- The 1980 UK final with Superstar legend Brian Jacks vs decathlete Daley Thompson, also includes boxer Alan Minter and football legend Geoff Hurst.
Events : Canoeing and Cycling.
I started doing judo when I was 8 because of Brian Jacks and watching him on superstars.
I remember watching this with my dad brian jacks was an absolute monster on the dips.
Why can't they bring this back these guys were role models for me and got me into sport and down the sports centre ...The kids need this type of thing today !!

Remember Kevin Keegan coming off a bike his shoulder like a cheese grater still got back on bike and competed don't make sportsman of this calibre anymore 👍🏻

Great trip down memory lane here, Superstars was a staple back then! (Altho this is 1979 not 1980, I just checked in Alan Minters autobiography!👍)
Wow this is great, I've never seen it before, it's a shame the amateurs don't get to keep the money they win though.
I loved this show! But it really wasn’t fair to make Thompson ride on his own!
Not fair that Daley Thompson had to ride on his own. He had no-one to race against! Grrrrrr
lightning1975 Ha! Good observation. Also note the church going type lady giving all the athletes a good ol' push on their bikes. Probably makes a lovely cuppa and a ham sandwich.
As a teenage girl with an overdose of hormones, this programme certainly fuelled my imagination!
quizman1967 Surely you jest, Pickering and Vine were bloody awful, though to their credit they no doubt helped inspire Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge character.
