points I don't like him"
Reinbacher is like the perfect fit to play with Hutson or with Ghule to shutdown a game + they dont have much depth on the Right... with Mailloux and maybe Konyushkov. Thats it.
Great video. Like many Habs fans I’m still pinching myself about the Demidov and Hage selections. Demidov was easily a top 3 pick and Hage is a top 10 talent. I’m very high on Reinbacher too. Wait until he’s on the ice with NHL level players and everyone will see what he is capable of.
for goaly yes Fowler but i don't remember is name but a big Russian dominant goaly comes soon with Montreal.
I'm 35 years old and I've never been that excited for the future of the team, period.
Future looks great and the fact Slaf, CC and Suzuki all took team friendly contracts is really going to help out this process even more, they'll be back in the playoff picture very soon.
Great prospect pipeline in Montreal!
It's pronounced JOSHWAWAH!!
This team will be a major problem for the league in a couple years
Yes they will be!
Mesar et Farrell sont pas de calibre NHL
Great list: Engstrom, Kapanen ahead of Mesar and Farrell. Mm Maybe Konyushkov as well
Things are going to get tight in the roster. So many good players will be fighting to earn a place in the lineup and they will all need to up their game, which is a good thing. It is difficult to imagine where to put all these good players and at some point there will be no more chairs available. This means that some of them will be used as assets to be traded for specific needs. I think some players will successfully reach next level and will suprise us. I have a feeling that Beck will make the team. I think that he wotked a lot on being a well rounded player instead of focusing only on scoring. But used alongside talented creative players, his scoring and playmaking talents will be surprising. Another player who I think hasn't said his last word, is Filip Mesar. I honestly think that the pace at which he plays was too quick for his teammates in the juniors and that caused timing issues. But I remember seeing him during the first Habs camp 2 years ago and he was a dynamo on the ice, always in the center of the action. I really wish that he finds his place in the lineup, he is speedy and unpredictable with the puck, I think he only needs to be with players who can keep pace. Mailloux will become the best Habs defenceman. He is big, he is fast, he is gritty and has a Webber slapshot. He is more dangerous than Reinbacker and he is bulkyer than Hudson. I think that him and Guhle will be an amazing duo. Michael Hage will be as good if not better than Suzuki and will have an A on his jersey some day. I wish that Reinbacker ads grit to his game, to me he is too much of a nice guy. When he grows hair on his chest and decides to play like a man, he will enter another dimension, one of being BAD NEWS for anyone entering the Habs zone. Joshua Roy has a great brain and the hability to adapt to any situation/any player style. Scoring in the NHL is often founded on taking advantage of every opportunity. The goals dont need to be flashy, you just need to put the puck in the net any way possible. Roy has this talent. He never scores twice the same way, he just manages what is in front of him so well, and sometimes the simplest things, but done a the right moment is all what is needed to score. I could go on and on, but exciting times are ahead of us. I think that the power play will get a big boost in the coming years. This has obvious advantages, but one that gets overseen is the fact that if opposing teams are scared of your powerplay, they will be less likely to do abusive gestures and injure the habs players, because a penalty could equate to loosing the game. This will mean that there will be less injuries on the team and we need tbis big time.
Engstrom way over Farrell imo.
1-Demidov- 2-Reinbacher - 3-Hutson - 4-Mailloux - 5-Hage - 6-Roy - 7-Fowler - 8-Beck - 9-Engstrom - 10-Konyushkov
Thorpe and Tuch don't get enough attention. Saw them both in the rookie tournament against Toronto. Thorpe is huge at six five, skates like the wind and can finish. Tuch is also huge, fast and likes to hit and will surprise you with some offense. I see both these guys on the 4th line for the habs when they clear out the aging bad contracts
1- Demidov
2- hutson
3- Reinbacher
4- Mailloux
5- Fowler
6- Hages
7- Roy
8- Beck
9- Engstrom
10- Kapanen
Very lucky for Montreal Demidov fell to them. He could ultimately end up the best of them all from this draft. But what could have been? They could have had both Michkov and Demidov.
No. teams need balance. Reinbacher - Demidov is better than Mitchkov - Demidov when building a balanced roster. And if you read deepy, Habs had deeeep intel on Michkov last year and could have EASILY chosen him, and didn't for many reasons we will never know. And Gorton-Hughes-Bobrov-Bobrov Sr who watched every move of both these players, know a million times more than even the most informed of us fans. Passing on Mitchkov was a very, very smart move. By the way, he's a ME person, not a WE person. As made VERY CLEar by his refusal to meet certain teams, his demeanor at the draft, and so much more. We are building a TEAM of Character "Team Comes First" players, Mitchkov is a Primma Donna "me first" character, and those do NOT fit well in good team dressing rooms, nor sit well with coaches. As agreed by 5-6 teams before desperate Philli, amongst other examples. Fans who don't know better should get off their blind sighted Matvei Bandwagon.
No Adam Engstrom in top 10? He looks like a guy with huge potential.
Had him on the list last year and he definitely could be in top 10....just so many good prospects! Nice problem to have.
@@nhldraftpros Yeah. I agree with you. Habs have a good depth. They have missed game-breaking talent in the pool, but with Ivan Demidov and Lane Hutson, that's 2 game breaking talent right there. Great top 10 and great work aswell like every time!!
Hawks tried to get Demitov at 4 with there 25 no1 pick. They fucked up . Levshunov has alot of low lights . A project.
Oliver Kapanen and Adam Engström should be way above mesar and farrell at least
Definitely could be...nice problem to have for Habs prospect pool!
You missed Engstrom, but not many know about him. He will be such a surprise when he's exposed to the Montreal market, as in, he will be there to steal a spot and when he doesn't, he will be dominant in the AHL this year.
Don't forget Florian Xhekaj!
Yup could be on list too!
Will there be politics in the locker room between the US and Russia during the training camp?
What about Konyushkov? Reports on him are pretty good, he might cross the ocean with Ivan .
Just by curiosity, where would you have Slafkovsky let's say he was still a prospect?
After Demidov, Mailloux is the #2....The most underrated player. Brent Burns 2.0 but better,,, He will be more effective all around than Hutson. Reinbacher was not a top defenseman in the 6th-10th best hockey league in the world....
Reinbacher will easily be the best dmen on the habs the guy has elite skills
I've been hoping for Bill Guerin to go after either Martin Necas or Nicholas Robertson
This team ginna be so good in the future
no Adam Engstrom no Oliver Kapanen... WTF
I know...I know...too many young players in the pipeline. Nice problem to have!
Sean Farrell doesn’t belong on this list. He doesn’t show any promise of being a full time NHL player.
Both Farrell and Mesar are long shots. Engstrom and Kapanen should be ahead of these guys
@@mikepouliot3630 I wouldn't call Mesar a long shot yet. The results in the OHL weren't impressive, but he has a skillset that could translate to the NHL. Whereas Farrell had the impressive numbers before turning pro, but doesn't have the skillset to make the jump to the NHL. Smart player, but the skating just isn't good enough for a player his size to make it.
@@Stormie33 you might be right about Mesar. I've chosen to lower my expectations. I would love to be proven wrong.
Engstrom might end up being the best young defender and should be ahead of Mesar and Farrell.
Fowler 6’2? Was drafted 6ft, knock on him was his size and fitness.
Good list but where is engstrom? I'd have him in the 6..7..8 range
MHV league vs NCAA ?
Yakupov ?
Galchenyuk
Grigorenko….
My list was the same except I had Engstrom instead of Farrell.
I want to see Matheson play as forward.
So no need to trade a D.. and we keep a vereran.
hage id have at number 4. hes got second line center upside which id have ahead of a roy and logan. hes so under rated
oh and also kapanen is easily ahead of mesar and farrel. id even have Bogdan Konyushkov in there! bogdan waaay better number than saleyev who went top 10 in this draft. hes very under rated
I liked your video although I believe Hage is top 5
You are correct....he definitely could be. Gave the other players a higher ranking since they are older.
Habs need a top line center forDemidov.
Before watching the video
My Ranking
Y.Demidov
L.Hutson
D.Reinbacher
L.Mailloux
J.Fowler
J.Roy
M.Hage
O.Beck
A.Engstrom
B.Konyushkov
O.Kapanen
F. Xhekaj
L. Tuch
F.Mesar
You can add more like
Dobes
Farrell
Heinemen
Trudeau
Quintin Miller
Volokin
Adam Engström and Bogdan Konyushkov should be there instead of Farrell and Mesar both were disappointing for me. I think Emil Heineman injuries last year slow him down, but I think He has more potential than Farrell and Mesar, he would even be ahead of those two for me. Your list is pretty spot on. Add Kapanen ahead also of those two. Almost forgot about him.
Not to mention their rosters players , slaffy, Suziki, caufield, newhook, dach, wifi, Harris, sturble, barron, hutson
Don't forget that MHL is not KHL or Finland Ligua... So I craving to see how Demidov will be able to play in a north american league like AHL on smaller ring. I'm not say that he will not do it but let see !
Hage #4, Mesar and Farrell too high
I hope Aatos Koivu play in the NHL, but after Gallagher contract, so he can have the #11 of his dad haha.
I have Kapanen ahead of Mesar. Sean Farrell is good but Engstrom should be ahead of him at number 10.
Jacob Fowler should be #3,
It's a fun video to watch because you get to argue about it. It's fun. The Habs are looking good. Getting younger and faster.
Mesar was just ok in the OHL for a 19yo
And farrell dont deserve this spot by far
Exciting time to be a Habs fan as there is at least another 4 to 5 guys that could be argued for the 8-10 spots
Nice list but Engstrom and Kapanen should be ahead of Farrell and Mesar
Hutson already has 2 points in the NHL & Farrell has 1 point
hage should b third or fourth
It was M.Hage's father who pass away in the swimming pool
Fowler should be #4 there
Hey Marc, whats your favourite nhl team?
HABS NATIONS 🔵⚪️🔴
BOOM!!!
Kapanen and Engstrom over Farrell and Mesar for sure.
Reinbacher was drafted to be Hutson’s partner
I think Ferrell's entry in this list has been passed by other guys... not sure if we will see him take that next step...
Yeah, don't think I'd have Farrell even top 15 at this point. In addition to the other 9 in the vid, I think Engstrom, Kapanen, and Konyushkov are all ahead of him now, and I would even put Volokhin and Eriksson above him. Then there's a few other guys after that who are around his range.
Habs are Stacked
When Celine Dion went up to the podium, I was saying out loud, "Pick Ivan! Pick Ivan Celine! Do it!! Do it!!" HAHA!! And she was so slow talking. The tension was killing me! And when she said "Ivan...." I actually yellowed out a who hooo! Man, I can't believe he dropped to 5th. He might be the next Galchenyuk or Yakupov but he might also be a super star and we haven't had a dynamic player like him in a long time. I'm loving what this team is building. I'm happy to see Mesar's and Farrell's name up there but I'm starting to lose faith in these guys. I hope they can become NHL players but I don't know if there's room for them on the Habs top 6. Suzuki, Slafkovsky, Caufield, Dach, Demidov, and Newhook. There's your top 6 right there. You didn't name Emil Heineman and I can see why but I still think the guy is more valuable then Mesar and Farrell. He's got a bullet of a shot, he's 6 foot tall, 200 lbs, plays a physical game and was on the PP last season with Laval. With the departure of Ylonen, I expect Heineman to be given his ice time in Montreal next season and I have a lot of faith in him making an impact with the team. I might be wrong about this guy but something tells me that if he starts the season healthy, people are going to like him. I'm making a prediction now, The Habs will fight for a playoff spot this season unless Dach misses the whole season again. There's no way they pick 5th again next season. And that's ok. They will get a top 15 pick next season if they don't make the playoffs and will have Demidov the following season. The Future looks bright.
He won't be a Yakupov or Galchy, his hockey sens is elite ! And that's what both Yakupov and Galchy were lacking
@@maxpatenaude2115 That's my hope too. I'm in no way comparing their plays style. I just meant to say you can't predict how good a player is solely on where they are drafted and hope this guy is a home run regardless.
Через 2-3 года Монреаль будет в числе претендентов на КС!
Lane Hutson was never a Hobey Baker finalist! Not saying this to be the "Mmm actually" guy, but because of how insulted I've felt for 2 years in a row by his omission. Matthew bloody Knies was nommed with less points than d-man Lane
Hutson was a final 10 finalist....but yes he wasn't a top 3 finalist. Sorry for confusion.
@@nhldraftpros Ahhhh, gotchu! :)
Very good list but Oliver Kapanen should replace Farrell
Definitely could have!
Oliver Kapanen looks good
Yup! Deep prospect pool in Montreal!
Nice video!
Thanks for watching!
best future in the league
Great list. Great time to be a Habs fan. I think Kapanen could surprise and make the team this year.
No Kappanen?
Could have been there as well! Nice pipeline in Montreal!
Sharks next 👀?
Possibly!
