I still have fond memories of the first three movies. Although the more I watch them, the more I realize Greg was pretty much the main villain. Rowley deserves so much better.

I think he's just protecting and trying to scare his brother away to hide stuff from him and keep his innocence, and he pisses on him!! And always plays the victim card through all 3 of them. I dont think ive watched any of them in close to a decade. But i remember I watched them on dvd like once every 6 months for years. Atleast the first 2. The 2nd will never not be a perfect film ever

39:18 HUGE departure from the book. Say whatever else you want about him, Zoo-Wee-Mama WAS Greg's idea. First he wrote and drew everything, then Rowley asked for more to do, so Greg let him draw. He didnt like that, so he let Rowley write the speech bubbles. He didnt like that, either, so they parted ways. Greg came up with Creighton the Cretin, submitted it and actually won! BUT the editor of the paper completely changed the cartoon to make it more "educational" for students, to where it was then called Creighton the Curious Student, to where they started calling Greg a suck up, so he pulled the cartoon altogether. Which is when they replaced it with Rowleys edition of Zoo Wee Mama, and when Greg confronted him about it, Rowley said it was all HIS idea.
Rowleys parents are safety freaks and won't let him dress up as anything remotely dangerous or violent. They took off the knight's helmet, cut a hole so he could see better, made him wear a sweater over the rest of it so he wouldn't get cold, put reflective tape on the sweater, and replaced the sword with a glow stick. I kid you not.
I read books 1-6 when these moves came out, I preordered the 7th thru the scholastic book fair, and I got a week before it came out on in stores. Everyone treated it like a Marvel movie, my friends kept begging me not to spoil it for them
I was in Kindergarten when this movie came out and I had my own Rowley who was my best friend and cousin. He's a lot more of a normal person who can just go with the flow and I'm a ball of anxiety who just keeps to himself. I was a lot like Greg in Kindergarten where I wanted nothing more than to be adored by everyone and thought I deserved to be. I got humbled big time when I moved and started first grade at a new school where I was liked even less than I was in Kindergarten. I lived in total obscurity from then up until High School Graduation, but I know the friends I made were real friends. Life is better after school.
Since you mentioned middle school and Superbad in the same sentence. I hope and pray some rejects haven’t seen Good Boys. It’s also by Seth Rogen. It’s pretty much Superbad but middle schoolers 😂
I was in elementary school when the book & movie dropped. They made such a profound mark on my grade. When the book came out, I sorta remember the cheese touch thing being such a problem that teachers had to stop reading it or skip around the cheese touch parts during reading time. When the movie came out, kids were constantly tossing school cheeses on the playground sidewalk & A new cheese got placed everytime the old one got picked up. If I remember correctly, I think the book was also temporarily removed out of the school library at some schools & you had to be "mature enough" to check it out when it came back.

I remember the cheese touch in elementary school 💀😭 in high school someone threw a piece of cheese on a light fixture and it stayed up there the whole year and never molded, it’s probably still there 😂
Robert Capron (the kid who played Rowley) was unfortunately typecast as the “fat goofy best friend” for a while after DoaWK. He didn’t get many chances to explore other roles for a while, and apparently one of his auditions was just him eating a sandwich shirtless. He ended up getting really fit and ripped when he got older so he could audition for MCU Spider-Man, but didn’t get the part.
The sequel of this movie is one of those rare occasions where it’s better than the original. Rodrick rules is definitely a childhood favorite of mine. Amazing movie, and I hope you guys end up watching it!

i do wanna say that, yes, sometimes schools remove the stall doors in the boys bathrooms. i graduated hs about two years ago, but in my middle AND high school i know that stall doors were taken off the hinges in boys bathrooms on a lot of occasions. it'd usually be because of drug use in the stalls, but occasionally it'd be because a door was literally ripped off the hinges or something by students fucking around, and it'd just HAVE to be removed 💀💀. so, the stall doors in the boys bathroom being missing isn't abuse from the school or anything,, i think it's 100% just implying that there's a lot of troublemakers in the school (that like to hang out in the bathroom) :pp. it's why Rodrick tells greg not to go to the bathroom lmaoo
When i was a kid, i got the first book and the DVD of the movie and I was hooked on Greg's story for a good part of my childhood, i still watch the movies today LOL
i read the books in elementary school and they we’re actually so good 😭 book greg was very silly. one time he lost a doll but didn’t wanna tell his parents so he replaced it with a fruit but then he actually kinda grew to love the fruit but then ofc it rotted and started to stink and they took it away and he was really sad 😭

i do wanna say that, yes, sometimes schools remove the stall doors in the boys bathrooms. i graduated hs about two years ago, but in my middle AND high school i know that stall doors were taken off the hinges in boys bathrooms on a lot of occasions. it'd usually be because of drug use in the stalls, but occasionally it'd be because a door was literally ripped off the hinges or something by students fucking around, and it'd just HAVE to be removed 💀💀.
so, the stall doors in the boys bathroom being missing isn't abuse from the school or anything,, i think it's 100% just implying that there's a lot of troublemakers in the school (that like to hang out in the bathroom) :pp. it's why Rodrick tells greg not to go to the bathroom lmaoo

i read the books in elementary school and they we’re actually so good 😭 book greg was very silly. one time he lost a doll but didn’t wanna tell his parents so he replaced it with a fruit but then he actually kinda grew to love the fruit but then ofc it rotted and started to stink and they took it away and he was really sad 😭
