A gospel is an account describing the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. I don't think this song has ANYthing to do with that. So I wouldn't call it a Gospel song.
MrThetronica - Next time you're cruising wikipedia, check out 'gospel music'. 'Gospel music usually has dominant vocals (often with strong use of harmony) with Christian lyrics.' Sounds like a gospel song to me.
The way they melded the lyrics and music was sublime. I saw them 3/20/2001, the last show of their tour, in Albany NY. Hearing this song live was fantastic. They rocked!

HATE THAT RECORD SHOP
Canadian music is quite literally the best
Drove downtown in the rain nine-thirty on a Tuesday night,
just to check out the late-night record shop.
Call it impulsive, call it compulsive, call it insane;
but when I'm surrounded I just can't stop.
It's a matter of instinct, it's a matter of conditioning,
It's a matter of fact.
You can call me Pavlov's dog
Ring a bell and I'll salivate- how'd you like that?

cause right now I'm
[Chorus]
Lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did
Well I'm lying in bed just like Brian Wilson did.
So I'm lying here, just staring at the ceiling tiles.
and I'm thinking about what to think about.
Just listening and relistening to Smiley Smile,
and I'm wondering if this is some kind of creative drought
because I am
[Chorus]
And if you want to find me I'll be out in the sandbox,
wondering where the hell all the love has gone.
Playing my guitar and building castles in the sun,
and singing "Fun, Fun, Fun."
[Chorus]
I had a dream that I was three hundred pounds
and though I was very heavy,
I floated 'til I couldn't see the ground
I floated 'til I couldn't see the ground
Somebody help me, I couldn't see the ground
Somebody help me, I couldn't see the ground
Somebody help me because I'm
[Chorus]
Drove downtown in the rain nine-thirty on a Tuesday night.
Just to check out the late-night record shop.
Call it impulsive, call it compulsive, call it insane;
but when I'm surrounded I just can't stop.
If I could like this more than once... then I'd like it exactly 37 times.

Hello how are you doing
I agree the Bare Naked Ladies are an unjustly under-rated band.
The instrumentals on this song are brilliant, and I've always loved their ferocious lyrics.
The live version of this song kicks up the magic like 11 levels.
Best song of all time!
this version has soul and emotion passion and energy of a whole other uncomparable nature

This video sums up the 90's.
Not only are these guys talented and a great band, but they're hilarious as well.
I think the humor, schtick kept them from going super big 📻🎶💿💲. They had talent but were not boy band pretty. Not grungy.
On a BNL bender today. Definitely one of my favorites.
On a BNL bender, awesome band...great memories through their songs...
That's the best kind of bender.
I liked this group when I was younger, but now I'm really impressed how creative and clean their lyrics are. Nice rhythm too
Same. They were my favorite band as a kid in the 90s, but I didn't truly appreciate their genius until I was well into adulthood.
Everyone always brings up Steven and Ed but the drummer is highly underrated
**Profound statement about how this song relates to the era in which I grew up and how music hasn't been as good since.
Steven Page did a tour with a symphony earlier this year, and I was the photographer for one of the shows. They did a sound check and played this, and I was the only person in the room (besides the musicians and the sound guy)... I was in absolute awe. I love this song!

Top guys.. loved them for so many years .. used to play them driving with the family 20 years ago and we still talk about it now ❤️❤️❤️
Legend has it, Canadians still dress like that to this very day.
Begins to argue...looks in mirror...closes mouth
Why don't you stop looking at the legends and see for yourself ? And is they do? So what.
Lol you're an idiot
Agreed
I mean ur not wrong..
What a great tribute to Brian Wilson; makes me happy to know some band made a song in his honor
I'm a metalhead as well, but I make my love for these guys very well known.
I was a sophomore in college. Innocent as I have ever been. We were all starting to get wrapped up in drugs. Anyway, my best friend C.H. posted this song on his Facebook with the simple message, "Good Bye".
I ran to his apartment as fast as I could, and had to kick in the door. He was laying on the ground overdosed, near death. We threw him in the bed of a pickup and drove him to the ER. He survived that, but sadly, 8 years later, I no longer believe he is with us.
RIP, you were an amazing dude.
Barenaked ladies went way harder than we remember
wow, this has to be one of my favorite Barenaked Ladies songs ever! So beautiful!

I remember seeing these guys, when "if I had a million dollars" just came out,it was in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan,at an outdoor concert, I think it was around 1993, they were just AWESOME, I wish Steven Page would re-join the group. I think this is their BEST song ever!!!!
I miss Steven Pages voice in the band. This was the best era of them.
I agree his voice is so unique and beautiful.
Me too. Without him they're just not really BNL to me anymore. He was an essential ingredient to their sound.
Agreed!
One of the best voices !! Miss these guys

I still remember the first time I ever heard the BNL. It was the day they decided to jump into a Speakers Cornor booth and play. Much Music use to play the best clips of the week...many memories come back when I hear this band.
Brilliant!!! Saw them in concert in Detroit...unbelievable!!!

the one song that can give me chills
Brian Wilson is pretty much my deity, This is the best gospel song ever.
A gospel is an account describing the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. I don't think this song has ANYthing to do with that. So I wouldn't call it a Gospel song.
MrThetronica
He's just making a joke, chill.
MrThetronica The joke is that Brian Wilson was her deity.
MrThetronica - Next time you're cruising wikipedia, check out 'gospel music'.
'Gospel music usually has dominant vocals (often with strong use of harmony) with Christian lyrics.' Sounds like a gospel song to me.
oshawaxpress how is this "Christian" lyrics?
The way they melded the lyrics and music was sublime. I saw them 3/20/2001, the last show of their tour, in Albany NY. Hearing this song live was fantastic. They rocked!
The Harmony in this song is is beautiful! This and welcome to the old apartment are absolutely amazing!
