Yamaha, just shut up and take my money. This bike is a straight win. I am absolutely getting it as soon as it comes out. I personally love the keyless, all my cars are, so happy for the bike now too, which will hopefully help as a theft deterrent device.
I have found that I have zero legitimate issues with my car's keyless fob. I've had lots of issues with my KTM keyless fob. Based on FB groups and forums, it's pretty damn common and I am not alone in this. Hopefully Yamaha's keyless fobs are higher quality and more reliable, but at this point, this feature is very low on my list of priorities for motorcycles. The KTM is my first motorcycle with a keyless fob, so it could just be that brand. I just know that I've been driven insane on long rides by having to press the "OK" button on my handlebars every few minutes because a huge yellow warning pops up, and there is no way to tell it, "OK, got it...STFU now!".
@@SoDakTwisties The Yamaha MT09 bikes are still made in Japan - I trust they have been doing ample and successful testing prior to approving it as a part of the SP package...
@@SoDakTwisties Never had a problem with my SDR 1290 keyless system except the battery needs replacing once every 2 years.
@@SoDakTwisties LOL I am sorry your KTM does that, sounds like just needs a flash? That would likely be covered by your warranty if still active. I understand that this is not for everyone, and contrary to the vocal minority I can live with and even still respect those who disagree with me. Mostly, I really like seeing anything that will help our bikes not get stolen.
Keyless is actually less secure in some ways. It is cool though for sure!
Bloody fantastic! It was great before... now it is even better and finally beautiful. Yamaha is killing it right now. First the GP and now this. ❤
Keyless is crap though. I just want to have a simple key.
Thanks for the quick, superb video!
Only SP for me! Hope it still comfortable for tall riders. Lower bars and the new S23 are a win.
I like keyless on cars, but for bikes i agree i like a key better.
Totally agree. See so much whinging and whining about how headlights did look/now look blah blah. Just look at what Yamaha are doing compared to the other Japanese manufacturers - proper exciting, edgy & cool bikes imo 👌
In order to start the motorcycle from the key, I imagine the motorcycle must be in neutral and one never leaves the motorcycle in neutral, I don't know why keyless, but I love this 2024
@@patrondeltrading agreed
With you. Had a keyless car & was always wondering where to put the key. Sometime “tech” isn’t really an upgrade.
The changes made were the only reason I picked the 890R instead, mainly the brakes. This is going to be a gem!
Something beautiful about putting a key in a motorbike, part of the experience✌🏽
Each to their own. I like leaving my key in my pocket, all my cars are keyless entry/start and i would never go back
Very true
With the new position and the new brake, they sre Clearly going toward a track machine instead of s wheelie machine. I have the sp 21 and i love it. That new 2024 looks even greater!
I've been watching this on repeat. By far the best video out right now showcasing the new 2024 MT-09. I appreciate all the work you put into this. It has me so excited! I will be selling my '22 MT-07 and picking up the new MT-09 SP as soon as they're available. This bike looks beautiful from every angle. Yamaha nailed the front end this time, I love how you can see the LED's from the side...gives the bike a very aggressive look. So many tech features to love also, especially for myself transitioning from a bare bones MT-07. That 3rd gen quickshifter is calling my name, I've never used one. Yamaha all the way!
You're in for a true delight! Throttle up wheelie on command!!!
You did a same day update! nice work Bob!!
Nice one Bob. Thank you. Love keyless in cars, prefer a key for two wheels. Perhaps this will change as in the 80’s and 90’s when ABS started to appear on two wheels I was on the side of never wanting it on any bike. Now I’m happy it’s there even if it never get used.
Ok , but R9
Yes dear
Have to leave something for EICMA 2024...
Just no...
XSR SP…
Is a myth
Gen 2 is still the best headlight for me
Agreed
Maybe I’ve missed it, but I think clutchless downshifts while accelerating are quite important to mention, thanks for the great video💪🏼
Why? This engine really doesn't require down shifts to accelerate.
@@JoeStanek-vu7rl on the track, there are definitely moments (after an error) when this feature will be handful.
@@JoeStanek-vu7rl
As opposed to the 765 RS😴😴
Absolutely love the backend of this bike... WOW, what an amazing-looking bike!!
Nice updates, here's to the R1 being updated with the Brembos at EICMA next week too!!
I prefer the aggressive look of the old tank, the way it slopes forward towards the front of the bike, the new tank looks a bit flatter on the top!!
Keyless for me is good as it saves time and reach time to on the bike. Saves a heap of a hassle of reaching keys in pocket. I have a 2023 Tech Max which I love the features
after having keyless on my 2022 Superduke Evo for ignition, steering lock and gas cap, id say on this bike I'd prefer a regular key. But it seems everyone will eventually go fob
Looks good, and nice that Yamaha have slapped some decent stoppers on there too! I was thinking of 890R as the next bike, but I might need to take one of these out
Honestly, the only reason i wanted the sp was for the cruise, with it being standard on the base model now, they saved me a little bit.
I like keyless ignition on a bike because I'm annoyed at having to put my gloves on after taking the key out of my pocket, start the bike, then put the key back in my pocket, then I can put on my gloves. I would love a keyless ignition... Walk up to the bike fully geared up, hop on it and go
My 2022 Triumph Rocket 3 does that. You enable the key fob and then you tuck it away and forget about it until you are done riding and then turn it off. Nice system.
Keyless ignition on a motorcycle sounds great, and it is great in terms of convenience....until that system stops working correctly. They're pretty susceptible to interference, and my KTM 1290 SAS has had its fair share of issues with the fob not being detected at times. Multiple full batteries, changing pockets and finally testing it in the storage up near the dash. Turns out my new, larger phone was causing some interference. Probably the Wi-Fi, BT and NFC all being on all the time...but at this point I am fully over my "keyless fob" feature. FFS, just give me a damn key. The last thing any KTM needs is another thing to break/stop working, because they've already won that contest, lol.
I have a normal key on my Tiger 900 and also have problems with phone interference with the immobilizer chip, so that's not a problem on keyless only.
@@CriticalRider That's pretty interesting. I'd have never imagined that could be a problem. I had always thought the key sent the signal through a physical connection, not wirelessly. Maybe just I don't understand how that immobilizer tech works in a physical key.
@@SoDakTwisties It's a KTM it is expected 😂, I never had any problems with my Honda or bmw keyless
It’s a KTM thing. I have a 2018 Honda GoldWing never had any issues.
Or until the key flies out of your pocket at 100+
The MT09 finally looks like a motorcycle. I never really considered buying a new motorcycle, but this could be the Jack of all trades i´ve been waiting for.
Keyless is not a big deal. I prefer old school key. No need for battery for the keys.
I love the look of the SP. the color is great I hope they keep up with it. I want one
Good upgrades, but what's up with the rectangle light in the middle of the headlight assembly? Seems uglier than before. Let's hope the windscreen will help somehow with this.
Wow. It’s really getting better. Love the change in headlight. Much better. I hope the mt10 gets some of this treatment too.
No the completely new mt10 was released this year, it doesn't need an update
@@Dtp2296 I could use a new front end… lol. Loved my 18. Was going to get the new hotness but hated the new looks and no power jump.
I can't unsee a mini welding mask covering the headlight..lol
If only it didn’t have that random rectangle in the middle of the headlight assembly. Almost good looking.
I will get - among the short tail update and a Akrapovic exhaust system - also a freshly designed flyscreen or a semi-tall touring windshield. Let's see what Yamaha or Puig etc. will have in store for us MT09 SP fans...
Exactly my thoughts!
Very nice looking bike… had the 2021 standard and the 2021 SP. day nigh difference… I’ll go 100% with the SP model. No question asked
Only in terms of handling?
Great information .I have had few MT09s and they all have improved with each new model release. I currently have the MT09SP 2022,
looks like it could be replaced now in 2024. I am a short legged rider hope they have not change the seat height.
Any info on what is happening with the xsr900? Is it going to get that same new dash and connectivity...?
Great another bike video without any on the road biking or touching a bike fantastic
seen some of the 25 model which I probably will wait for.
Im already planning on trading in my 2019 SP for this. Looks amazing. Only thing im not keen on is the keyless ignition.
Keyless system will definitely drain the battery faster due to the sensor is always "on"
In the U.S. the 2024 MT-09 Sp is $12,299 plus dest., the 2023 was $11,499 plus dest. The standard 09 (2024) is $10,599 plus dest.
im buying one the triple engine is perfect and the new brakes styling beautiful.
Looks like they’re moving the bike posture a little closer to the Street Triple.
My new duke 890 rear shock seal gave out with only 1200 on the odo so I’m definitely going to trade it in for this SP
Lets wait for the 2024 MT10 then
Nice review
There are just too many awesome bikes to choose from! MT-09, XSR900 GP, or fingers crossed... the R9.
Yeah, if I'd go for an MT, it would be the 09 and it would be the SP version. Anything else would be missing the point. I've been slowly upgrading my 2020 CB1KR to meet the kinds of features built into the SP. The only thing I won't be able to get (decently) is cruise control. And of course, the connectivity stuff and great TFT display. But, I can wait on that. Next year, the rear shock update is coming. :) Yippeee!
Looks much better! But don’t like the keyless option
I don't care about the Keyless.
But the Brembo callipers might allow the legal upgrade of those callipers on the base mt09 here in Germany. And that's fabulous news, if they bring out the R9 with the same forks.
Finally MT09 is likeable. Looks way better than prev gen
this is a massive win for yamaha the tweeks make all the difference
Definitely looking better.
Absolutely love it..could be trading the 07 in for this machine
I've got a 2020 MT09SP i only paid £800 pounds more it was well worth it what absolutely brilliant bike. Never liked the GEN 3 but the new sp is well worth considering.
I just don't understand motorcycle companies today. 20 years ago you'd have a motorcycle model in production for 3 or 4 years. Now they're making new models every year. How you do get parts for a 5 year old model if it was 4 models ago?
You can blame the Apple marketing model for that.
Defo the SP version for me, if I was in the market! I had the 2021 model and I loved it. If I did'nt have a 2020 BMW R 1250 R, would any day choose a Yamaha MT 09 SP, SUCH a good bike, so can only imagine that the new 2024 will be even better
Agreed if I didn't recently pick up a gen2 bmw s1000r
This 24 with the brembo brakes added would definitely be a pick. Shame they didn't put ohlins up front too
It looks WAY better then the last two years. I may be upgrading from my MT 07 to this one next year.
So WHAT’s the suspension upgrade exactly? Stiffer spring and new set up?
For me meaningful upgrade is new caliper
Looks better, nice!👍🏻
So did did anything changed soundwise ? I is it quiter the the 2023 modell or is it all the same ?
The base model is an extra 900 dollars over the 2023 model in the states,so I expect the SP to be at least £2k over the base model in the UK
I had to sell my 21 MT09SP as I couldnt put it in my moving pod. I will be getting the new 24 or R9, I havnt decided yet. But with the lower bars and rear sets moved I may just go with the MT.
they have to make this mt09 sp model a R9 model!! will sell like crazy! i want one!
Do i get the SP 2023 or wait till march next year and get the base modal the 2023 SP modal on offer at the moment
SP all day. There were a few at Philip Island for the World Superbikes, standard and SP versions. Riders were enthusiastic about them.
steering damper would be nice on this bike
Some great updates. Love the brand already owning an MT10 and XSR900. BUT. Keyless is a huge turn off for me. I've had a bike with it and it was a nightmare. Why Yamaha, why!
What bike did u have that is keyless
@heibaimao A Multistrada. Ongoing issues that the dealer just seemed unable to fix including the electronic steering lock remaining on but still being able to start the bike.
I also took a Triumph Rocket 3 out on a demo day. The bike stubbornly refused to find the key. 10 minutes with the Triumph tech and we found the key needed to be in a deferent pocket to my phone to work! Also that fob was huge!
The tech is ok when it works. For 7 years now I've just put the key in my MT10 and it's unlocked the steering and started the bike. Simple, mechanical and reliable.
Mt 09 will probably be my next bike next year
The front headlight needs to go back to the 2020 version, they're almost there...
I have the gen 3 sp bought it in June absolutely love it I would buy the standard version as it's got everything you need as for keyless on the sp I'm not a big fan I had it on my BMW f900 and wasn't keen
I understand your concerns - but this keyless go system is very likely to match the overall high quality standard (made in Japan) of the bike...
@@SirMountainpass I had an issue with the keyless system with no signal which it was something to do with a military base had to call the RAC out moved the bike a few miles and working again. I'd rather have a 🗝️
@@nipperthewestie4143 I see… Hopefully Yamaha has taken various (adverse) scenarios into consideration when developping the system with reliability being a top priority…
Cant wait to see how the 2024 MT10 evolved! MT 9 best in class IMHO.
Head light is definitely a improvement to the last one
We need the video for the new Hypermotard
How much is this SP going to cost? I've got the 2021 SP, I might consider upgrading.
Brembo brakes I'm assuming that this model gets the brembo master cyl too like base model
With the keyless, Could somebody try to ride away on the bike if say you're paying at the petrol station? Is there any option to turn it off and just have a normal key?
SP upgrades are definitely worth the extra money.
Brilliant bike worth every penny
I really consisded buying the 2023 mt09 sp but when I looked in person I was very Disappointed in the looks, the tiny tft and crappie brakes etc however this 2024 model looks to have addressed everything I didn't like with the previous model.. I will look forward to a close inspection hopefully at the NEC bike show
did they finally fixed TPS sensor issues this this one?
yea not a fan really brakes defo nice and needed but everything else meh all tho i do like the shape of the new tank that would be cool for an option for the 21/22 models
This new redesign has been heavily borrowed from their little known 150cc bike that's been available in India since 2015. The M Slaz. If only they went the whole 9 yards. That little thing is a true beaut. This Gen of the Mt 09 left a lot to be desired looks wise. On this one, It's a big improvement over the base model.
I have my M-Slaz.. first tine I saw this 2024 MT09 i swiftly imagined my M-Slaz headlight. Stil, that bike looks good and never grows old with its design.
Came out of Fort William in the truck, spotted something on the road...a BMW keyless fob...someone could then be 2hrs away before the bike is immobilised ,stupid idea on a motorcycle...i phoned the dealer, and told him to expect a call...left it with the Police!
One of the most amazing bikes in the world just got better!
Torn between this and the Street Triple 765. I can't be the only one.
Don't be. The yamaha is bulletproof. And if you do ever have a issue. Parts and service won't be far away. Triumph however, I've seen guys miss a whole riding season waiting on parts to come in.
I think Triumph will come with an updated street triple rs with the new dash just like the tiger 900 they just announced.
@tubejorrit I doubt that will happen so soon. I'll be pretty pissed off if they do after getting mine in April this year. But agree it needs to be better, it's the only thing that lets the bike down.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but don’t you have to take the Triumph bike to the dealer just to clear the service required lamp if you do your own oil change?
Keyless is useful for us who ride in dangerous towns
I don’t understand why they released my XSR900 with the smaller screen when they had this 5” unit waiting. A bit annoying.
I just wanna know can I switch out this headlight and put the gen 2 headlight on it gen 2 headlight is unbeatable and the best one they made
Not a fan of keyless.
Brembo brakes are a real plus point, I think the price will go up a lot though.
Getting a new bike tjus year. Mt09. Xsr09. Speed 765. What to choose
Keyless… NO NO NO! Everything else looks like a great update.
wait how much does it weigh. the last sp model was 4 or so killos heavier than the standard. what about this?
Keyless sucks on a motorcycle, at least Ducati had a code you could punch in if your key fell out of your pocket, but you still couldn't put fuel in it. I would pay extra to have an actual key, I mean if you take it for a track day then where do you put key?
I think the regular MT09 is worth the money over this version of the SP. Feels like the regular MT09 is basically an SP just with all the new upgrades in my opinion.
Sp is worth every penny!
They need to take the cyclops light out and it would look alot better lol. They took the 2018 light and last lights and smashed them together lol. They 2018 lights are undefeated so far
INFELIZMENTE AQUI NO BRASIL AINDA SÃO PRODUZIDAS AS MT-09 DE 2° GERAÇÃO, POR ISSO COMPRAMOS HONDA QUE ESTÃO SEMPRE ATUALIZADAS COMO A CB 650 OU A CB 1000.
sounded great until you said they lowered the bars and raised the foot pegs. that was the whole attraction for me that its sporty but you sit upright without your knees bent too much so its more comfortable to ride.
Nice vid. Looks like a great spec. Although I couldn't care less about it being keyless. Seems like a pointless gimmick with more cons than pros to me.
Looks good and the sp is definitely worth the xtra 1500
Hi! For me, the more important question is whether it is worth paying (at least here in Austria) most likely 2.000-2.300 Euro more for the SP variant. Considering how little extra the SP variant brings compared to the normal one (now the normal MT-09 comes with cruise control and Quickshifter), I think many will go for the "basic" one.
Thanks for the videos Motobob, keep them coming! 😊✌🏼
It is always worth going straight for the SP version 😃🏁🏁
It's the same with the Street Triple, always get the RS model for resale value. Same goes for the MT09
If you have this question, it's very probable that you don't need the SP. For me better suspension is a must, Stylema brakes are probably a nice bonus. Engine braking modes could be useful as well.
@@dizzicz I much agree with you ✌️Already now, I am able to exploit the max. potential of my (heavily modified) 2020 SP on the track as well as up and down the most demanding mountain passes in the Alps. Now, I could imagine that the new 2024 SP with all the high-quality upgrades would enable me even more as passionate rider 😅🏁🏁
Maybe I'd like the keyless entry but Ive already broke the back of my last 2 phones over the years because it flew out my jacket that I thought I had closed. Guess it needs to be a inside the jacket with a zipper type of deal.
I have been looking for something like this. The MT09 SP may be my next bike. I was thinking seriously about the KTM 990 Duke. It looks great in reviews but is is a KTM and there is nothing cool about missing big chunks of the riding season with your bike in the shop. I have spoken with owners of earlier models of the MT09 and they gush like smitten young girls about them. Current KTM owners are still in love, but former KTM owners tell different stories. Stories I do not want to live through. I need reliability and excitement in my life as far as my bike is concerned. To me, the SP is worth the extra cost. YMMV.
On my 2020 Triumph Speed Triple RS the keyless ignition was somewhat pointless as the rider could fire up the engine and drive away few hundred meters and nothing happened (I was still holding the key in my pocket staying stationary). Not tested on greater distances but someone could steal your bike still and hide it within this range o_O
In my experience a keyless bike will only start if the key is within 1 meter of range. For safety reasons the bike won't shutoff if the key is out of range of course.
Can you bump start a keyless bike?
