Thanks beautiful I did mine without putting it in the oven turned it upside down and let it dry it took about 2days to tint the glass it came out beautiful 👋👋❤️🦋🙏
I have done this also brushing the solution on the OUTSDE but you will get streaks, there's no way to get passed that. What I've seen on a UA-cam video is you mix the same solution and POUR IT ON the outside starting at the top and swirl it around letting it (gravity) slowly cover the jar top to bottom until it is all covered. You need to let it dry upright for a bit (on foil or wax paper) until you can handle it to be able to do the bottom. It uses quite a bit of mod podge but the effect is gorgeously smooth and shiny - NO BRUSH STREAKS. I used the same oven techniques. If you do it on the outside this way, you can put anything inside! :-) If you want to use it for a drinking glass, do not cover the rim of the glass or jar with the solution. (Of course, not dishwasher proof, wipe clean with cold/luke wet cloth or just wash the inside by hand) Also, I have made quite a few massive/ugly projects when I first started. I have found that submeging the item (plate/jar/vase etc) in a sink or container of hot water with dish soap (I used Dawn) allows all that stuff to just melt off, sometimes in only ten minutes you can just peel it off very easily. If not, a little more soak time and voila! brand new project. I hope this is helpful, enjoy your crafting. (I believe the you-tube demo I originally watched was about a Martha Stewart product called transparent paint for glass tinting) OK, I"m done now (sorry).
Thank you for the tip of what to do if I don't like the colour. I can soak and peel off. Im about to try with a clear glass lampshade I would like a tint of grey but not too grey. Thank you
Great video, thanks! I tinted 2 jars blue for a baby shower I'm hosting this weekend. Going to put yellow and white flowers inside. Just an environmental tip, though :) Instead of using a plastic cup to throw out, I used an old yogurt container that I washed while the jars were drying (so before the glue dried on the container). I keep the container in my craft box. If you still have the lid you can store ribbons or other craft supplies inside the container, until you need it again, and again, and again :)
I've attempted this a couple of times, but have yet to have one come out that I was "100% yay!" about. I love the idea of it tho, and will probably try again. I do like that the glue comes out tho, saves from having to toss out or recycle craft fails.
try using a solid food coloring and mix it in the jar...wont be throwing all that in the cup out...if doing more then 1 jar same color make sure u make a lot so u can let it drip into the next jar and have enough
Is it safe to put food in the jar after you stain it? I have a lot of Mason jar I use as an organizer in my counter and pantry. And I want'to stain it cobalt blue.
@@seekingtruthnwisdom5552 No..it would be toxic. The only way to use for food is if the paint is on the outside, there might be some diy's on youtube on how to do that.
@@CalieFaeryl Thank you. I experimented and staining it in the inside did not give me the color I desired. So, I will try again next month when I have the time.
Yes you can put liquid in the jar. The finish is not permanent only because it can be scraped off with a lot of effort and elbow grease. I'm sure the outside of the jar could be tinted as well, however I have not tried it!
***** for the outside of the jar Instead of pouring the colored mod podge on the outside you would paint it on with a brush, like a foam brush or a bristled brush would give it cool streaks, let it dry and spray it with a clear protectant finish.
Also there's mod podge dishwasher safe now, so probably going test it(with 2 variants, paint(acrilic mixed in mod podge dishwasher safe) and the food coloring)
Hi, Great for people like me who are new to mason decor. one question... I try this 3 times and each time I done the steps u mentioned, I keep getting ungly streaks. what can I do to avoid those ungly paint streaks? Thanks the great video... much needed.
I just watched your video & absolutely love this idea!!! I will definitely be doing this soon. I have a huge tree t he at I'd like to hang lots of tinted mason jars from for added lights around my bonfire pit area. Thanks for sharing!!

"there's a blue light in my best friends room" LOVE those, and so easy. I'm wondering if you could use Elmer's glue, or Tacky glue instead of Mod-Podge? Thanks for the fabulous vid!
Bettina Stepek Elmer's would probably work, but it is not really intended to be an outside layer, so I don't know how well it would last. I would stick with Mod-Podge.
Omg. We painted the OUTSIDE of jar and didn't put it in oven and it still turned out great. We then spray-painted it with an enamel coating to preserve. Is it necessary to put in oven?
kill1 I've never tried doing it on the outside, but when you cook it, all the brush marks are filled in and go away. if you try it, let us know how it turned out!
if you want a darker shade of blue you shouldve added brown to the blue to darken the shade... by adding the same shade of blue you just made it more pigmented
I'm going to make a lamp as well. sept its gonna be green, and it'll be on top and inside a broom, like a plastic broom, and it'll be stupid and beautiful.
Hello! I tried using your technique, but unfortunately I have lot of air bubbles I’m unable to get rid off. Once I baked in the oven, I could still remove the tint on the glass making it look a regular glass holder. Can you tell me where am I going wrong?
I have questions can I put things like sugar coffee like that in the kitchen? And can I put thing like a toothbrush in and make a soap dispenser. I love to make thing for my place and kind of show out and this would be a a good one that I know my friends and family would love and try to get from me. Lol my lil secrets they just don't do things like me
The glue is non-toxic but it is not rated for food. So that decision would be up to you. As far as storing your toothbrush or soap, I do not see a problem. The tint is not going to come off because it has been baked on.
Hi, I tried to do this with a wine bottle. I read the same method would work... It was clear when I took it out of the oven however and after sitting for a few minutes it became opaque again? Any suggestions for the next time I try?
I didn't see any comments about this, but I could have missed them. So, apologies in advance.... but I'm wanting to do this and use them as soap dispensers. Would the coloring affect the soap, or would the soap affect the coloring? I don't want to put time and money into this project if it wouldn't work out as a soap dispenser. Hopefully this makes sense, starting to feel as if I'm rambling! Haha. Thanks!
I was just wondering about that lol. I'm looking for ideas for diy Christmas gifts, and this would be great if I can put soap in it afterwards. Ill try it with a mini jar w/ soap first, then lotion... If it doesn't work then I can just color the outside ombre or frost the glass myself.
You don't have to cook it, but cooking at a low setting ensures the glue sets completely and it dries quicker. If you just set it out to dry, a lot of the glue is going to run off before it is dry enough to stick.
The glue is technically non-toxic (but not food grade) and you have heat sealed it, so it kind of depends on your comfort level. I would personally do it, but I know others who wouldn't and I understand. But I also drink from the hose, so maybe I'm too easy going. haha :)
I am doing this right now. Really I am, they are in the oven. I am worried that it is taking so long. I feel like it been well over an hour. I am hoping it comes ok.
Can you put liquids inside of the jar after you've tinted it? I only ask because you said that it isn't permanent. And also can you tint the outside? Thanks!
Do you have any tips to avoid dripping in the oven? At first I thought it was because I added water and did not let it sit before I put it in the oven, but even when changing my technique I still get dripping marks in the tint :(
The glue isn't food grade but it's also non-toxic. Personally I wouldn't have a problem drinking from it, but I also drink from a hose. 🤣🤣 Others would tell you no. So, up to you...
No way to say for sure because it depends on the glue thickness and brand. I would guess around 30 minutes, but you have to continually check. Can anyone else share how long it took?
Hi this is brilliant & ive certainly learnt something new! Can you tell me please-does the heat from your lamps not melt the glue? Can water be placed inside the jar with flowers or will the water turn the glue sticky? TIA:-)
Thanks for the tutorial! You mentioned that you can get the tint OFF with some work and elbow grease… could you explain? I need to remove the tint from some of the jars for a project I'm working on. Thanks!
You will need a scraper and probably a wire or heavy bristle brush. The coloring is in the glue and not actually infused in the glass, so you have to peel and scrape the glue off. It will be awkward inside the jar, but a good brush should do the truck.
I just found this video loved it. It loved reeeeal easy to do i just have a question. Can you put the color on the outside of the glass? And do more than one at a time then put it in the oven?

Set your oven temp at 200-250. Let it cook until the glue turns clear.
***** 250 farhenheit?
Yes. Fahrenheit
In the tute you said 175-200 F. I guess it depends on your oven!
cool that was a successful RUN
Did you mention what the temp of the oven was....& approximately how long is a few minutes for baking?
MOD MOD MOD. The syllable "modge" causes me to become crazed.

So I just did exactly this but with (plenty of) blue gel food coloring instead of liquid food coloring and I only got the slightest tint of blue. :/
Can i do this to use mason jars as glasses? If i did it on the outside instead of the inside?
Does it matter what type of glue? Wood glue... paper glue etc.
You want a glue that dries clear and will be of a good consistency to coat the jar.
For argument sakes, can you tint vehicle glasses like this?.
SO COOL! thanks :)
I used a TON of blue food dye and they just turned out a slight bluish-turquoise. Did a few different times too. :-(
