- Wrestling Bios Presents - The Story of The Four Horsemen in WCW
When it comes to the greatest and most decorated factions in pro wrestling, The Four Horsemen will be at the top of many people's list. Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Ole Anderson and James J. Dillon had it all, they had success, ring skills, incredible promo abilities, they truly were at the top of the wrestling world during the mid 80s.
Throughout the years, The Four Horsemen had entertaining feuds with the likes of The Road Warriors and Magnum TA, but the most memorable feud the Horsemen probably ever had was against Dusty Rhodes. The Horsemen vs Rhodes captured the imaginations of fans worldwide, and people were willing to spend money to see Flair vs Rhodes for the NWA title.
As the years went on, some of the Horsemen left, and new members were added. Among them were the incredibly talented Barry Windham, newcomer Lex Luger, Sid Vicious, Paul Roma and Brian Pillman just to name a few. As the landscape of WCW changed over the years, the Horsemen tried to adapt but ultimately, the popularity of the nWo may have caused the end for the elite faction.
This Mini documentary from Wrestling Bios takes a look at Ric Flair and The Four Horsemen. Topics covered include:
01:40 - How Ric Flair began teaming with The Andersons
03:44 - The Introduction of Tully Blanchard
05:17 - J.J Dillon becomes the manager
05:58 - How The Four Horsemen got their name
08:20 - Lex Luger joins The Four Horsemen
09:55 - Arn and Tully leave WCW to join the WWF as "The Brainbusters"
12:20 - Sting joins The Four Horsemen
14:17 - Paul Roma becomes a Horseman
15:03 - Brian Pillman joins The Four Horsemen
16:26 - The nWo vs The Four Horsemen
- Much More!

I attended a meet and greet with ric flair last year. He spoke at length many times about the horsemen with pride. He also did the four finger pose for every picture. It's obvious what the faction means to him.
Arn was a hell of a performer and interview but always looked 30 going on 50.
Fire me I'm already fired
Be that as it may, he HASN'T aged to this day. He may be out of the Ring but he still looks like he's ready to go.
John Derek Mitchell True, even today Arn still looks 30 going on 50. Hasn’t aged a month in the last 2 decade.
Arn Anderson was born 43 years old. When he was 4, his hair started receeding. When he was 7, Arm Anderson defeated two bears and a coyote who were fighting over a salmon. He healed the salmon and put it back in the river. That salmon grew up to be Adam Cole.
@@paulsletten8985 😁
I used to be acquainted with Arn Anderson back in the mid 90s. Super nice guy. I remember after his back surgery, he showed my his crazy long scar. He's someone who really appreciated the fans.
My aunt lived next to Ole in Charlotte in the 80s. So many great stories. Wrestling was as real as can be too her and I loved her passion.
@@michaelgriffith5747 a buddy of mine used to live on the same street at Ole too! Lots of stories about Ole being grumpy 😂
I definitely saw a Barry Windham interview where he said that the 4 Horsemen "lived that gimmick"
@Jacks Hammerer if you didn't, he made you, im sure 🤣
Dusty Rhodes had his leg broke like 10000 times in the 80's. My favorite is the parking lot beat down. Dusty booked his own ass whipping 🤣🤣🤣
No wonder he joined ecw
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dusty was like the Anti-Bob Orton who broke his arm once and had it in a cast for 8 years.
😁
Just found this channel. Wow this guy works HARD!!!
I'm binging like mad, the nostalgia is too much!!!!!
I can be a hater by nature but this channel....OFF THE CHAIN
I so agree with everything you just said!!!
He really does his content is amazing
Welcome aboard and pace yourself!
Agreed! Watch so many of these now lol
4 Horsemen of WCW = Legendary. Thank you, Wrestling Bios. Great job as always.
Arn was / is a badass. Probably my favorite of the Horsemen
One of thebest spinebusters in the business
@@brandonjacobs8149 Arn invented it, but I believe Ron Simmons is the only one who did it better
Arn was underrated in general, definitely my favourite of the original Horsemen
Mine would have to be brian pillman
I gotta go with Flair
I think with Windham, the horsemen were at their absolute best!
As much as I like the original 4...I'd have to agree, I was big time NWA by this time...in middle school and no longer interested WWWF, Windham was big and strong and could wrestle too, he was actually the best of the four, alot of us still viewed him as the other half of Windham and Rotunda, Rotunda wasn't a push over either, original Varsity Club member.
100%
Haa!
Your Damn Right.
😄👍
Also, your videos are fuckin hilarious. Thank You for the entertainment 👍
Ah, another Chiseled Adonis sighting. Greetings my dude 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Yep.
The single Best & most Dominant Wrestling Faction of All time.....Period.
@Robert Lawrence there is no nWo without the horsemen
nWo
WWF > WCW get over it fanboy
Greatest faction of ALL TIME!! Ric, Arn, Tully & Ole WERE wrestling in the 80's! Great video. I've also always said that Tully Blanchard was one of most underrated wrestlers/workers ever.
This is true if you ignore the far more profitable and popular wrestlers in that other company. And Tully is a god.
@@gst013 what others? "In the 80's"... you probably didn't read the part. In the 80's there was no greater faction than the Horsemen. "Popular or profitable", no matter the promotion,?the Horsemen are still the greatest wrestling faction EVER.
@@JohnLoeffler78you probably don't remember writing "of all times" unless it's YOU who doesn't understand
@@mikescott8903 I understood the post perfectly.
@@JohnLoeffler78 that's not true. According to your own words ...you don't...try again
In the history of wrestling, we've had so many great factions over the years, DX, NWO, The Hart Foundation, The Nation, Evolution to recent groups such as The shield and The Wyatt but when it's all set and done, the Four Horsemen for me will go down as the greatest faction of all time
IMO the best faction since the 4 horseman is undisputed era
@@unlimitedayoproduction2452 they absolutely didn't suck. Their music was fire, they made 2 future world champions, gave Flair his confidence back and did what heel factions do.
@@unlimitedayoproduction2452 if you say so. I personally liked Evolution
NWO FTW
Where do The Fabulous Free birds fit in with the greatest groups? What about The Von Erichs?
Benoit never got enough credit as a Horseman...he was perfect for it. The way his life ended doesn't change that.
I think the same way about Milenko as well. He and Benoit were great, Chris was a good replacement for Ole and Milenko for Blanchard.
Lol I'm pretty sure Benoit gets a ton of credit for upholding the Horsemen pedigree. Where have you heard otherwise??
@@SplitGoose I will never look at a man who murdered his wife and child in the same way again. No one ever looks back fondly at OJs time with the Buffalo Bills.
Benoit was a great wrestler, but he was also a MURDERER, who does not deserve to be glorified.
B Ramirez I’ll glorify who the hell I please. And there is a DIFFERENCE between a murderer and someone not in control of their actions because of Brain damage and testosterone toxicity. No one stops to consider how he lived, which was as a loving father. His and their ending was horrible, but it does NOT define them as people and anyone who thinks it does is a fool.
These mini documentaries are so well done, thoroughly researched and well produced. I love this channel so much.
Better than “wrestling with Andy” that guy mentions Bret hart in every video
The Horsemen ring walk music used to give me goosebumps and I still find myself putting my headphones on and listening to it on UA-cam 👌🏻
Which theme?
The one that Anderson used as his entrance music (which Benoit would also use on occasion) was always cool. It took a little time, but I eventually grew to like the last theme as well (the one that had the horse sounds).
The setup with Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko in it is my favorite Horsemen team. 😊
Even after all these years, I’m still upset that WCW didn’t actually put Curt Hennig in the Horsemen alongside Flair, Benoit & Malenko.
I’m also still upset that WCW didn’t reunite the Hart Foundation when Bret Hart, Davey Boy & Jim Neidhart were all in the company together. We could’ve saw the Hart Foundation vs the Horsemen.
@@Voysh2Voysh69 I've heard Horsemen vs Hart Foundation were planned, but they canceled it
The 4 Horsemen r hands down pro wrestling greatest Faction
Hahaha the nWo says hi
Horsemen were the NWA's greatest faction, The NWO were WCW's greatest faction.
NWO wasn’t about being great. The horsemen were. NWO was a direct rip off from Japan.
Degeneration X,NATION OF DOMINATION
DUDLEY CLAN IS MY FAVORITE
The nWo even paid homage to the Four Horsemen with the whole 4-Life thing
Both the 4 Horsemen and Evolution are and will always be the best heel factions in wrestling history. And for those saying the Elite would've ran rings round either of them in their prime need to give their heads a wobble.
Another great video as always.
*roman reigns theme hits
I wish Evolution had stayed together longer. I really liked that faction. They definitely represented the 4 Horsemen well.
I don't know about that 🤔🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Nation of Islam
DX
Hart Foundation
NWO
This guy. I bet you wear khaki jean shorts cut above the knee.
DX BABY
This is way better than watching today’s wrestling on tv for me. This channel deserves more subscribers...where’s all the true wrestling fans at? Click if you agree & spread the word!
The Four Horsemen is one of the legendary group in professional wrestling history!!!! The only person who discovered it, is Ric Flair who made the group more popular, and that's the truth!!!!👍👍👍👍
Sid Vicious, reminds me of Sabertooth from Xmen: The Animated Series.
Sabretooth was a badass
Sid just pretended to be
Brian Awesome except for the facial hair... and the uniform.. and the white eyes......... Maybe he reminds you of someone else 🤷♂️
😂😂😂😂
@@ComicBookGuy420 Keep underestimating old Sid, until Apocolapsye makes him one of his horsemen.
@@BrianAwesome I still don't see Sabertooth in Sid bro, but whatever floats your boat
We need a Barry Windham bio video!!
They actually forgot him in wrestling lore. He was great in the NWA days
Definitely. I enjoy his shoot interviews.
@@GEricG except that promo he cut when Sid was a member as Barry stumbled with his words naming Luger, Stuger and Sting, Lind, Stuger and Ling, omg lmao.
When Flair return, he got such a huge pop during that segment.
This video is gold, it hasn't even started and you get my thumbs up.
It takes a lot for me to be a real fan of channels on UA-cam but you sure have made me a fan since I found your channel a while back. Your bios are well research and presented. Keep up the great work.
Once again, great video!👍🏻 One thing I wanted to touch on was Arn Anderson's coming into JCP. While I don't doubt that RIC Flair could've brought up Arn Anderson's name to Jim Crockett Jr (as Ric and Arn were friends before Arn came in) it was Bill Watts, while thinking of who he should send with Matt Bourne for some tag matches in the territory, that at the suggestion of the Junkyard Dog, told Bill Watts that Marty Lunde (Arn's real name) "looks like an Anderson. Send the kid with Bourne, turn him into an Anderson." Bill Watts got ahold of Ole, Ole said he'd check him out, and in the end, that's what happened, with Ole giving him (Arn) his name. Now maybe that's getting a little off the main story of the Horsemen itself, but it's something Arn has said many times in interviews, and I always found it interesting as well. That's all. The video was awesome. You touched on all the important parts that needed to be told, as well as giving the appropriate amount of time that each particular line-up was deserving of as well. Seriously, as someone who saw those first teaming of the original members at the age of 12 when it first happened, as well as the various lineups that came to be afterwards, I think you did a great job! 👍🏻 "That's nice bruddah, what you did there."😉
They were always loved in Tulsa, UWF. Those were such awesome times as a kid. Ted DiBiasie, Steve Owens, Sting was pretty much a kid, the Fabulous Freebirds, Fantastics, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Rock n Roll Express, The Midnight Express, ROAD WARRIORS, Flair, Terry Taylor, Shawn Michaels and more! Good times. Makes me think of my sister that I just lost :(. We had fun going to those wrestling matches down at the Convention Center. They even had a few outdoor events at the racetrack what is now Horse Track. Good memories and if you of guys that were a part of that read this post. Thank you! Thank you for slapping the little red headed boy’s hand when you ran out to the ring.
Sometimes on these 20 minute videos, I will click intending to watch half, and come back later.
Then I realize I'm at the end of the video wishing there was more.
You have a great talent for telling these stories. Thank you for another great one.
Sid always felt like hired muscle. Him being a "member" of the Horsemen seemed to be just a technicality. Sid and the Horsemen mutually benefited from each other: Kayfabe, Sid needed more exposure, The Horsemen needed a strong 4th body that could inflict damage. People poopoo it now, but at the time, it worked a decent purpose.
The first major faction in wrestling history.
Were they before Fabulous Freebirds?
@@dbradandthem2727 good call
@Sam Williams Hmmm, as racist as they were, I was a HUGE Freebirds fan...I gotta debate you on your perception.... respectfully of course b/c this is entertaining talk to me....
Not even close.
Old School it’s hard to tell I think they came out in the same year I was a HUGE wrestling fan back then I watched mid south wwf and nwa I tried watching wccw but couldn’t get into it I saw the awa
Barry wyndam was an unsung hero! My favorite as a kid!
Jack Deedman
I know! The superplex was awesome then.
Barry Wyndham vs Flyn Brian taped fist match is 👌👌👌
Would love to see a full Four Horsemen documentary from you. Love your work you always leave me wanting more. Keep up the great content.
For me The Four Horsemen will always Be Flair, Ole and Arn Anderson, and Tully Blanchard. They were the best all time.
I grew up in the Flair, Arn, Benoit, Steve McMichael and Dean Malenko days. I thought they were really cool.
my favorite group in wrestling the 4 horsemen
Who ever has this UA-cam page...YOU SIR...ARE THE REAL WRESTLING MVP!!!!!! EXCELLENCE. I rarely go back to someone's UA-cam page....Love EVERY one of these bro. Im buying a Tee ASAP.
Ric flair, arn, ole and Benoit would be my Four Horseman dream team. The greatest heel faction
I used to hate Tully so much back then. I mean in a good way. I just kept waiting for someone to take the tv title from him. But I came to love Tully and Arn as the "brain busters" in wwf
You're damn right Tully Blanchard was and is underrated as hell. Truly the underappreciated horseman. But being the dimmest star of the horseman meant you still shone brightly nonetheless.
Finally without a doubt the coolest heel faction ever the four horsemen diamonds are forever and so are the horsemen
Idk best heel faction ever. Evolution takes that imo yes horseme are the og but everyone in evolution is a world champ. How many of the OG horsemen worse world champs..
@@smhgaming3259 how many times did you copy paste the same comment?

Hand's down, I 've always felt that the Windham era was the very best!!!
Nah, Lex.they were at their best during the best era with Lex.
No. with windham they had all the championships, and the beat downs were more crisp.
Besides, windham laps luger in terms of the Horsemen mean streak.
Barry Windham is underrated as well
Windham's problem is that he couldn't stay in one company longer then a year or two.
Hey man, thanks for this channel. It's really cool for someone who missed out on some of this stuff back in the day. These videos go into a lot more detail than I'd expect from UA-cam.
The Pensacola Florida area!!!! I was just a little baby then but I heard all the stories of all the legendary wrestlers who spent time in this area.
I have read a little about Southeastern Championship and Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling . Must have been a fun time during the late 70s and 80s!
The original Four Horsemen are the greatest of all time. With out a doubt.
I agree 1986 was my favorite year in Pro Wrestling.
Agree with you totally on Tully being totally underrated. As a kid, his feuds with Magnum and with Dusty were amazing and are still all time favorites of mine.
The best incarnation of the Horsemen were Tully, Ric, Arn and Barry
That's the 4 Horsemen i remember most fondly
@nKosi Ama Kosi , same the originals.
I always felt Barry was better as a face. Ole was the intimidating one in the horsemen.
Lex Luger had no business in The Horsemen
@nKosi Ama Kosi A dark dark day when Tully & Arn left I hated it.
The Andersons didn’t lose the tag titles at starrcade, the RnR express retained them.
Didn't watch WCW but love the Four Horsemen
You missed out
The Horsemen is the greatest faction (face or heel) in wrestling history.
I still have the Sept 14th 98 Nitro on VHS. Such a legendary night
Tully was a great heel.
Best member of the 4 Horsemen.
That parting shot at the end says it all. Without question the best version of the horseman was Ric, Arn, Tully and Barry.
Thank you for the absolute awesome memories u r bringing back to me about the world of professional wrestling I had almost lost and forgotten!👍💪👊
The Flair, Anderson, Pillman, and Benoit iteration was always my favourite
Me too
@@benoitbornais948 the unpredictability of Pillman, the technical intensity of Benoit, Flair's showmanship, and Arn's strength and experience, the perfect stable

Love your stuff Wrestling Bios. I hope one day you do territories. As a kid I got to see a lot of various territorial promotions, but there's a lot i know very little to nothing about like St. Louis, Pacific Northwest, Southeast. Southwest, Amarillo, etc.
Quality research and presentation as always. Keep up the great content!
Excellent job. My favorite Wrestling Bio video yet. Two suggestions for the future, Harley Race and Haku.
Give me a faction that has seen the amount of talent this one has. Flair, the Andersons, Benoit, Malenko. We're talking pure wrestling talent.
The original especially the faction with Barry may have been the best version. Barry was a thoroughbred and great all around. Any fan of Barry remember when he was the Yellow Dog in Florida Championship Wrestling.
one of the ABSOLUTE best theme musics ever. if that doesn't get you ready for a fight, then i dont know what does
Without question the four horsemen will go down as one of the greatest groups of all time definitely top 5

1986 -1988 was the REAL Horsemen. When Tully and Arn left the NWA in 1988,that truly was THE END.
Awesome. The Four Horsemen will never be surpassed.
I first saw the Horsemen when Luger was in it. My favorite incarnations were with Sting and the Benoit & Malenko.
Same here just found this channel and it's amazing!!!!I miss the old wrestling days, they were the best!
I became aware of JCP on TBS in mid 1986 when my family first got cable...and Horsemen v Dusty, Magnum, etc were super hot. In my opinion the original five (Arn, Ole, Ric, Tully and JJ) were the best iteration, but yes, with Barry Windham in the group their ring work was outstanding.
Best channel on here been here since first few subscribers and each time new video is released it makes my day
I remember that interview when Arn coined the name. Double A was one of the best ever on the mic. To me Arn was an all around wrestler. Same as Tully. But I give Arn the edge.
Tully is my favourite horseman
Tully was gold should've been World's Champion

Just want to say I love your videos and all the research you’re doing.
Tully Blanchard and ARN Anderson are so underrated.
Ole, Arn, Tully, and Ric is the ORIGINAL!! 💯💯
Brother i love your videos i dont subscribe to channels very often but you get straight to the point and you really do give a real in depth perception of the wrestlers careers that you do please keep up the good work!!!
Revolution and Evolution were great spiritual successors to the 4 houseman. Revolution just didn't have time to grow. Just my opinion.
You forgot to mention that JYD was the reason that Arn was teamed up with Ole. Great video
As long as Arn and Flair was there it was The Horsemen, but it sure didn't hurt to have guys like Tully, Ole and Dillon. Personally also really liked having Benoit in a later version - the dude was a legit looking badass with crisp work and the Horsemen was never about size. The problem with Luger is that he isn't cool. He has a good look and that's about it. He's a charisma-black hole.
It was good that JJ Dillon could get some good paychecks and in turn a steady job in WWE based on having been a part of the Horsemen. Dillon had a special needs child that cost him and his wife a lot of money to take care of, so it kinda saved a veteran from going broke.
I think Sid could have worked if they hadn't tried to push him as a regular Horseman but more of a bodyguard. The actual Horsemen had to be sharp and scheming. Sid wasn't exactly the brainy type.
Pillman didn't so much leave WCW for ECW as he asked Bischoff to be released. Bischoff say he could go work for ECW but not WWE till his contract was up.
LWO 4 Life
Probably will watch this more than once great video
Yup had to watch it twice!
"Paul Roma can put that on his resume for life , I was a four horsemen" true... But Embarrassment

I had to chuckle a little. To me he was mostly just a jobber in WWF.
So can Mongo and Jeff Jarrett.
You HAD to open this with trolling. AEW/the Elite aren't subject, the Horsemen are. Great vid as always, just chill.
This channel is the greatest channel on UA-cam by far
This was an amazing video. Learned a lot.
Ole Anderson is one of those old school legit tough guys you absolutely wouldn't want to get into a bar fight with, not some cut up "monster".
