I think drummers really struggle with something guitar players got over years ago.
They are basically two different instruments like an acoustic guitar and an electric guitar. If you play electronic music it's so much harder to dial in the right sounds on an acoustic kit.
Ding !!!!! This !!!!! They are very similar instruments obviously but two different ones also. You never hear this conversation being had between pianist talking about a keyboard and a piano…never with guitarist….always drummers…🤦🏽♂️🙇🏽♂️ and yes I’m butt hurt 😞😂 I love my ekit more than anything. I wouldn’t trade it for an acoustic kit ever. I see strengths and weaknesses in both. Just let it be 🤷🏽♂️
I have watched bands play with e kits with acoustic shells in clubs not knowing it was an e kit until I got up close. Sounded like a very well mic’d and dialed in acoustic kit.
Did you see Ulysses Owens Jr. playing "jazz" on an e-kit on Drumeo recently? One of the greatest jazz drummers in the world, and it sounded terrible. Even he couldn't make jazz sound good on it. But they all pretended as though it was not a problem, which was awkward.

Totally agree, Edrums are great for apartment practice, I have a Roland td27 and barely play it, like at all. mostly friends will play on it lol. Edrums or pads are pretty good when you put it with a acoustic drum set, to get some crazy amount of sounds. But the advertisement on these Edrums saying that it feels the same is false advertisement, Real cymbals and drums have the best feel, sound warm and natural. And you're right about how easy it is to play fast or sound loud without hitting hard on Edrums. it's really a whole different instrument, Pretty mush like a Piano vs a keyboard, not the same feel even if you have weighted keys
Imagine if acoustic guitarists got just as bent out of shape over electric guitars 🙄
main thing i notice between acoustic and electric drummers is technique. most electric drummers have no idea how they need to deal with things like dynamics and power on an acoustic kit. its super easy to sound amazing on an ekit because you just hit the thing and it makes a sound. i know a drummer who only played ekits for the majority of his drumming life and after 3 years still struggles with things like rimshots and volume control between the cymbals and shells. sucks if youre playing metal and the cymbals are super loud but the snare is just a little boing because they never learnt how to actually play
I'm taking like 6 months of strictly ekit practice to a new acoustic kit and it is fs different. The positions and how hard you gotta hit everything is different, and weak hits don't even make a musical sound. They just go *squeaky toy.

This feels like acoustic vs electric guitars, and it’s silly. High end E-Kits are dope.
I play "real" drums for practice & shows, but electronic for recording. It's just way easier and cleaner to record that way. However, there are subtle dynamics that get missed for the sake of streamlining the process. I also have a buddy who does hybrid for live shows. It's a little extra work to mix live and triggered but he says it guarantees a killer kick and snare sound. With manufacturers charging crazy amounts for cymbals these days, I can see having 100s of cymbals available at the push of a button on electronic kits being attractive.
Didn't matter what he played at the Superbowl Halftime Show. From what I understand they won't let them play live in case of failure. Go back and watch the Chili Peppers halftime show. They might be feeding some of the live sound through the PA at the show, but I think they whole TV feed is canned. I've had a couple of E-kits over the years, but I am fortunate enough to be able to have spaces to play acoustic drums, so the E-kits always go away. :)
Get a real kit and then get the Evans sensors (I forget what they are called) if you want an e kit at a live gig

if you want it to be isolated, be prepared to spend a decent amount of money and time. the only real way to isolate is to build a room INSIDE a room, and then use something like glass/rockwool in between. You'd also need to pay attention to the door, or windows. doesnt matter how well isolated the rest of the room is if you have a super thin door. if you just want the room to sound good, thats what acoustic panels are for. they do aid in the amount of volume outside of the room but its negligible. those panels help with sound moving and bouncing in the room, so it'll sound good in the room. (those foam things also barely do shit, you'd need to get the ones that are made from glass/rockwool)
First buy the drums and a carpet and you'll see where it will go in your room......once you start then you'll be fine

I think the only reason Tech Death drummers don't use them is in favor of real cymbals, which is weird with the ekit

Guitarists already know this struggle. Your friends get a AxeFX and think we're in 2077 - real guitar amps are dead! Haha
Acoustic and Electronic are 2 different animals. IMO, one is not superior to the other. They are the future, why not embrace the technology? You can have the best of both worlds in the drummer toolbox.
