I own an acoustics consultancy and we often conduct noise testing against the Aussie design guide for vehicle exhaust noise. That exhaust is interesting. Standards require measurement at 45 degrees to the side of the exhaust outlet. With a horizontal exhaust, the measurement point is 45 degrees off-axis which is only a couple of dB quieter than on-axis. With a downward facing exhaust the measurement point is at 90 degrees to its axis which is typically up to 8 dB quieter (maybe 5 with ground reflection). The exhaust can therefore be louder and still comply at the measurement and bystander locations. Same goes for the amplifier grills because the measurement points are lower to the ground. Very clever, Yamaha. Beats the way Harley cheats their way around the noise emission standards!

Well, as an MT 09 firts gen owner I have to disagree in some points. Some of us really got this bike because I was some kind of supermotard when it came to ergos and riding but with a lower maintenance and more comfortable on daily basis, it was special a different approach to a naked. Now they took the bike into the same filosofy as the other bikes on the segment in part I think because of the magazine reviews but not based on the MT 09 owners. Still a great machine, don't get me wrong but sometimes being unperfect is the way to go on the riding experience.

It looks amazing! I think it is the BEST looking generation. I liked everything about the third gen aside from the transformer cyclops headlight. I was back and forth conflicted about that headlight. Sometimes I thought it was okay, other times not so much. And it was WAY TOO HIGH. There is a lowering kit that brought it down by 3 inches which helped significantly but it was still an odd headlight. This 4th gen though? PERFECTION. The headlight front end is lower and the lines smoothly transition into the tank. Those lines then flow all the way into the seat and bodywork around it. I like that the LED 'eye slices' don't look too much like eyes, I actually dislike all the 'eyes' headlights on modern bikes. This has more of an Iron Man mask look, the eyes are still there, but more sci fi and less blatant googly eyes.
The MT09 is sweet but the fact that it doesn't have top of the line brakes and suspension is a bummer, but that's just another reason to but the MT09 SP!
Absolutely love it apart from the Colour choice & that exhaust needs to be changed for a Yoshi!! The Sp looks more my cuppa tea!! Great review fella please do get the Sp to review??🤞🏻👌🏻👍🏻
I got a Kawasaki Z400 as my first street bike and I'm glad I did. It still scared me when I first started riding it and then over the course of a year I've pretty much mastered it. Still very fun but it doesn't scare me anymore and I like being a little scared😆. To tell you the truth it's not whether you can handle the power of the MT09 in regular conditions because most people could handle this bike as a first bike in regular conditions. It's in high stress, emergency, or think fast conditions where it will matter. I've rode the z400 for a year and I'm thinking about upgrading to this bike now. But if I would have gotten the mt09 first I would probably be dead or seriously injured right now. Also you WILL drop your first bike. Do you really want that to happen with a bike that will cost at least $13,000 out the door? Or even worse wreck it and have costly repairs or even worse total it and still owe the bank all that money? And last but not least as a new rider bike insurance is much more expensive than for people who are experienced. And the more displacement and value of the bike the higher the insurance. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
I bought a 2020 and really liked the looks of the double headlights. The only thing keeping me away from the new bike is the cosmetic design. I really don’t like that mask looking cowl on the front. Looks silly.
Got my das in 2 weeks, hoping to pick up a cb650r early next year, as an mt09 is way too expensive to insurer. Will be holding off until I see the new mt07 tho
Hey MotoBob! I have a question. Between this MT09 2024 & the current XSR900 (not the GP), which one has more aggressive ergonomic riding position? Or which is more relaxed? Thank you.
I've been wondering, is the motorcycle viby? Like does it have a lot of vibrations? I've been looking into buying one but have never had a triple before. I have only had 4-cylinder bikes before. Cbr600rr and a mt10
I'd love to buy one, been waiting since I first saw reviews of it. They just don't have any available in my area, let alone in the midnight cyan color I'd prefer.
Like the bike , but I’m to old to ride one ( oh my back 😂) reference foot pegs please manufacturers go back to rubber ones , and self cancelling indicators, Nope , there dangerous, tried them and they turn off to early , before you even get to the turn , causing confusion to other road users , I just turn them off and use the manual function , as for looks it’s practical not a design thing .
I had a 2015 Tracer 900 for a few years but always felt that I should have chosen the naked MT09. This new model might very well be the one for me…………….(if I can convince my financial institution that yet another motorcycle is a necessity 😁)
I'm stuck between this or an R1... Very different bikes I know but I feel like I should just get the R1 as I won't have the opportunity to buy a brand new one in a few years and the price of them is probably going to go nuts like the R6! So maybe R1 now, MT09 later (don't want MT10, prefer the triple sound for the naked bike).
I was considering buying one, but seeing that pig ugly exhaust has given me second thoughts. I'm not overly keen on the headlight unit either but I could maybe learn to accept that, not the exhaust though.
Honestly, its no exaggeration that this is one of the best motorcycles in history

New look is okay but 2020 model hits different 😊😊
Alright, I will put one on your card, thanks mate! I go just buy one on your expense!
I would buy this if the headlights were that of the 2020 model. They were Shit hot!
My favorite bike 😍 Love it!
Amazing sounding cute triple cylinder bike :3 ❤
Morning from San Francisco, California 🇺🇲 🌴 ❤️
Best looking mt 09 so far
Putting my order in
Absolutely love it apart from the Colour choice & that exhaust needs to be changed for a Yoshi!! The Sp looks more my cuppa tea!! Great review fella please do get the Sp to review??🤞🏻👌🏻👍🏻
Would you recommend this for a first bike?
Not really - an MT-03 or MT-07 would be a more sensible idea while you improve your riding. Even the MT-07 has the tendency to pop the front up 🤪
No, get the MT-10 SP.
No, definitely get a turbo busa.
Street triple rs sounds beautiful, this bike ain't even come close to that
Get out of here the mt-09 sounds awesome
Got my das in 2 weeks, hoping to pick up a cb650r early next year, as an mt09 is way too expensive to insurer.
Will be holding off until I see the new mt07 tho
I have the XSR 900 first gen and I can not imagine a better engine than the CP3. Moreover, it is very economical. I do 60mpg.
Keep that first gen XSR900 forever man. Probably one of the coolest looking bikes ever made and I'm still trying to get my hands on one.
@@DB-sd3cw thank you! Love your comment.
Nice Review! ❤ Please Tell me what shoes are that on the Quickshifter part? 😊
Vans Sk8-Hi MTE-2
In another shot (while riding), he has on Furygan shoes, it seems. French brand. I have a pair and they're great.
Thank you! Can i ask you wich Model you own?
Bro that screen bezel looks like it’s from the 90’s 😂
that exhaust is shocking haha
What’s shocking is Yamaha hasn’t figured out a decent cat system!!
🙄🤦♂️
Love it! I’d go the extra yard and have the SP version, though.
Just ugly my choice in this class is Husqvarna Svarpilen 801 love it. MotoBOB can't wait for its review😊❤❤
Hey MotoBob! I have a question. Between this MT09 2024 & the current XSR900 (not the GP), which one has more aggressive ergonomic riding position? Or which is more relaxed?
Thank you.
Up right position or more relaxed position is very important to know for me. Thank you.
I've been wondering, is the motorcycle viby? Like does it have a lot of vibrations? I've been looking into buying one but have never had a triple before. I have only had 4-cylinder bikes before. Cbr600rr and a mt10
Yamaha should definitely make an R9 🙏
I'd love to buy one, been waiting since I first saw reviews of it. They just don't have any available in my area, let alone in the midnight cyan color I'd prefer.
i have 1.90m, do you think this new 09 is good for tall guys?
I’d use Calimoto if only they have a simple option “avoid unpaved road”
Like the bike , but I’m to old to ride one ( oh my back 😂) reference foot pegs please manufacturers go back to rubber ones , and self cancelling indicators, Nope , there dangerous, tried them and they turn off to early , before you even get to the turn , causing confusion to other road users , I just turn them off and use the manual function , as for looks it’s practical not a design thing .
Beautiful looking machine!
Lovely ride
That exhaust... that frikin exhaust...
Mate any idea what the range on that tank would be? It’s either this bike, or the street triple Rs. Looks like this has it all to be fair.
I had a 2015 Tracer 900 for a few years but always felt that I should have chosen the naked MT09. This new model might very well be the one for me…………….(if I can convince my financial institution that yet another motorcycle is a necessity 😁)
Good luck 🤣🤣
I'm stuck between this or an R1... Very different bikes I know but I feel like I should just get the R1 as I won't have the opportunity to buy a brand new one in a few years and the price of them is probably going to go nuts like the R6! So maybe R1 now, MT09 later (don't want MT10, prefer the triple sound for the naked bike).
I was considering buying one, but seeing that pig ugly exhaust has given me second thoughts. I'm not overly keen on the headlight unit either but I could maybe learn to accept that, not the exhaust though.
What i think about this bike is ... im getting one
