I started doing judo when I was 8 because of Brian Jacks and watching him on superstars.

Thanks for uploading this. I loved this programme when I was a kid and Daley Thompson was my idol.

Fantastic! So sad that we've now lost David Vine as well as Ron Pickering. The Heaven Olympics now has one supreme commentary box!

Geoff Dillon Yeah none of this relentless "coming up next" and montages of things before they show it proper.

Back when the BBC knew what sport meant.
Not the showbiz nonsense they stuff down out throats,
'presenters' who are up their own arses . . . need I go on?

Great trip down memory lane here, Superstars was a staple back then! (Altho this is 1979 not 1980, I just checked in Alan Minters autobiography!👍)

Wow this is great, I've never seen it before, it's a shame the amateurs don't get to keep the money they win though.

I loved this show! But it really wasn’t fair to make Thompson ride on his own!

  • @hazelwalsh3269

Not fair that Daley Thompson had to ride on his own. He had no-one to race against! Grrrrrr

lightning1975 Ha! Good observation. Also note the church going type lady giving all the athletes a good ol' push on their bikes. Probably makes a lovely cuppa and a ham sandwich.

As a teenage girl with an overdose of hormones, this programme certainly fuelled my imagination!

quizman1967 Surely you jest, Pickering and Vine were bloody awful, though to their credit they no doubt helped inspire Steve Coogan's Alan Partridge character.
