  • *This is not a EMERGENCY RESCUE TUTORIAL* (please read description below)
    Tucktec Kayak Self Rescue and Bouyancy Test of the 2020 Version of the Tucktec Folding Kayak. This technique may NOT work on the 2021 version.
    This video is NOT intended as a "what do to in case of emergency video". It is simply a test of the capabilities of the 2020 Tucktec kayak. I want to remind everyone to:
    1) always wear a PFD, or "life jacket"
    2) never kayak alone, if possible
    3) use the kayak as intended, staying on calm waters and close to shore whenever possible.
    Always be prepared for an emergency capsize and realize that, just like a standard recreational kayak, it may be very difficult or impossible to re-enter the kayak on open water. It's best to get to shore and/or call for help.

    This is something EVERYONE SHOULD practice in a calm lake, the more you practice this the better you will get at it. Practice this with a friend or 2 near by, after a few times you will KNOW exactly what to do and you will NOT PANIC! Thank you for thIs DEMONSTRATION.

    Because of this video Iam confident enough to buy a Tuctec kayak. Thank u for making this video and dispelling alot of scare tactics and bad information.. If u do ur part this is a safe and stabile kayak as intended and designed for calm waters. I think the having the PFD is key here as well as the using the bucket .. Thank u again :)

    I love my TT - but found mine sinking in the fast flowing river at night when I tipped (my fault). Watching your video I think if my boat didn’t have a bunch of stuff in it that got water logged and weighed down it may have floated. With that being said- I was lucky for the life vest I wore and the three girls that went with me, 2 of whom it took to make sure didn’t fully sink and drag across the river. Life Vest people and don’t go alone…

    Thanks for this video. On my hard shell sea kayak I have learned to crawl back in from deep water but I was unsure if the tuctec would even float if full of water. What a relief it was to watch this video! I will practice this move in shallow water near shore.

    Got a 2021 that should deliver any day now, just UPS delays. Anyway, I really appreciate seeing this, even if it's not the same model it's great to see a demonstration of the capabilities and limits this thing has, and I have to say it's looking better than I expected. Thanks a lot for the demonstration.

    This is done pretty well! Glad you are using a PFD, even in the pool. The Tucktec does not have any inherent flotation, like a bulkhead or large foam inserts at bow/stern, so I recommend using kayak-specific float bags which will keep the boat very buoyant. They will also displace water, so bailing becomes easier and no pre-bailing might be needed, depending on paddler size. Remember, when there's a capsize, the water conditions may be rough, so practicing the maneuver to re-enter should be done in a safe, calm environment. And always paddle with others!

    • @michaelbinetti5560
      @michaelbinetti5560  2 роки тому +2

      It does have some due to: 1) it’s material composition 2) the foam side rails and seat.

      As a cheap alternative, you can also just use beach balls! Place them in the bow and stern and inflate to fit. Bonus: you can play with them when you pull over for lunch and a swim!

    Fantastic video. You covered all of the necessary safety things associated with kayaking. You also could use a syphon pump to get the water out. I keep one in my kayak.

    • @michaelbinetti5560
      @michaelbinetti5560  3 роки тому +3

      Hey Lori, thanks for the reply. I do own and did use a bilge pump during my testing. It’s really not a viable solution for the scenario. You can really only effectively use the bilge pump when you’re sitting in a kayak. With this particular kayak once it is swamped you will not be able to re-enter until you have already bailed out the boat. Hence the need for the bucket.

    I am thinking of getting an origami vessel. This was very helpful. I was concerned about the safety and getting back in the boat. Just looking at the concept...I wonder if would work to have an aquarium water siphon hooked to the side along with the bucket and lights as part of a safety package? Maybe include a flare gun for those who are like me...In my care I carry a seatbelt cutter and glass shattering hammer along with a roadside emergency kit with flares...oh and I have an emergency survival blanket in there too.

    • @jamjaxn

      The premise of a siphon involves the water at the intake being higher than the exit. Unfortunately, the water level inside of the kayak is nearly identical to the external water level.
