- Malo e lelei! In this vlog I finally got around to making the actual Keke Isite!! I made keke fuopotopoto before so this was my chance to make these perfectly round and delicious treats from Tonga! Thankyou to Mama Latu for the inspiring this recipe! Sorry if I pronounced this incorrectly! Enjoy!

Full Recipe - Keke Isite
Ingredients
5 cups plain flour (feel free to add more until desired batter is made)
3 cups warm water
3 tsp yeast
2 cups sugar
1 tbsp sugar (for yeast)
Oil to fry (at least 1.5L)
1) Firstly add 2 cups warm water and yeast and 1 tbsp sugar to small bowl and mix gently. Allow yeast to activate for 10mins.
2) To large bowl, sift 5 cups plain flour, 2 cups raw sugar and mix.
3) Add yeast/warm water mix
4) Add last cup of warm water and mix with hands. The type of texture has to be like soft dough enough so you can "squeeze" panikeke out of your hand. (Use more flour/water if need be but small amounts)
5) Allow dough to rise in warm place and cover for 45mins
6) Uncover and release air. Heat oil up for frying. Start scooping dough in hand and squeeze the keke isite out of your hand and drop into oil.
7) Once filled deep fry, turn over untol golden brown
8) Allow to cool and serve. Enjoy!

Impressed with your Tongan!! 😍 - Can tell you've either listened or learnt it a lot from the way you're reading. It takes a while to get used to the fakamamafa pau (upward inflections) that we put in for emphasis while speaking but sounds like you've gotten the hang of it! Keke looks good too!! Tōtōatu!

Ingredients 3 cups of warm water but you said on the video 2 cups of warm water 🤷🏻♀️
2 cups of warm water to mix with the yeast & sugar and you set aside the other cup of warm water to add in later.
How many calories is kekeisite
Hi don't want to correct you but the Keke isite is actually donuts.
No worries Pelenatita will change it Thankyou
We call this in hindi gulgulla this is the same way we make bro but we call gulgulla and you called something else
Molo veni
Is this similar to the tokelauan puta?
Mine ended up looking like taro😭
This is an original Samoan dish called "Panikeke". You can change the name if you want but its still the same. This is cultural dilution, we must conserve our Samoan culture and stop others from slowly but surely trying to claim our traditions.
I totally acknowledge the fact that Samoan Panikeke must of being the original. But majority of our Polynesian food especially Samoan, Tongan, Cook island and Niuean food are similar in a way. it is sucks other claim other tradition to be theirs, but we are all connected somehow. We probably we just need to educate ourself more of food and understand where it comes from so we can all embrace it together :)
@@N33261 as long as people know what the origins of each dish or traditions came from, theres no problem. But like you said people must be educated then thats fine. But you dont see Samoans making okai or any other dish and not giving credit to the original just saying.
